Looks like Samsung SSD / LG Display. Dammed if this isn't the nicest laptop display I've ever seen, so I'm pretty happy with it :)

4 out of 4 in Modesto, CA Apple Store for MacBook Air 11 are SM128... Damn.. All the machines are Samsung SSD.. I don't care about the display :D

I have a 13" Ultimate:

Display = LP133WP1-TPA1
SSD = APPLE SSD TS256C

Note: Please note this is a 2010 model, I should read a bit closer next time. Apologies.

About SSD's - i think new shipments should have more Samsung drives and so on, till the Toshiba one's are gone? :confused:

What do you think?

11.6" i7 MBA - 4GB/256GB

Samsung SSD (SC256)
LG Display (LP116WH4-TJA3)

bought in Fairview Apple Store.

Surprisingly my LG display does not exhibit the washed out colours@100% brightness that I saw in the other LG display on 11.6" MBA in the Apple Store.

So mine is a good LG display with great blacks but I have to admit the vertical viewing angle is not that great. Not sure if the Samsung one is better?

Bought it from best buy. It was second shipment.

Got both Samsung SSD and Samsung display.

Seriously, I do not care about samsung or LG display because I cannot tell the difference. But, if I would have gotten Toshiba SSD, then I will not hesitate to return.

This is not because I am being picky. This is because I want to be treated, equally like anyone else. We are all paying same amount of money for a laptop, so why should someone get a faster air and some should not?

Freaking stupid move by apple.

I'm a bit annoyed that I do have the Toshiba SSD in my base 13".

I've felt that it was odd when doing Time Machine backups that the system is almost unusable and when I checked Activity Monitor it was the disk being pegged, which I found extra odd considering it's supposed to be this blazing fast SSD.

I hate to go through the hassle of doing a return/exchange for something like this but feel like it's warranted, at least on paper. In Anand's review on Anandtech the numbers are very clearly different between the two SSD's.

I'm not so much worried about the LCD however.

Have others already returned their 13" based that had a Toshiba SSD and had any luck getting a new one with the Samsung SSD?

Did the store give you a hard time?

The numbers may be different but the Toshiba SSD is fast in it's right. The fact that it's marginally slower than the newer Samsung has nothing to do with your 'unusable' system during Time Machine backups.

I realize that is likely the case but now can't help but wonder.

I wish I could put them side by side.

Does anyone have anything showing side by side real world impact from the different SSD's?

If it's negligible and not noticeable by anything other than a benchmark (can't be felt) then it's not worth returning.
