What is it with these Sun Belt teams? We barely escaped Troy, ULM almost beat Auburn (I was disappointed in that one), and Western Kentucky beats UK. Maybe the SEC should look at the Sun Belt for the next expansion.

Oh yeah, that Texas-Ole Miss game was a major league beatdown. It was great!

I had to laugh at ESPN attempting to hype that game up as if it would be tough for Texas.

The Trojans looked average and Barkley looked mortal against Stanford
Forget the hype of their magical season
They may still have a pretty good year, but this definitely tarnishes their hype

Like I said last week, I think they were exposed against Syracuse. Anyone that watched that game wouldn't have been surprised by Stanford. They obviously have mad talent in the skill positions, but are lacking in just about every other area. I think the hype was just the media hoping for someone to come along to dethrone Alabama. It's good for ratings. Unfortunately I think this season is Alabama, perhaps LSU, and then everyone else. Maybe FSU can come close?

Good to see Texas show some life. We have oSu and West Virginia before playing the stinking Sooners - we'll see if the Horns are paper tigers soon enough.

I really don't think LSU will be able to hang with 'Bama this year
They have lost a lot of folks, but we shall see

FSU looks good, but they haven't really played anyone, and they have a light schedule all year
They are a team people like to get on the bandwagon (I actually like FSU)
But they have to live up to their hype, and last year they did not
USC showed that hype alone doesn't win games

There are several good teams out there
But until someone takes down 'Bama, they are the best around IMO

FWIW, the Dawgs at #5 in the country is a joke for anyone who has watched them
They have a lot of growing up to do
Hopefully when they are at full strength on defense they will put together a complete game

The Gators are gaining confidence on the road at A&M and Tennessee
And that bothers me :(

There are at least three teams that are WAY over ranked in today's AP poll (and yes, MacDawg, UGA is one). There are several more with questionable ranks.

Weird AP poll today.

Still lots of football to play. It's the best time of the year!

I'm going to be at the Nebraska game next weekend - it's been awhile since I've hung out in Lincoln. Looking forward to it - O Street downtown is always a lot of fun. The football game probably won't be all that exciting, though. Idaho State is the sacrificial lamb.

I don't love the Horns' chances of keeping up with Jame Gumb, Genocide Smith & Co. but I'm not sold on this year's version of oSu. Should be an interesting few weeks, though.

Florida should be ranked ahead of USC, Texas, Notre Dame and Clemson and OU seems about five spots too high.

I agree with the Florida comment even though it pains me, but I feel USC should have dropped farther down the poles..

I have a feeling the others will fall or move up based on their performances. Given this is the second/third week, if you will, lots of dust still in the air and we are going to see a few more upsets of ranked teams before it settles.

Yeah, I agree that the rankings don't mean much at the moment. How do you rank teams like Texas or Oklahoma when they haven't played anyone yet? Give it a few more weeks and we'll have a better idea of how good some of these teams are.

I've always been of the mind that polls shouldn't be released until the first Sunday in November. The idea that a good team has to "jump" a bunch of teams because some writers/coach's assistants/etc. made somewhat educated guesses in August (or April, in some cases) is preposterous.

It'll be a moot point in couple of years but until then...

Except for 'Bama, of course. :) Seriously, I'm one Tide fan who isn't taking anything for granted. I admit I was worried when A.J.'s hand got stepped on last Saturday, though I figured it couldn't be too bad when he kept on playing in a game that wasn't in doubt. Still, there's a lot of football still to be played.

Roll Tide.

I didn't see any of the Alabama-Arkansas game; just the 52-0 score. What was ugly on the Bammer side?

I watched the entire game and didn't see anything ugly, either, though if I were an Arkansas fan I wouldn't have been happy. I hear than Nick Saban was criticized for challenging a fumble call late in the game, but I didn't blame him for it - it's what he does.

Several interesting games on tap for this week:

Going with all the home teams except Auburn, LSU too strong for them

Kentucky at Florida
Gators are growing up and gaining confidence
That does not please me
I hate the Gators™

Missouri at South Carolina
On the road in the SEC is tough, really tough

Cal at USC
Would love to see Cal pull the upset
Do the Trojans bounce back or is their psyche wounded?

LSU at Auburn
If it weren't for Arkansas, everyone would be talking about how bad Auburn is

Michigan at Notre Dame
Should be a great game again
I would call this one a toss up

Vandy at Georgia
Last year was a scare for the Dawgs
Lots of folks were high on Vandy to start the year
They aren't pushovers, but I think the Dawgs take care of business

KState at Oklahoma
I think the Sooners have too much for KState
But this could be an upset in the making

Clemson at Florida State
Florida State has an easier schedule than Georgia if that's possible
Clemson is likely their toughest opponent until Florida
'Noles win handily

Arizona at Oregon
Interesting game, but the Ducks are at home
Take the Ducks

No one gives two craps about any of these games except MAYBE Missouri at USCe except the fans of the schools and maybe other SEC teams.

Not very interesting matchups.

I am taking Michigan over ND.... Go Big Blue!

I am hoping Arizona pulls out the upset, send the Pac 12 into a tizzy!

I just rolled into the hotel in Lincoln. The Huskers are staying here as well. I'd pull the fire alarm at 3am but I have a feeling Nebraska isn't gonna have any trouble with Idaho State tomorrow, with or without any sleep. :)

Time to go get a beer or twelve on O Street.

Looking forward to KSU/OU and Michigan/ND, although I won't be able to see either one of them. Kind of a yawner of a weekend otherwise, IMO.

Dawg's gotta be happy - GT screws the pooch in OT against Miami! :)

Not a very interesting game in Lincoln today, but I still had a good time. Gonna be a quiet ride home, though.
