They could dump the 21.5 (or make the current model the education one) and go with a 24 and 27.

Well, guess they could do a 24 and a 32. That might explain the rumours about price rises.

After all, if it's thinner, it's going to take up less space. That means there's room for the bigger displays ;)

Doubt it they are too close in size. Some like small and some like it big. Of course they could make 24" & 32" but somehow I don't think that's gonna happen :)

, or someone that doesnt want their imac to seem old.

Um, I've been one of those here anxious to update my 2009 iMac this entire time. In fact, all year long I've been a part of this discussion. In any case, the difference between me and some other people is that I don't take wishful thinking as fact. I want proof. And we don't yet have proof. Hopefully on October 23rd, that will change.

I own a 24" iMac and I love it, it's really disappointing that we have to choose between 21" and 27", they're too different.

Anyway I think I'll go with the 27", even if I think it's too big, but I'm a UI designer and designing for retina iPhone and iPad requires a lot of pixels!:D

If I weren't a designer, I'd go with the 21".

With regards to pixel counts and talk of retina, is there any chance the iMac could be given the same screen res as the current rMBP without causing scaling issues?

Cool, thanks for the info. Yet again you are a mighty source of knowledge. Just noticed this in the recent geekbench results. Uploaded today by the looks of it.

What do you think?

Looks like a Hackintosh. "iMac 12,2" should be the 2011 27" model. But it's using a "K" (unlocked) processor, which I don't think Apple even uses in BTOs, and 1600 MHz RAM isn't supported in the 2011's.

This one is just a terrible fake. "0 Mhz" RAM? Lol.

Good point, wishful thinking on my part wanting some more news. I'll leave the trawling of geekbench to someone else. I'm just looking forward to unpacking my now 6 months old USB 3 externals and ditching the 5 year old dell laptop. This will be my first venture in to the mac world and I don't ever want to look back!

Uhm, that kind of proof you are looking for you will never get until Apple official announce anything. All the rumours are just rumours. And We´ve experienced before something that seemed very probable which surprisingly didn´t happen. ...and I wouldn´t be surprised if some will be disappointed because the amount of products that is rumoured to be released next tuesday is a bit beyond normal releases.

But that said, the rumours we got so far, with leaked images, SKU´s and claims from various sources, such as analysts, people who claim to know more than the rest of us etc have been much more this time around than what iMacs have gotten before. That in addition to stock levels all dried up pretty much everywhere. You can´t expect much more than this unless Apple comes with an official statement. So, if these rumours don´t give you at least some anxiety of a new release, then rumour sites are pretty pointless to visit :)

and 32" is just a weird size. That is getting to small TV size ... I really doubt that would be the next model.

If anything I could see a 21.5 25 and 28 sized models ... but then again 3 models of desktop is a bit much for apple

Im not buying that, but One possibility is 21,24 and 2x 27.

Would suit the good(21) better(24), best(27), ultimate(27), and explain all the 3 models rumors. Also would explain the price increases, the weird stock apple has of the 4 models, and the whole : "new product structure" shenanigans they sent to French retailers last week.

Also, I think it makes sense on a pure commercial aspect, as the current 21 inches are pretty similar, as is the hi21 and lo27(except for the obvious). I think 24 might be a sweet spot for many.

If they were to do this, I would defiantly get the 24". 27" is far to big for me but that would be the sweet spot. Were there any leaked SKU's for the 2011 iMac for comparison?
