I smell BS :)

I'm going to hold out until the middle of October then make a decision! Hopefully they update their Thunderbolt display too!

Time to update the Buyer's Guide

Macrumors has been having 'Don't Buy - Updates soon' for few months now; maybe it should be updated into something like 'Hopefully updates soon' or 'We actually don't know', etc.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG GUYS :D

AMAZING news. All of apples stores online are restocked (a few are saying will be ready on 27th)

AND

Amazon has restocked 2 of the iMac models. One of them doesnt even give the "only 10 left" counter anymore. GG WP Apple... You really took a massive dump on my face, one more :)!

I noticed this, too...

Or it could say: "go to hell apple for ignoring the desktop market completely!"

If there's no iMac in October apple is loosing one fanboy, that's for sure. :(

lets be a little realistic now, amazon is still out and even though all the apple store are full stock it is still weird that most re sellers are out the fact that they get little to no stock its actually good sign. Is not like the current imacs are completely out of stock im sure apple still have thousands of those machines store somewhere but we starting to see that apple is thinking carefully where to send inventory and how much because the reality is that they dont have much to have every supplier full stock. In other words im still happy that amazon has little to none its a very good sing were not specting them to NEVER get stock again are we ? i think specting 0 stock for the rest of them month its a bit unrealistic. Apple its definitely gonna update them sometime in october.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but according to the same poster who said Apple stores were restocked, Amazon are pretty much in the same position.

And we've heard many times before about Apple's inventory management with a 5 day turnaround on stock. They won't have thousands of these things in a warehouse somewhere. As I speculated earlier, there is a possibility that the rumoured lamination problems are still ongoing and that they've just turned on the old production line again.

Tim Cook said on the 08th of march: "... the post PC era..."

Sad but true...

I think Tim was eating his "How to sound like Steve Jobs and sound smart" cereal that morning. What he means is, PC's won't have a prominent role like they previously did in the past.

Personally, i think we may be looking at 18 month cycles from now on.

Past

My guess = 547 days (month & a half away!)
??? 507 days
05/2011 280 days
07/2010 280 days
10/2009 231 days
03/2009 309 days

where is your source for this, no rumors has pointed out that they started the old machine's productions back, its clear that apple is wating for the 27 inch so they can launch the 21 & 27 at the same time im pretty sure they have figured it out by now.

No source, pure speculation as I said. Apple stores are restocked, Amazon are restocked. You and others have been using the low to 0 stock situation as justification for believing in an imminent launch of the new model. But, now, everywhere's stocked up. So, now, your position is that the stock situation doesn't matter.

Of course, I could ask what your source is for the statement "it's clear that apple is waiting for the 27 inch", but you're speculating just as much as I am.

I agree that Apple wouldn't want to do a big release until maybe 2 weeks after people start getting their iPhone 5s, so that puts it after October 5th.

Which would put us in the window of the rumored iPad Mini / iPad Air launch.

With the report that stores are re-stocking 2011 units, my advice is that if you need an iMac now and can live without USB 3, get a refurb. I saved 20% over new thanks to receiving a unit with twice the RAM and VRAM as advertised. I was considering replacing it with a new model this year, but now I am going to wait until Haswell because I don't need USB3 and my 2011 iMac is still more than powerful enough for everything I throw at it.

I´m guessing this is some way apple is flipping the last stocks around to get rid of them all. From the online stores to the shops etc...its not like there´s suddenly refills everywhere. Places like bestbuy etc are still more or less completely out without any info on delivery. and amazon has ships to 2-5 weeks on one of them, which seems its not in stock and one that´s still out. Its not like they are all filled up again.

amazon is not restock its says 2-5 weeks thats not restocked sometimes some "in stock" will come in and its just from other vendors not from amazon warehouses.

Turns out the Amazon restock must have been an error.

It seems they only have stock of the lowend 21" now and even that has only 10 in stock. So I guess its a little bright again. The restock for some stores, is still noted as the 27". I think they are reorganizing in between stores at this point, rather than getting from suppliers from abroad, but thats just speculation.

Earlier today they just had "in stock" ready for shipment next day, so it looked like a full restock, this seems to be not the case any longer.

Well, not much, or rather at all of valuable news from my side but I just had an online chat with Apple support in Belgium. I asked them if they sell refurbished Macs (I couldn't find them online) and after being informed that they don't sell refurbished Macs at all, I asked if they have any information on an update - he said they don't have any more information than the users...

Btw. yep, I would like to buy a refurbished one as I really need it now (waiting since April or May) but I don't want to pay that price for 2011 technology and switching to Windows is not an option for me (unfortunately).

Not happening in the next week people....

we already knew this. I mean isnt obvious even if apple had 0 stock on their website they wouldnt release the imac this month and probably not the following either its clear at least to me that they are gonna wait a little bit for the iphone buzz to die down a bit. its the sad truth i hate it but its the truth. To be Honest i think were gonna see an new line of imacs and mac minis at the October event.

I'm reviewing rumors of a 2012 iMac refresh. Of course, we have Kuo's latest word that they're coming in October with an iPad mini, but we're sitting in the second half of September without any indication of a second Apple Event (also Kuo's claim). The iPhone 5 arrives in stores today, so clearly they'd want to wait to announce another event. How much notice do they typically give before an Apple event occurs? And if Kuo's claim of a second Apple event in October proves false, does that mean we throw out his other claims, too?

Low inventory is a good sign. There is mixed evidence here. With two exceptions, all four Seattle-area Apple stores now show iMacs as in-stock and ready for pick-up.

To me the best evidence are stories (there are three in this thread) of people talking to Apple Store staff, wanting to buy an iMac, and being quietly advised to wait. True, they might not have any more solid information than we do, but I've never known a salesman in my life to advise a ready-to-buy customer to hold off. I say there's something to that.

Events are warned with about a weeks notice, sometimes down to 3-4 days.

There is one thing Sales people know more than us, they can follow the stocks much closer, or atleast as close as those of us who are most adament at observing every little change. They are seeing stocks dwindle down, and are making guesses based on that. Its deffo NOT the "best" guess, but yes, its sligtly better than mine and yours.

Kuo's not the only one to predict an October event, Gruber did as well, I think. How much notice does depend on the event size. If they hold it on their own premises then they only have to send out the invites a week or two before. I think the invites for the last iPad launch were two weeks prior and the iPhone 5 only a week (but everyone knew that was coming anyway).

If they're going to hold something off-site, I would have thought we would have heard by now.

Also, not sure whether these are factors or not. Oracle Openworld will basically own San Francisco and all hotels in the valley from Sep 30 to Oct 4. Apple are due to announce quarterly results about 23rd Oct. Still, that leaves 3 possible Tuesdays in October :)

And NOW one of the 27" went from "2 to 5 weeks" to "temporarily out of stock" and the 21" that had so many that it didn't even give "only 10 left" (in stock) is now temporarily out of stock and the OTHER 21" is showing only 10 left... This is all very strange. :/

Do we know how reliable Amazon's in-stock counts usually are? For all I know, these kinds of variations are common...

Event format, too. Remember the "Introducing Mountain Lion" events from earlier this spring? Where Apple sent its top guns to meet with a handful of media personalities ONE-ON-ONE with basically zero notice to anyone until it happened? And that's why we can never be too sure of what Apple is going to do until they do it. I share your frustration at how difficult this makes it to plan ahead. :D

Well based on just todays roller coaster, I would say their counts arent reliable at all ^^

This is the 3rd change today.

Nor does Apples own count seem to be reliable: yesterday 6 stores in NY area said out of stock will be here 26, now only roughly 2 stores say: "available for pickup 28th"

If I had to read ANYTHING into this it would be: There are VERY low supplies, and the sudden restocks are based on internal stock rotations. Some stores sell beter than others, so slow sellers are sending to fast sellers.

----------

I would imagine some web designer is having a blast on the forums, tweaking stuff and testing how fast its gets up on the rumour sites :p
