Credit Card Charged (replacement shipped): July 20th
Replacement picked up (or rejected): Emailed replacement is in store July 30th picked up aug 1st
Replacement Model: 2017 2.8/16gb/1tb/pro 555
Apple online repair status: No info available
Original model: CTO 2.7/16gb/512/650m
New model offered: 2015 2.8/16gb/1TB/370x

Unfortunately can't pick it up until tuesday, so here is to hoping something wont change until then.

Has anyone received a 2015 since lets say the 15th? I kind of want the 2015, since I don't want to deal with dongles just yet.

Well my saga is over and like everyone else couldn't be happier. So went in store today to pickup, and like everyone else told me the 2015 they had ordered was out of stock and upgraded me to 2017 touch bar.

Ended up with the 2.8ghz with Radeon 555 and 1TB SSD!

I did "complain" that I really wanted the 2015 version due to dongle hell, and they also threw in a 70 dollar dongle in there for me...best 200 bucks I have ever spent in my life lol.

Edit: Was actually a 2017!

Man, I hope I have your luck. If I get a 2015 I'll probably sell it and keep my 13" TB, but if I get a 2016 or newer my 13" is likely going bye bye.

Yup that's what I thought - lol
Nice work!

Date of appointment: July 24th
Took credit card info: NA (Convinced them to do it as a warranty replace over the "Display Issues" repair extension)
Credit Card Charged (replacement shipped): NA
Replacement picked up (or rejected): August 1st
Replacement Model: No replacement - they had the parts
Apple online repair status: No info available
Original model: CTO 2.6/8gb/256/650m
New model offered: No replacement - they had the parts

I brought mine in on July 12th originally for the Repair Extension for Video Issues, also complaining that the screen had burn-in, and the battery wasn't holding charge. They told me it was just OS problems, and sent me home.

I spent a week trying (and failing) to get an OS reinstalled, so brought it back in on July 24th. I got them to cover the repairs under the Repair Extension (even though mine should have already expired.)

They sent it off. I just got it back. They replaced the display assembly, top case (including battery,) logic board, heatsinks and fans. Basically the only original parts I got back were my AirPort card (which I promptly replaced with an 802.11ac model I had in before the repair,) SSD, and the bottom case.

(I had an 802.11ac AirPort card in it, but before taking it in for repair, I swapped the original 802.11n card in. I've been bitten by that on a previous MacBook Pro; when they did a warranty repair on my first-gen 2006 MBP with later-upgrade 802.11n card, they swapped out the AirPort card for the original 802.11g model without asking permission first.)

Congrats on your 2017 machine. :)

Yea I just noticed this after finishing setting it up...they told me it was a 2016 at the store lol.

I just went on the store to configure this exact system...its 3k USD! Figure my old 2012 was worth at least 1k, so thats around a 2k upgrade for 200 bucks...still can't believe it.

Date of appointment: July 11th
Took credit card info: Can't remember
Credit Card Charged (replacement shipped): July 20th
Replacement picked up (or rejected): July 24th, couldn't get into the store and pick it up until 31st
Replacement Model: 2016 2.9ghz, 1tb SSD, 16gb RAM, Radeon Pro 460
Apple online repair status: No info available
Original model: 2.3ghz, 8gb RAM, 256gb SSD, GeForce GT 650M
New model offered: 2016 2.7ghz, but they "ran out" from the Refurb
Location: Australia

I was blown away, I think I got the near top spec 2016 model, the only other possible improvement was a 2tb SSD from what I can see. I only found out about this when I thought I'd get that pesky "Service Battery" error checked before selling it and upgrading, and if the replacement top case made it a bit "newer" then that'd be a bonus.

Something that seems to be coming up a lot is that peoples cards failed first time around - mine did. The whole procedure seemed to be very "ad hoc", I would have thought they could just use the info on file with the Apple ID.

Very lucky! I'm in Australia too and my appointment was on the 20th, was called up for CC info on the 21st and told it'd be ready by 'mid next week', which is now a week ago. Will probably call up tomorrow and see what's going on.

Anyone that after dropping the macbook for regular battery replacement, got a call telling that the pieces will be late and the computer swap option was viable?

Also really curious about this. I picked up my comp while we're waiting for the battery to come in. Was provided with a free battery replacement since I had taken my comp in on the 25th. Was told August 8th for the part to arrive, but I doubt it for some reason. Curious if anyone is getting offered the CRU option post this whole fiasco.

This is what I'm hoping for. I plan to go in on August 8th and if they don't have the parts I'm going to be a bit firmer about getting a workable replacement.

Interestingly enough, I just got a call from the store and they let me know the part has come in. So much for my skepticism... haha. Anyways, free full top case replacement, can't and shouldn't complain - saving me $300.00+.

Just got an email to say mine has arrived into store - strange because I've not been charged for it yet!

What's also annoying is that the Service battery warning has now gone, the health is still poor so guess it's due to the way I've been using the machine over the past week (not a lot!)

Will update later :)

Just got "the call". Dropped on the 29th, and today is ready, my rmbp mid 2012 got new battery, new screen, new logic board + gpu for 209€.
So it is real... no more shortages, super fast support!

Just picked up my replacement - 2016 TB 256GB!

So happy, such great service. The strange thing is im yet to be charged the £200 replacement fee, I guess that'll come out within a few days as they have all of my details.

Have been scratching my head for a week about my dumb luck, and just found the other thread and this one that explained what happened.

Somewhere around the first of the year I noticed "Service Battery" alert when clicking on battery item in menu bar. Battery life was still acceptable on my mid-2012 / 2.7 / 16GB / 768GB system, so I ignored it until mid July on a business trip when the battery was at 40% and then system shutoff during a customer presentation. Embarrassing.

Made an appointment for Tuesday July 25th after returning home. Gave genius the background and that I had a lot of business trips coming up in August. He disappeared and came back offering $199 replacement, or wait until September for free top case / battery. Pretty easy decision, I needed a reliable laptop for business so I gave my credit card in the store before leaving. Received call on Friday morning to come pick up replacement.

Blown away - its a 2016 / 2.9 / 16GB / 2TB touch bar model. A little annoyed about the lack of an adapter in the box to connect to my USB3 backup drive, but figured it would be better to start from scratch and get rid of software no longer being used. Keyboard is fine, I liked the previous keyboard a little better (arrow keys), but really starting to like TouchBar. Unlocks with Apple Watch, sweet. Paid for Transmit 5 using Apple Pay and my fingerprint yesterday. I really needed more drive space so the 2TB is awesome. Similar performance on long compiles, guess the 2017 is faster.

Very happy.
