For 5000 songs, 3-5 seconds per song = 15000 - 25000 seconds, or 4h10m to 6 h56m. Not 250 hours. That would be if it took 3 minutes per song.

Though yes, if you use FW800, it should take considerably less time.

Ahh yes, skipped the conversion to seconds instead of minutes. Good call. 1 too many Belgian beers to celebrate my new iMac tonight. 9% beer creeps up on ya fast. :)

Should be another 2 or so hours before iMacs are picked up for shipping. Typically happens between noon and 2PM local time in China. My guess is my iMac will show up on Wednesday.

How do you do this from a Time Machine backup restore?

I can't answer this with any certainty whatsoever, but I would assume if you change your iTunes library in iTunes preferences to the HDD (ie. I made the folders iTune/iTunes Media/ on my HDD) then when Time Machine restores your music it would put it into your new iTunes library. Like I said that's all assumption as I've never tried that before.

Given that time machine works at the filesystem level I'd be quite surprised if it did that instead of restoring things to their original filesystem location.

I'm disappointed with the lack of pictures people are posting. We know you all have smart phones, so stop being lazy and send us some eye candy!

I'm looking at pulling the trigger and ordering, now that you guys are getting shipment notices.

Here's a question -- do you think it's possible to get away with JUST the SSD and no internal hard drive? I'd prefer to do away with the hard drive noise if I can.

I store all my media on a NAS, so I would only need storage for apps.... but I want to play PC games under bootcamp, and I'm not sure how much space games typically require (haven't gamed in years, on account of not having a good enough machine) and I do some sound/music stuff, so I'd need space for sample libraries and recorded audio files.

What do you think, is 256gb too tight for all that? (obviously I could add a thunderbolt drive later for more space, but if I'm going to end up needing more space anyway, I might as well get an internal 1 or 2TB drive from the outset).

& does anyone know if there's any significant noise difference between the 1TB and 2TB drives?

...and recorded audio files.

You were probably just barely OK up to this point.

If you're recording stuff you'll need something bigger; uncompressed audio files are huge and you'll have many of them from various takes and such. Even if you were ok with moving "old" projects off to an external somewhere and only having one or two active projects, with all the other stuff you want to do (particularly bootcamp + games; a single game install can easily be 15+GB so you'll need a fairly big chunk for bootcamp) I think you'd be close to full often enough that you'd want the extra space.

Thanks. I'm going to wait to install my extra ram until after first boot up then. Dont wanna risk anything.

Back on topic though. It's Prepared for Shipment!!! Ordered on May 13th. Shipping is still June 27, but I'm sure that will change soon. :D

Actually, I wouldn't hesitate to install the new RAM before your first boot. Just make sure you seat it properly (that's almost assuredly what my problem was).

What do you want pictures of?
Nothing really new about these new iMac's but speed, and speed is hard to photograph :D

I can't speak for the other guy but you can picture everything: the empty box, your happy face whatever! I'm also sure you get lots of  if you capture the speed. ;)

It looks like mine is arriving today! People in the UK who aren't getting any tracking information may be interested to know that I ordered on May 3rd and it was shipped on June 9th. Since then the Shipment Status has been saying delivery on June 18th local time and 17th British Time, so I was expecting it by Friday.

Up until yesterday it was saying "In transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule", but with no tracking information. It then changed last night to "Transferring to Carrier" (or something like that), but still with no tracking info, so I still didn't even know what country it was in. I hoped it was in the UK but was worried by some of the "tour of the world" routes that others have seen.

But this morning it has changed to "Shipment Dispatched", with a UPS tracking number that shows that it travelled from Tamworth to my local UPS depot overnight, and so I should probably get it today!

Sorry to go into great detail but I figured it may be of interest to people who are a day or so behind me - your order can appear unexpectedly soon!

The last entry meaning: "Out for delivery". :)

Based on my "Departed FedEx location" time, looks like my iMac's on this flight, which is direct to Oakland, so it may be delivered Tuesday after all!

That flight landed an hour ago and still no mention of Oakland on my tracking page. Not sure how long it normally takes after a flight lands to get a status update, but weirdly, maybe half an hour before it landed, I got an "Arrived at FedEx location" update for Memphis. Unless they brought the Concorde out of retirement I'm pretty sure they couldn't have made it from Anchorage to Memphis in that time, so one of the updates is wrong, and there's no flight that I could find arriving in Memphis from Anchorage anywhere close to that time. So I'm guessing the Memphis update was just yet another FedEx glitch, but it would still be nice to see Oakland on the tracking page!

For all those lucky enough to have already received their IMAC 27" please let us know what BRAND SSD is in it.

I just got a shipment notification for my May 16 iMac + SSD order.

Delivers to Los Angeles on June 17.

A good thing too as my Air needs a rest.

By all accounts, everyone who has posted screen shots have shown a Toshiba SSD - the same one in the 21.5 and previous generations.

SHIPPED!!!!! Est. delivery of June 16! Working the night shift, so at least I'll be home when it get's to the house, then I'll have to go to sleep, that'll suck. I'll probably still mess with it for a bit. Gonna be a long night at work the night after.

Australian Orders - Prepared for Shipment

Hi,
I have been rabidly following this thread and the Apple Order Status page for weeks now. I ordered on May 19th, and changed to Prepared for Shipment about 8pm (Australian East coast time) yesterday. Is there anyone else in Australia like me who is waiting in Prepared for Shipment? How long do we think until we ship? Anyone already ship and have details on routing, carrier, etc? Curious...

+1

I think something is wrong in the tracker and it will update all in one step only...

What the hell?

I placed my order for a 27" w/ SSD on 6/6 after waiting a month to see if the student iPod deal was going to show up. I was also hesitant about the SSD (wanted to wait and see some reviews first), and was holding off on the free printer in case I decided to reconfigure the iMac without the SSD (didn't want to have the printer shipped way before the iMac). Anyhow, wasn't supposed to ship until mid July (although I suspected that it would get bumped up). But I just got an email showing that it shipped today and will arrive in 2 days!

Of course this is good news, but I'm still on the fence about the SSD; I did not get a chance to re-order the printer (a Mac rep suggested I take it off the order until closer to the ship date to prevent it from shipping way ahead of the iMac); and despite waiting patiently for a month, apparently I have now missed the (possible) student iTunes card deal by a day? The 6 week wait that I was originally quoted was actually in my favor!

Of course this a ridiculous reason to gripe, I know. I guess I just wasn't expecting action so fast! I'm going to call Apple tomorrow and see if they can accommodate my original plan of having the printer on the order as I thought I was technically going to be in line for a while longer. Also, after waiting patiently for the whole month, if I can't get that student deal I'll be kinda bummed. Again, ridiculous reason to moan.. I know, I know!
