It is amazing that the Yankees and Red Sox flipped on management styles. While Cashman didn't make the huge off season moves and instead brought in small pieces and relied on the farm team, while Theo went all out to top the Yankees and grab the big pieces that were going to steam roll them to a championship.

I haven't seen a more exciting final day of the regular season in quite some time. At least my "out on a limb" prediction back in April of the Rays making the playoffs came true.

Bring on the playoffs.

Agreed. Can't believe the total collapse by both the Red Sox and the Braves.

Yup. Exactly the opposite of like the 2002-2007 period. Cashman learned from Theo. But Theo didn't learn from Cashman.

time for some big changes in Boston.. both on the field and off of it.

Reports are that the Red Sox will not pick up the option on Francona.

Not a huge surprise. I wonder what they'll do with Theo...The Crawford signing was awful, as was the Lackey signing. And the moves he made during the season...most prominently Bedard did absolutely nothing for the team. How much more rope are they going to give him?

If they do get rid of Francona, it's a huge overreaction. Not the managers fault for injuries, how the players played, and just some bad luck.

I am sure he would have loved to remove Lackey and Wake from the rotation, but they had no other starter to replace them.

I think Tito will be let go, but I actually think Tito might not have wanted to come back anyway. The press conference yesterday with he and Theo strongly hinted at clubhouse issues this year, supposedly with players not having each other's backs, etc. It sounded from his voice that he'd had enough, and honestly, it sounded like that before this season even started. He also has health issues which the stress related to managing the Boston Red Sox doesn't exactly help.

I've always liked Tito, I have a mixed reaction at this point. But I do think sometimes change is necessary. I guess we'll find out more as events unfold.

And Tito is out. Now that it's true, I'm not sure I like this move at all. I don't know who they're going to find that's better than him.

With a high payroll and high expectations, somebody has to take the fall
Right or wrong, it usually it isn't the highly paid players
I am sure there is plenty of blame to share
But doing nothing or nothing swift and tangible was not an option

Crawford. Lackey. Jenks. Bedard. Cameron. Lugo. Renteria. Drew. Gagne. the list could go on forever. Other than Papi, you can't name a single good big name free agent that Theo brought in. A couple good trades (schill, gonzo) but he can't sign a free agent to save his life.

If they don't get rid of Theo, this town is going to turn on them fast.

^ just a pathetic team. they were cocky and thought they had everything locked up. then they just gave up, didn't fight til the end. they should have watched the bruins this past spring... now there's a team that had everyone's backs, and was resilient, fought through diversity, and look where it took them...

And Tito is out. Now that it's true, I'm not sure I like this move at all. I don't know who they're going to find that's better than him.

Nobody is gonna be better than him. The front office ****ed this team over big time. Tito didn't want to be there anymore. Saying this team had **** chemistry and that they didn't have a good clubhouse.

What a pathetic ****ing team. This team is an embarrassment to the city of Boston. They lost the attitude they had when they actually won, and became a bunch of smug entitled *******s.

There's a perfect storm brewing in Boston... the Sox are imploding and it looks like there will be no basketball. If the Pats lose again bad in the next week or too, black and gold is going to take this town over.

Logically, I understand the move. Sometimes after 8 years, you have to make a change - especially with an epic collapse. And it sounded like Tito wanted out, anyway. But it's still hard to imagine who will replace him. The next Red Sox manager is going to have a staggering amount of work ahead of him.

And I really am far, far, FAR more critical of Theo Epstein lately than Terry Francona.

Anyway - back to teams that are still playing - which is not us. :(

Loose your last 5 straight games to end the season with everything on the line and you don't deserve to be in the playoffs

Bravos have a lot of off season work to do
They have a lot of young talent, but...

Injuries to Hanson and Jurjens hurt them
Injury to McCann, never the same
Heyward's lack of development
Lowe's train wreck season (and we are on the hook for next year too)
Uggla's first half disappearance
No clutch hitting with RISP

Braves were limping to the finish line with injuries and meltdowns and collapsed just short

On the bright side, it saves us from enduring a sweep in the first round

sorry i haven't been around a while, but i think injuries and expectations were the main reasons why the braves aren't taking as much heat as the red sox for their collapse, even though ours was almost as bad in terms of games lost. we looked dead the last few games and we had no heart at all, and i think we would have been swept in round one.

btw, i wasn't happy one bit about the braves losing this huge lead, and for some reason, i knew something was wrong when that lead was getting down to 5 games or so, and told the braves to stop their mets impersonations.

No joke.

How ironic is it that the 2 teams who choked away big leads both had blown saves in the 9th? Absolutely unbelievable.

How is that ironic? Wouldn't that be more expected?

There are the rumors of clubhouse issues this year. But I agree, it's not Francona's fault that Crawford laid an egg and Lackey is the worst Boston starter in Red Sox history. That's tough to overcome.

MLB dropped the ball on this one tonight, both aces throw 20 something pitches and now the game might get called. Tomorrows forecast isn't much better.

I am waiting for the NYY and see where they are. Like many, I expect them to meet Philly in WS. I wonder if the weather will stay bad and throw off the Yanks.

There is so much pressure on the top dogs that I expect one of them to fold en route to WS. I would like to see Texas go all the way (on a year that SF isn't in it, of course).
