Heh, I ordered my MBA online. It'd be a waste of time, but if it's not Samsung, it's a return.

I wouldn't care much if Apple didn't kill Photofast's replacement SSD. Sure OWC also offers replacement, but they don't have any external enclosure for the module already in place (while Photofast did). Plus, Apple forced me to fork money on 256GB SSD (since you HAVE to get it if you want i7), so they better deliver a quality one!

I hate Apple so much; but what to do? There is no alternative really...

13"/i7/256 Ultimate

Display: LP133WP1-TJA3
APPLE SSD SM256C

I was much more concerned about the SSD than display. Works for me. I'm not even going to benchmark it. It feels super fast, and I'll stick with that.

Well... I took my 11" "Ultimate" in for an issue I thought they could fix at the genious bar. Instead of a quick in and out, they ended up having to swap my machine. I figured what the hell, I ran checked the specks on my new one and low and behold...

Sammy SSD AND Display.

My previous was a Samsung SSD and LG Display.

I really do not see the difference between the two displays to be honest- my 2010 11" Ultimate was an LG panel, and it does not seem any different?

You, sir, are deluded. This is what my doctor calls a "reality distortion field." I would change your dose to the sweet Jazz or Pink Lady varieties, I did and have never looked back from a viewing angle that I'd never use in the first place.

I got lucky!

Samsung double-double on an exchange.
First time I got the double dinger: toshiba ssd and lg display.

I can't tell about the SSD speed difference. I do believe that the Samsung display is better. It's got lower black levels and higher peak brightness. The colors also pop a bit more. I have had both the LG and Samsung next to each other. Viewing angles on the Samsung also appear better. The LG wins with more truer whites, however. These are indisputable facts no matter how you feel. Calibration makes screens look different but doesn't change inherent deficiencies in a screen (my experience, not based on fact). Overall, I prefer the Samsung screen.

THAT said, however, the reason I exchanged was as I had written about, a moire/high frequency visible oscillations problem that was more obvious on certain images and while playing videos when I had the LG screen. I have seen this debacle pop up on the second generation air. Whether this issue is specific to LG screens or not, I don't know. But the Samsung replacement I got doesn't exhibit this problem. I know this wasn't in my head b/c I had the LG and Samsung next to each other and could clearly see this issue. Had the LG screen not exhibited this problem, I would not have exchanged. So for those who do not have any issues with the LG screen, it's not worth exchanging, in my opinion. The difference is within spec and I would not feel like you've been cheated. THAT said, though, if someone said, which combo of SSD and Display do you want, sir? I would chose the Samsung Samsung. Of course, now some are saying that the Toshiba drive is faster in everyday life (go figure).

Is there a link you could post for example?

Went into the Cardiff store today, checked each of the 6 13" MBAs and they all had the Samsung SSD. Following that logic I was hoping to get the Samsung SSD.

SSD = TS128C
LCD = LTH133BT01A03

i.e. Toshiba SSD, Samsung LCD

Little bit annoyed but I'm happy I got the Samsung screen. I won't be going back and returning it to try for the Samsung SSD, this is primarily my word proc/movie/browsing machine so I'd prefer the nice screen if anything.

I think for the more savvy of us who really want the Samsung SSD Apple should have a provision to allow us to pick. They are basically opening themselves open to potentially multiple returns for people trying to get the desired hardware. I'm sure 95% of people don't care, hence the reason they don't bother.

Lovely machine though, very happy.

Oh, no I don't. But if you do not see it, then do not worry about it. I think that it's the same thing with the macbook airs wavy lines in the past--some saw it, some did not. For some reason, I noticed this within 2 days of using it without looking for any problems. No one else has noticed this, so it could well just be a defective inverter that I got.

Well this is my first mac so I guess I dont know personally the difference between the screens and the ssd's - however the general consensus seems to be that samsung is the better of both so I am pleased that my new 11" i5 is both ssd/display Samsung.

SSD = SM128c

Dislpay = LTH116AT01A04

My 11" Ultimate

2011 MBA 11" i7 256GB

SSD - SM256C
Display - LTH116AT01A04

If I've been following the forums correctly those are both Samsung right? And that's apparently better? (Although, I wonder how much difference there really is.)

Cheers,

Yes, those are both presumed to be Samsung parts.
