Dude
I'm not saying he had to play, but just show up... After all he is the poster child for MLB:rolleyes:

It's a damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. If he shows up to the ASG to celebrate 3000, people would say how much of a jerk he is for putting 3000 above the ASG itself, etc instead of saying how he is a jerk for not showing up.

No matter what he chose to do, people would be complaining. I mean there is one person on a baseball forum I go on saying the guy who caught the ball was an idiot for giving it to Jeter and not selling it for the true value of that ball. You can't please everyone.

I read that there are 17 players who are not going to the All Star Game. Should they be required to appear even if they won't play?

No.

It's the all star game. nobody gives a **** about it anyways.

So other than having to endure joe buck, I'm actually kinda enjoying this game. Highlights:

1. Prince becomes first brewer to hit an asg home run
2. Justin timberlake giving joe buck crap for being a monotone drone d-bag that sounds like he doesnt enjoy his job that anyone else would kill for

Dont know whats worse, monotone buck or giggly teenage girl espn announcers

Joe Buck would be nothing if it wasn't for his father, Jack, who was one of the greatest of all time. He has no talent. He is the true definition of nepotism.

Joe Buck is at his worst when calling Cardinals games. He tries so hard to hide any hometown bias towards the Cardinals, that he's even worse. When the Cardinals got the final out to win the World Series in 2006, he was even more mono-tone than he is now, if that's even possible. It's like he can't even pretend to show any excitement about his hometown team - the team his dad called games for nearly 50 years and the team that is likely the reason he has a job.

And the restaurant he owns in St. Louis sucks.

Milwaukee trades for krod to bolster very inconsistent bullpen. Thoughts?

The starters also need to get back to consistency. Greinke and markum have had a few bad starts during this recent slump. If they can get back to the way they were playing in late may early june they shoukd be able to still take the division

Have to agree. Jack, even though he was kinda hokey was far better than his son. Joe tries way too hard, or the FOX broadcast team puts him up to it. And Tim McCarver, it's time for you to retire already. You bring nothing interesting to the game as analyst. This has been happening for what? The last 20 years?

I did however like Costas and Michaels when they came over to do a couple of innings last week on Comcast Bay Area. They would make a far better national broadcast them than Buck/McCarver.

Buck/McCarver is the absolute worst - I cringe whenever I'm forced to watch a game that they're announcing. If they get the postseason again, I say we riot. Even that d0uchelord Justin Timberlake took a shot at him during the broadcast.

Considering how erratic their relief pitching has been, and also that they gave up no talent to get him, I'd say it was a good deal for them. K-Rod has been pretty good this year. Not spectacular, but good. He'll help them.

Hopefully we dont have to watch estrada pitch another 4 run relief inning this season now

Joe Buck has been riding his dads coattails for his entire career. He never had any talent, and never will. That guy is a ****ing hack of a sportscaster. And his partners (McCarver for MLB and Aikman for NFL) are just as bad, if not worse.

Mistrial in the scum of the earth Clemans trial.

A lot of screw ups happening in high profile cases. First Casey Anthony's case and now Clemens.... Do we have any competent prosecutors left????

Anyone buying that the mets wont be shopping reyes because hes playing too well? I call bulllllllllllshiiiiiiiiiiit. Id love to see him in milwaukee the only upgrade i see the brewers needing right now is at shortstop to win the division.

The Mets know they are going to choke in about a month and a half, so they might as well sell now.

And if Reyes is playing really well now, wouldn't it just mean a better return for them? Seems like when he his playing his best is the best time to trade him.

One of the hack Boston writers wrote an article saying the Sox "need" Reyes. I don't think that's true, but if they somehow managed to get him, how scary would that lineup be?

Ellsbury - Pedroia - Gonzalez - Youk - Ortiz - Crawford - Reyes - Reddick - Salty/Tek

That is insane to even think about.

My boyz get their 61th win today against the Cubbies:cool: Vance Worly was pretty much lights out ;) And remember that name:rolleyes: Now all we need is a right-handed bat that can hit for power:p:D;)

Forget a month and a half, theres no way theyre catching atl and phi, they might as well get what they can now. I think its a bluff to try to get teams to deal the world for him. They know they dropped the ball on the krod trade, basically getting NOTHing for him, so theyre gonna try to make it up with reyes

If they trade Reyes, that ballpark will be an absolute ghost town. If I were a Mets fan, I'd riot, straight up. There's no excuse for the continued incompetence in running the Mets. They're in a huge market (even sharing it with the gluttonous Yankees) and they've been pretty much an embarrassment since they lost the WS in 2000.

I think the market for Beltran is hot enough that they keep Reyes.

On to my team - I'd take Beltran if he were cheap enough, considering he's a rental, but we don't need offense. Sure, he'd be great to have for when (if) Reddick comes back to Earth, since JD Drew is officially a cadaver. But I'd give anything for a healthy pitching staff. Our own guys are better than the garbage that's available.

Sox don't need Beltran.

91 Games: .293/.389/.523/.911 14HR 59RBI
.318 BABIP .88 BB/K

28 Games: .367/.418/.671/1.088 4HR 18RBI
.397 BABIP .60 BB/K [Over 91 games at this pace: 13HR 58.5RBI]

Reddick's average is a little inflated still, and will come down because of the .397 BABIP. But his HRs and RBIs are exactly where Beltran is. The cost of Beltran just isn't worth it. Reddick is a legitimate starter, there's really no place for Beltran in this lineup now.

Uhm, zioxide, did you miss this sentence in my post:

I am well aware of the great job Reddick has been doing. I do think he will come back to earth at some point (and he had been, until his hot last couple of games). I'd take Beltran if he were cheap, why not? You wouldn't? But he won't be cheap, so I'll pass. Hopefully Reddick can keep it going, but I'm skeptical that years of scouting and projections were just totally wrong. I also think the small sample size of Reddick's does not mean he is Beltran. He's done it for significantly less games, saying Reddick = Beltran for the season is a huge stretch from a relatively tiny sample size. I could extrapolate Albert Pujols from lots of AAAA types if I pick the right games. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled he's been so good for us, particularly when we needed it because of Drew, but I'm not quite ready to call him as good as Beltran.

Usually I'm clamoring for the Sox to do something, but this season there aren't any really intriguing names. Our guys are better than what's out there, if they can just get/stay healthy. I admit I'm worried about Buchholz, but I can't think of anyone on the block I'd break the bank for.

I saw it.. I just don't think we need him at all. Unless he's cheap enough that it's only a case of Fenway Franks, I don't see the point. He's old and would cost too much in prospects.

He's not Beltran obviously, but he is producing just as good at the moment, and he doesn't cost anything. We have Kalish in Pawtucket too who looks like he'll end up being trade bait (he's there if Reddick gets hurt or something), because there is just no room for him in the lineup in the next 5 years. Crawford (LF), Ellsbury (CF), and Reddick (RF) are going to be the starters for the next few years.

They're in first and the team is stacked. If Buchholz can be healthy in time for October, Beckett-Lester-Buchholz is a formidable playoff rotation. The biggest need is probably another arm for the bullpen (**** Aceves). But if they could go and get Ubaldo... damn, that rotation would be better than Philly's.

Beltran flew with the Giants to the all star game. I suppose they didn't like what they saw, therefore he won't be going there.

I want to see how Reddick finishes the season before giving him the starting RF job. He's in the midst of an incredibly hot streak, aided by a super lucky BABIP. I want to see him make adjustments when things are going bad.

But if they could go and get Ubaldo... damn, that rotation would be better than Philly's.

Jimenez is going to cost a fortune - not only does he have great stuff, he has a fantastic contract. When he's on, he's incredible, but he hasn't been consistent enough for me to give up the farm for, and it's going to take a lot to get him.

Oh yeah he will be costly. It is stated that if they were going to trade Jimenez to the Yankees, they would want Jesus Montero, Dellin Betances, Manny Banuelos, and Ivan Nova. Does the Red Sox farm system still have that kind of depth to trade away after the A-Gone deal?

And if I were the Yankees, that is way too many of our top prospects to give up for Jimenez.
