Still no new iMac?

LOLOLOL. Glad I got mine back in June or something. Man oh man, I wouldn't like to still be waiting. For people that have waited so long, it would be harder to make the decision to buy since they've invested so much time waiting for it. Aaand it'll come out and be an incremental increase, as it always is, and you were probably better off buying it sooner than later because technology advancements don't stop - in a couple months your new iMac (although still flippen' great - I've got the most pimped out made-to-order iMac you can get) will slowly be outshadowed by something else.

Though, I must say, I'm flippen' digging my iMac. Really really good.

Anyways. Keep hoping I suppose if you're still waiting? Or put an end to your frustration and get a current iMac - for most users (and I'm a heavy Photoshop / video editing / rendering / animation user) this iMac suits me just great.

Cut the price by 20% and I'll buy it today. Not buying a 17-month-old 2011 iMac is, at this stage, an economic decision, not a performance decision.

Exactly. For 20% off, I'd too buy one tomorrow. Paying full price is stupid for something that now costs Apple much less to build than it did when it came out.

good for you. Why did you feel the need to tell everyone here about it?

They are no longer manufacturing the 2011 model. They are manufacturing the new model now.

Thats awesome, great that its working out good for you.
It is harder to make the decision of buying the current one at this point. If anything I would say most would turn to another company lol.
The current one is a great machine but personally since I can wait a bit more am fine waiting, those that really need have it more tough.

I would say to anyone and most will agree and have said already. If you really need one asap, then going for the current or another computer you like is the best route, if you can wait a bit longer I would say definitely stick around a little longer because no matter how you look at it a release is extremely near.

I have a 6 year old PC, however it still works fine with Windows 7 and on most tasks it doesn't break a sweat. I'm holding out for the iMac so I can have access to the OS X software, although im also trying to get a hackinstosh:)

Looking forward to all of the iPhone/iOS buzz to die down a bit and for these news/blogs to begin looking into more iMac rumors.

Have my fingers crossed for 9/25!

If not, we are certainly coming down to the wire, the best rumors we have are people from the supply chain claiming late September (back in August), but now sometime in October. Hope its sooner than later!!!

I get weaker each passing day :/ especially since stock is back at my local store :(

It'll be out. 25th is a long shot (I feel like I've been saying this every Thursday since the disappointment on July 25th), but if we do not see it by then, it will be out any Tuesday in October. Apple is more than likely handling the iPhone buzz and waiting for things to get a bit back to normal.

My thought process each Monday night for every Tuesday, for the next 6 weeks:

25th - Maybe, slim chance, but maybe :D

2nd - More probable

9th - Even more probable

16th - If it didn't come out yet, it'll be this day

23rd - 2013 is looking like the release date

30th - We'll see it in 2013. I may buy an alternative product

Sounds about right to me. My timeline is looking similar. It's kind of funny, I've been waiting since May and at this point I kind of regret not just grabbing a refurbished 2011 when I needed it. Could have avoided alot of stress and actually gotten the things done that I need a new imac for....

This timetable would 'suck' bad, i am starting uni on the 24th September and officially start lectures on the 1st October, therefore I would like to be up and running by first week of October. I really dont want to hang about any later as my lectures, essays and lab work will be underway, and i AM NOW after the screen real estate and better CPU and GPU to handle 3D protein models.

This waiting is just ridiculous tbh.

The fact is I could of bought one months ago, but didnt because everyone on this forum tells me otherwise and has been WRONG every single time.

I am not sure why October seems to be a 'confirmed date' - seems like a month pulled out of random.

It is a tough decision indeed. For a 500 day old product it is still mighty sexy in person lol

Yeah its funny because I keep thinking wow I should've just gotten a current model. But then I say, look you made it this far, just wait it out.

I know, it stinks, but whatever. I got this second hand Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook that I have been using now, a whopping 3gb's of DDR2, a 1.5ghz Core 2 Duo T5250, a 5400 rpm spinning disk, and integrated Intel graphics. I think the screen is 15" 4:3. This is going to be a glorious upgrade once I get my hands on a 2012 iMac. I have almost $2000 in the bank that I am itching to spend!

First world problems right lol?

You can get those kinds of savings with a refurbished unit. I went with a 3.4GHz i7 with SSD, 4GB of RAM and 1GB of VRAM for $2289 - a $410 savings (15%). They sent me a unit with 8GB of RAM and 2GB of VRAM - a $610 savings (21%).

So if you can live without USB3...

The thing also is that we barely get any rumors with the iPhone 5 we got something everyday at least speculation just like apple the rumor sites don't seem to care as much I know it's hard to smuggle iMac parts but we hardly get speculation

my issue is I could potentially save money if they come with SSD standard, as it stands now

$1419 + tax=$1537 for 2011 27" i5 refurb
$149 for 256gb like new SSD amazon warehouse deals
$60 hard drive kit from i fixit
$40 for 8gb ram or $80 for 16gb.

so $1786 or $1826

potential new 2012 one (with bumped specs of course) $1599 (edu discount) +tax =$1730

so idk :/

and i know i can live without usb 3 :) sata internal hdd or TB external is good enough for me.

Given the current levels of supply, it seems like it would be hard to buy the 2011 version, even if you wanted one. If the 2011s start to come back into stock in large numbers, I would say that's bad. Really bad.

Is there consensus here re: when the drop dead date is? Example: If it doesn't come out by Oct. 30, then we're looking at 2013?

Drop Dead Date anyone?

  • Sept 25th
  • Oct 2nd
  • Oct 9th
  • Oct 16th
  • Oct 23rd
  • Oct 30th

Come to Italy. No single Apple Retail Store, Premium Reseller or even any other random chain that carries Macs (Saturn, Mediaworld, FNAC, etc.) has the slightest hint of a low supply.

I guess I don't completely follow your thought process.

I agree that Apple wouldn't want to do a big release until maybe 2 weeks after people start getting their iPhone 5s, so that puts it after October 5th.

Back to school sales have already happened (we're more than halfway through September already!) so that doesn't come into play.

Unlike most people here it seems, I think November and early December are still possibilities because of Christmas. In fact maybe October is less likely *because* of the holiday season.

Yeah. I'm tired of this "low supply" tail-chasing. I have been searching Google news for iMac rumors and keep getting my hopes up when I see an article about low supplies, only to notice moments later that the articles were written weeks and often MONTHS ago. So many false alarms re: supplies that it really seems pointless to try to follow them.

I don't think November / December are likely. We just have to wait until the iPhone 5 hype has died down. So my guess is early October.

If nothing has been released by the end of October, I will start a "Waiting for Haswell iMac " thread.
