Beltran flew with the Giants to the all star game. I suppose they didn't like what they saw, therefore he won't be going there.

That, or the Giants don't want to pay what the Mets are asking.

Personally, I think the Giants should try to get Reyes as he addresses a much more glaring weakness in the Giants' roster, but the Mets will want even more for him. I don't think Brian Sabean will be willing to give up a Jonathan Sanchez, Brandon Belt or Zack Wheeler for a rental.

And anyway, the Giants did trade for Jeff Keppinger yesterday, which should be a sufficient reinforcement for their infield. Hope the old "great pitching and just enough offense" strategy works as well as it did last season...

Beltran to Atlanta! Apparently the Braves would have to give up Teheran and that's not going to happen. My question: anyone know why? Is Teheran really that good? Atlanta has plenty of pitching...well, compared to most teams.

ROOKIE Vance Worly was filthy against the Giants last night;) Pitching a three hit complete game:D Linceium vs Hamels tonight.Should be a good one.

rickie weeks is out with a pretty bad looking ankle injury :( I'm tempted to say the crew should trade prince, even though currently in first place, to replenish a ravaged farm system. he wont be resigning with them next year so get some infield help now and some top prospects for him.

beltran to the giants makes them a very dangerous squad. look out philly

who? the brewers wont trade prince for just one player. a team would have to send over a mini squad with some big names

the pirates will fold, but without weeks the crew is in trouble

The problem is, what team would send over a mini-squad to rent a player for 2 months? The only way they would get any high level prospects/major league talent is if the team was certain he would sign with them. If you really don't think you can re-sign him, it's a situation where you either take anything you can get or keep him and get nothing for him.

So the Giants got Beltran after all. Smart move for two reasons: obviously because the Giants really need to improve their offense, and because their main rivals for the NL pennant, the Phillies and Braves, were also quite interested in acquiring him. With Beltran and Keppinger now in the lineup, the Giants' offense should be significantly strengthened.

Zack Wheeler is a steep but fair price to pay. I don't think he's a prospect who's going to end up being a Lincecum, Cain, or Bumgarner starter, but I can see him making it in the bigs. Or maybe he'll do the Vogelsong and come back to us in a few years and tear up the league. :D

pence just pulled from game against milwaukee. traded to phillies.

the phillies are the yankees of the national league. I can't WAIT until they fold in the playoffs

Is that your prediction for the WS?:D:p:cool:

You said that about the Flyers too ;) :D

We still have that broom ready in the closet if we need it...

Dude
Don't know if you remember but I did pick your boyz in seven and I think I even got the score right in the 7th game.;) Will still got a long way to go.;):D

Except I can't recall the Yankees petulantly ripping their competitors, unlike Charlie Manuel's sour grape comments about Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain the other day after they beat the Phillies with less than their best stuff.

This is something interesting I thought of.

Last night, Pence was pulled out in the middle of the game when he was traded. Tonight, it was Jimenez.

Hypothetically speaking, if the Astros were playing the Phillies last night, or the Rockies were playing the Indians tonight, could the player switch teams in the middle of the game when the trade goes through. Could Pence have started last night with the Astros, and after the deal went through, during the game, switch and go play for the Phillies (assuming the Phils were able to have a uniform with his name and number ready by then). Is such a thing allowed? Has it ever happened?

Edit: Nevermind, forgot that rosters can't be changed in the middle of a game. Did find 2 instances where a player was traded to the opposing team between 2 games of a double header though.

I think it has happened where a player has been traded between teams during a series. I don't think they can play the same game though.
