Props to John Lester for shutting down the Phils potent offense for seven innings:rolleyes: And screw the Phillies middle relievers for not shutting down the Red Sox lineup:rolleyes:

Peace

I wonder how long the Mets can ride the magical pumpkin. They are really in a tough spot. They want to trade Reyes but can't because they are winning.

If the Mets' upper-management does the right thing, they'll trade him. Unless we're seriously looking at the potential for a WS win, we need to concentrate on what moves will get us there in a few years' time.

I'd much rather see Reyes, Beltran, and even K-Rod go elsewhere, and have us get some great help in a few years, than to have them stay on the team and keep saying things like, "Well we have the potential to win a lot..."

Also, Verlander's WHIP is disgusting. Totally off-topic, but true.

I agree. But it's a horrible shame that they have to do it. A team playing in NY shouldn't be in a position where they have to trade their best player to set themselves up for the future. They should be building a team around him, not building a team by trading him away. But with the issues they are having, they are in a no win situation.

I just hope that they get as much for him as they can and put themselves in a place where they can seriously contend with the Phillies. I'm a Yankees fan, but the summers are always more exciting when both teams are in pennant races.

*and off topic, but a shout out to Huntington...my home town. Go Blue Devils!

All star game should be fun to watch this year. Three of my brewers made position starters brauny, prince and weeks. It'll be the NL all stars against... The yankees apparently

Although jeter certainly doesnt deserve to start, CC does deserve to be there but got shafted. Also texiera. And 4 giants pitchers? Thoughts?

CC would be pitching Sunday, so he wouldn't be able to pitch. David Robertson got robbed though. Out of any Yankees pitcher not named Mariano Rivera, Robertson was the most deserving. I would rather have seen Robertson go than Martin if the number of Yankees already on the team got in the way.....

CC should be there, but I won't spend too much time worrying about it, the same argument for him not being there this year was used last year by Girardi to keep Felix Hernandez out (last year's Cy Young, who had also just gotten done whipping the Yankees shortly before the decision was made).

Rather surprised that Michael Pineda didn't make it (he's all but a lock for the AL ROY right now), but given that Felix can't pitch (scheduling), I wouldn't be shocked to see him subbed in. (That said, a sub-.500 team having 3+ players on the all-star team is unlikely, especially as they'd all be pitchers). If life were fair, though, I'd argue that Felix, League (both named to team), and Pineda should make it. Then again remember how thrilled the national media wasn't when 8 Mariners started back in '01?--and that's when they were running away with the AL :p

Jeter being in it removes any credibility the ASG has, though. Absolute trash that a popularity contest should decide who plays in a game that actually means something. If people want the ASG to be a popularity contest, fine, I'm not thrilled, but no biggie--but by no means should it then have any impact on the season/playoffs.

(And yes, I know my Mariners bias is showing)

Hopefully the NL wins the All-Star game so my boyz get home field advantage for the WS:rolleyes::cool:
Peace

Well with Jeter 6 hits away coming back from the DL tonight, if he gets one hit per game, he'll get 3000 this Saturday which I am planning to buy tickets to go see. This is going to be close.

Not a Yankees fan, but congrats to Jeter on his 3,000th hit, a home run

That said, how 'bout them Braves ;)

HEh macdawg! I was wondering where you were hiding from this thread :p hopefully your braves can take over the phils. Id love to see robo eat crow again haha! :p :p. (i love picking on him)

Thank god he finally did it. I was getting sick of hearing about it all day and all night for the last several weeks.

"Do you think that he will go 7 for 7 and get it tonight?"
"Only 5 more hits..."
The he was hurt and not playing...a few more days ti hear about it....
Then of course last night's game was rained out...so we had to hear about it one more night...

Just glad he got this **** out of the way before the All-Star break so we can go into the second half without this story...

I am more interested in Thome and the 600 HR club (which is far more exclusive than the 3,000 hit club).

Wow. Bitter much? I guess now they can go back to talking about the "greatest pitching staff in the history of the universe" on a daily basis.

I think this is a celebration of his career. 5 World Championships, all-star games, gold gloves, clutch hits, etc.. Not to mention he's the first Yankee to achieve this. When you're the only Yankee to achieve anything, it's kind of a big deal.

And yes, some would say the 600 HR club is more exclusive because there are less members. But that list may be marred a bit with Sammy Sosa on it and Barry Bonds at the top of it. Either way, I believe it's been tainted enough that 600 isn't an automatic entrance into the Hall. One of the 2 guys is a definite. And it aint Jim Thome.

The guy is a winner and has been a class act for a decade and a half. And going 5-5 with a game winning RBI in the game is just icing on the cake. Even if you hate the Yankees, you have to give the guy his due.

So Dan Uggla is batting .186 but leads the Braves in HRs with 15 now

Wonder how many times a sub-.200 hitter has led his team in HRs

I don't have any stats in front of me, but the only player that comes to mind would be Dave Kingman. I know he hit a ton of home runs and struck out a lot, but I'm not sure what else he did.

I freaking wish I could say this was his 3000th hit as I had perfect timing with this picture. Sadly, it was a foul ball. :(

This was Jeter's home run that got him 3000. Sadly, my timing was a little off compared to the pic above.

OMG was NYS exploding once he hit that and went over the fence. The stadium would not stop chanting, " DEREK JETER!!!" for like 5 minutes.

Jeter hitting his 3,000 with a home run is fitting for the drama and big moments that have followed his career. Only the second man to hit 3,000 with a homer and the only Yankee to do it. The only think missing today was Jeter getting the Cycle.

Unlike some players that you route against I think everyone likes the way Jeter plays the game and goes about carrying himself. He never makes the game about him.

Jeter is also the second person to go 5 for 5 in the game he hit 3000.

I think he ate enough crow for a while after my boys swept his flyers out of the stanley cup playoffs :D

Well the bold part kind of goes out the window considering Pete Rose is the all time hits leader...

Who was the first?

Congrats to Derek Jeter. It's an incredible accomplishment for a true professional. I met him once and teased him a bit (well I am a Red Sox fan), and he had an excellent sense of humor and was all class. Plus he wins points for being a fellow member of the mixed mafia.

That said, go Sox! Nice to see Lackey turn in a great performance tonight.

Can't wait to see what happens at the trade deadline.
