Let's hope they do a spec bump in the next 30 days, otherwise, if they do update in the spring prior to Haswell, we will be a whole iteration behind. At that point buying a early 2013 model, will be a letdown. Can't believe that they would then update again with a late 2013 model, but who knows at this point

if all apple come up with is a specbump now, they are the laziest company around when it comes to desktops.

If a new iMac isn't out by the end of October, I'll wait more for a MBPr or Mac Pro with Haswell ... I've waited that long, I can wait for a whole new generation of CPUs : it's worth it (my opinion, though)

Why? You clearly don't need that sort of power

Steve, you don't know me and never did. (RIP good fellow)

I don't need to know him. He said he has been waiting ages for a new iMac and wont get ivy bridge because its 6 months old. Doesn't sound like someone who would need that.

Isn't that clear? Also, I did ask why
:D:D:D

Haswell is rumored to be introduced between March and May 2013, barring any delays. That means another 160 days or so at the earliest. I highly doubt that Apple would let the iMac lapse for a total of 670 days... but then again who knows?
Yeah, but if Apple realease the iMac at November/December 2012, when they release a new iMac with the Haswell, if all wen't as in the past, it would be in June/July, that's roughly 6/7 months since the release of the Ivy Bridge iMac :(

I won't wait that long, hopefully they'll release the iMac soon and I can just relax and enjoy (and work) with my new mac, and never mind the new future iMac after this one (until the next time that I'll be hunting for a new mac).

If it mattered, I'd core an Apple just enough that it would serve as a basin for my urine, then I'd gladly send it to Apple HQ in Cupertino, so that way maybe, just maybe, Apple would get the slightest idea as to how they are making their iMac consumer base feel:

To be honest i'm asking myself if its not time to build my hackintosh.
At this moment even the 2011 cannot even accept external input to use it
as external monitor.
Maybe who bought a 2009 Imac had the right choice, because Macs in my opinion are not for gaming.
I'm really frustrated by Apple Itoys stategy, their lack of innovation is the way NOW they're consolidating their billions but Desktop users want more and for the right price.,not 2011 tech overpriced.
So maybe now,an hackintosh with a Cinema Led Display before Apple dicontinue even this one and a Classic MacBookPro 2012 is a good choice..if only i had money to go with this..option.
Then very soon its Windows8 time and i suppose we will see many new good products and if they improve their Appz as Apple did with AppStore and the Mac Appz..well Apple could be in a serious trouble made by them sitting lazy on their mountain of money.

Intel will be releasing the mobile and ultra-mobile Haswell chips first (seems odd but true) in early 2013 and I haven't seen any dates on when they will release their desktop chips so I wouldn't have a problem buying Ivy Bridge in the next few months. Besides, the main improvement for Haswell seems to be power consumption, which is less relevant for a desktop like the iMac.

To be honest i'm asking myself if its not time to build my hackintosh. ...

I have been waiting for a new iMac for months to *replace* my hackintosh, which I've been using as my day-to-day machine for about 3 years. It is amazing that you can get OS X working on (some) standard PC hardware but it's a hassle that I want to get away from. The sleep function on my computer doesn't work reliably, it hangs about 1/2 the time, so that's miserable. Also updating to a point release of the OS (e.g. Mountain Lion) takes a solid 1-2 days of work--reading message boards, reinstalling stuff, etc. Also, my cable internet provider started doing something weird the other week causing my hackintosh to drop its network connection every few minutes because of a driver issue, and futzing with the drivers on a hackintosh is NO fun.

I'm with you....Windows8 seems like it takes a LOT of the pain out of the jump.

Is so ironic though... spent since 1988 with Apple and (rightly) hating MS - and then since the late 90s hating them even more for the crap they made us jump through to make websites with every version of IE up to #7....

Now it's Microsoft that are actually coming to the rescue and Apple is the corporate whore. Would never have believed it in a million years....but the leap is a psychological one. It may well be that the production and user-experience in the dark side could well be much better. They're even dumbing down OS X.

It's just a matter of time because I've a feeling the let-down on the iMac when it finally shows will be cataclysmic and make us all wish we were still waiting. Those of us who can still think anyway...

Thats why i was thinking to buy a refurbed 2009 or a new 2012 CMBookPro,to have a little..nostalgic fun.
Then maybe a Surface and the next Xbox720 which i'm sure will fill my games needs.
Then Haswell.I was planning to buy my next MacbookPro with Haswell rather than Ivy Bridge but this delay in Imacs which gives any concern to any Mac news site ( they actually might be called 9t5Phone or IosRumors..)is changing a lot my plans but ,as i told you,it will change even my plans to buy Macs or Itoys in the future. If Apple will erase its ecosystem (Ios-Osx) will bring to consider different ..options,because Iphones-Ipad are sweet and pretty and capable but i need a real computer to work.

It's fun getting excited about rumors and anticipating an Apple release and commiserating when it doesn't happen but let's not get carried away.

Seriously, an iMac refresh could just be Ivy Bridge. A processor that's 5-10% percent faster and uses 5-10% power. The only substantial difference would be USB 3 (very important for some people, but at this time irrelevant for most people). If Apple is feeling generous they could bundle an SSD standard, but seriously, you can add an SSD to any iMac via FireWire for about $100 these days.

So by all means keep waiting on the iMac refresh if you can, since it doesn't make sense to spend money on a product that's right about to be refreshed, but if the waiting is causing near-clinical levels of depression then just go get a 2011 iMac since it's still not a bad purchase.

Windows 7 is a mighty good OS, no doubts about that. It's quite funny how Microsoft alternates good operating systems (XP, 7) to lame ones (Vista, 8),but the truth is that Windows 7 is not bad at all. However, I personally need OS X. Not only I have invested money in software for OS X, but I also develop apps for iOS — or I will start doing that again when I have a new iMac, since my 2006 machine chokes on XCode — and for that you need a Mac.
Having a UNIX/BSD backbone just one terminal away also simplifies my work greatly, so I'm afraid I'm stuck and I really wish I weren't.

How is that, performance-wise?

From what I've read on the web (other peoples' personal experiences), not bad. You're obviously going to be capped at around 80 MB/s read/write but the latency is much better which is the main attraction of an SSD anyway.

Also, BTW, if you're more adventurous, many people have installed SSDs in 2011 iMacs themselves. The chassis have space for extra 2.5" drives, plus you could replace the hard drive with an SSD or the optical drive. There are several options that seem to work well. FireWire is just easy, gives you most of the benefit of an SSD, and doesn't require opening the machine.

One of the 21" and one of the 27" that earlier showed "2 to 5 weeks" on amazon.com now shows "In Stock". *sigh*

Stocks are going up and down, they weren't gonna stay at zero. Take home message is, resellers are getting restocked extremely slow, and this could be due to alternative shipment routes, so it's status quo.

Yes poor us that want a new toy, that people in china are getting assaulted :)

My friend said he stopped into the local Apple Store a week ago and was talking with an employee that he wanted to buy a new iMac. Supposedly the employee said to hold off for a month.

My 2009 iMac is slowly dying and I'm trying to hold out for the refresh.
