Yep, same here, so I guess the extra Shanghai scan did end up just being a weird glitch.

Mine was on that flight, too. I didn't have the extra Shanghai glitch.

I guess a Tuesday delivery to PA (one day earlier than promised) is out of the question at this point.

Wonder how many Foxcon workers committed suicide trying to get these shipped out? Just wish they would hurry. ;). JK

Maxed out i7 (except RAM)

What do you think?

Awesome pics, looks good.

Maybe a dumb question, but is it better to install the extra RAM before first boot? I would think you would want to start it up first and make sure that there were no problems with the computer before installing aftermarket memory. I could be way off though, it's been seven years since I bought my last computer.

This is a good question. I got my 27" i7 SSD iMac today and the first thing I did was pull the stock memory and replace it with 4x4GB G.Skill RAM. Plugged it in, turned it on, and I got three beeps that repeated over and over with no display. I figured it was the memory, so I pulled it, sprayed some canned air in the memory sockets, reseated the G.Skill memory, and this time it fired up without any issues. :)

When I read reviews on newegg for the different memory I saw that a lot. Usually when they replaced all sticks to get to 16GB they could get memory errors, programs running unstable and crashing. Changing the memory to different slots helped some but never confirmed what was causing the crash. Everyone that stayed with the stock 4GB plus 8GB seemed to be fine so that's what I went with, I also used Mushkin and not G.skill.

I will be loading FCP, VBox and a couple other programs so I will be able to test the stability my extra 8GB of memory soon, but as of yet, I haven't used past the stock 4GB.

I have an idea for handling this kind of tracking in the future. There's a domain hopefully expiring on the 16th of July. Going to see if I can pick it up.

Quick Tip

Those of you like me and need to transfer 5000+ songs from another Mac in your house to this iMac... Don't use home sharing to do so. Started it and it was taking 3-5 seconds a song. Both my MBP and iMac are on Wireless G so maybe running both through a cable might have been faster. Quick math suggests that it would take around 250 hours to copy over that many songs. I will be using target mode and a firewire 800 cable to accomplish this feat.

Oh and don't forget to change your iTunes library to the HDD or you've just wasted a bunch of time and needless writes to you SSD.

For 5000 songs, 3-5 seconds per song = 15000 - 25000 seconds, or 4h10m to 6 h56m. Not 250 hours. That would be if it took 3 minutes per song.

Though yes, if you use FW800, it should take considerably less time.

So Frustrated

After an anxious weekend thinking my Imac would be grounded on the mainland thanks to Chilean volcanic ash, I got the delivery SMS this morning. I had to take my son to the doctor - was out of the house just under 2 hours. I tried ringing TNT to explain but they were no help. Of course when I got home there was the missed delivery card. Now I have to wait until tomorrow to get it. So frustrating to know my iMac is here driving around on a truck somewhere in the city for a whole 24 hours and there is nothing I can do.

Thanks. I'm going to wait to install my extra ram until after first boot up then. Dont wanna risk anything.

Back on topic though. It's Prepared for Shipment!!! Ordered on May 13th. Shipping is still June 27, but I'm sure that will change soon. :D
