I suppose they can't ignore the desktops forever. I do imagine they have missed quite a large number of sales though even though it probably is just a drop in the bucket compared to the iphones. Also, the minute this iphone 5 frenzy dies down, then they will try to hype up the ipad mini machine and only when that dies down might we see some action on the imac?

I was just in the SF apple store and a Holy Being spoke to me through a Tall Phone 5 microphone and told me that Tim Cook is doing stuff.

He didn't go into much detail, but then the Holy Being leaned towards me and told me that I shouldn't buy an iMac cuz he has foreseen the future, which has lots of cheesegrater plated iMacbook Retina Pro 5's in it.

I´m guessing this is some way apple is flipping the last stocks around to get rid of them all. From the online stores to the shops etc...its not like there´s suddenly refills everywhere. Places like bestbuy etc are still more or less completely out without any info on delivery. and amazon has ships to 2-5 weeks on one of them, which seems its not in stock and one that´s still out. Its not like they are all filled up again.

Tekserve in NYC is completely out of 27" models and has just one 21.5" model in stock (out of stock on the other). That seems a real indication of an imminent surprise to me.

Amazon in the US is showing nothing in stock again, except for the mid range 21.5" model, with 7 in stock.

It is coming, very soon.

Amazon has last year's entire MacBook Pro line currently in stock. I've even received emails pushing them. They're almost the same price too so I don't know how they expect to ever clear the inventory.

Sounds good but still no word from Apple eh.

New Refresh Soon.

Hi I'm a salesman at Futureshop in the computer's division. I've looked at our stock for Imacs today and I was really shocked when I discovered that there a maximum of 10 iMac left for all the Canada! We are out of stock and sold out online/in-store and I didn't see any new orders coming in! So thats a pretty good sign of a refresh! Hope to see it soon!

To me the best evidence are stories (there are three in this thread) of people talking to Apple Store staff, wanting to buy an iMac, and being quietly advised to wait. True, they might not have any more solid information than we do, but I've never known a salesman in my life to advise a ready-to-buy customer to hold off. I say there's something to that.

I bet this is happening more and more. i really doubt the store employees know anything but it was reasuring when I heard a couple of them telling customers not to buy. One was an couple in their 70's looking to get a iMac because they loved their experience with their iPad, the other was a lady in her 40's. Two separate Apple employees told them not to buy one unless they had to have it today. This was at an Apple store just south of Denver CO, two weeks ago, within the 20 minutes I was there.

Sellers on Amazon in the UK are still offering pre 2011 iMacs so the "newest version" or "May 2011 release" are a way to distinguish the models when multiple versions, for whatever reason, are still available on the site.

It's so little interesting happening here these last days... :( it's just too quiet

Been waiting months and months for the new iMac and money put aside for purchase. However every so often something else comes along and eats into those savings (notably Synology 212 NAS Diskstation, Nikon D5100 Camera and SB910 flashgun). However a big gobble was taken yesterday when I succumbed to the iPhone 5. Had a iPhone 4 so this is a reasonable upgrade and delighted with it. So that will give me something else to play with while I wait for a new iMac, and give me time to save up again LOL.

The queues in Glasgow for the iPhone5 were huge and it really made me think how long Apple will continue to make Desktop Computers. iPhones, iPads and Laptops really seem to be where their revenue is coming from. I am certainly going to go with the top spec iMac when they are released because I would not like to bet on any future iMacs.

A few Apple stores are now showing oct. 1. As stock date for a model or 2. But stock in general look MUCH better than they did a week ago In apples own NY stores.

Only thing people have got to talk about is stocks running low. Not enough to get me excited.

Lets hope its just because the iPhone 5 was just released

probably...iPhone got in stores yesterday, I guess people aren´t bored yet frothing over them. I havent even bought one yet, but I´m bored of it. I´ll buy it eventually, but its not like when the iMac comes out. I´m gonna buy it so hard that those managing the web will go: "what the hell happened there??"

Im more than happy to wait for the iPhone 5S. I want the iMac NOW!!

'new' data point

everyday (at the moment) I scan Google for "iMac 2012" stories that cropped-up in the previous 24h. Just now this brought up a special offer on the iMac 27" MC813 from Italy's largest electronics reseller. The price today from applestore Italy is still 1663 euros - but the Mediaworld Italy offer is €1499. Even tho' that is only 164 euros discount or around 10%, it is a very rare discount for Apple products in Italy that usually have a premium rather than a 'sconto'.

details at mediaworld-dot-it

Oh, the 'new datapoint', just that this special offer is only valid from September 6th until tomorrow, September 23rd, or unless all 27 inch MC813 models are sold-out beforehand... checking the stock quantity by trying to place an order reveals that MC812/813/814 are not available (the MC309 base 21.5" is available) - final point, all 3 Mac Mini models MC815/816 & MC936 are also sold-out at mediaworld italia.

Sadly, I do as well, and am tired of perusing through google everyday and Mac Rumors for "new iMac 2012" rumors. Like I said in a previous post, middle of October is my firm deadline, after that, it's rMBP. I'm not waiting until 2013 for a freakin mac.

Last I was at my local Saturn (Sambuceto, Chieti) they had a similar discount on the base 21.5". It was €1079 or so, and I actually spoke with the dept. clerk and asked him about availability. He said that they do have enough in stock, however he couldn't give any estimate about supplies because it's Apple who decides when to restock. With other manufacturers, he said, it's the store/chain that requests more units from the distributor when they're low; with Apple, on the other hand, there are no intermediate distributors so the requests they make for new supplies may never come or may come at Apple's own leisure. Note the Saturn and Mediaworld are "cousin" chains, both owned by MediaMarket Italia which is a branch of the Germany-based MediaMarkt GmbH chain.
Anyway kind of echoes what my local Apple Premium Reseller (Ormi in Pescara) told me a few months back: "we honestly have no idea when the new models are being released; the 2011 model comes in and goes out [he literally said "entrano ed escono"] just fine, and Apple doesn't tell us in advance about new models."
It's also worth mentioning that chains like Mediaworld, Saturn and even FNAC and the others don't strictly have a big need to sell Macs. Since Apple's prices are pretty much fixed (save for occasional discounts such as the ones both you and I have seen), they don't care much for Mac sales. I have witnessed clerks try to convince confused clients that "you can't find much software for the Mac, why don't you look at this HP here that runs the ubiquitous Windows 7 and is also quite cheaper?"

So yeah, unless we really see stocks dwindling everywhere (in the US at least), I don't think we can take it as a clear sign. Which is extremely disappointing. I'm almost considering a refurb 2011 again.

TBH I think we should just buy whats out - I went to the apple store today and several people had already been in an asked about the IMAC's - the same response 'we dont know, could be before xmas, could be after' - I put her in my shoes and she said if It was me, Id just buy one.

The fact is, there hasent been one 'solid utter' of up coming IMACS are we are pretty much now nearly into October.

I kinda agree with the people in the apple store - if something was upcoming we would here more than just rumors here and there by now but something more concrete.

Yes, you have a point, however I've been holding out for a long time now and I don't think that two more weeks are going to make much of a difference. It's just that with every passing day getting a 2011 refurb makes less and less sense, as it gets older and as we allegedly get closer to a new release.

Imagine this: you buy it next Monday, Sept 25, straight from an Apple Store. October 9th, one day after your two-weeks return window is over, they come out with a new one that costs just the same but has IB, USB3, SSD as a standard component, or whatever else you were personally waiting for. How would you feel? I know that by this line of thought nobody would ever buy anything, but at this point... I'll personally wait until the end of October and then decide. I really don't want to get a 2011, but I especially don't want to get a laptop.
