I think Apple are deliberately delaying the update because they wan't more people to lose patience and switch over to laptop/iPad, lots of people have done just that.

What? He did?

He was asked with all the innovation in tablet/phone hard and software whether people would still need a PC...

Cook: The tablet wouldn't replace all needs for PCs and Macs. What I see is that the tablet, for some people, takes over what their PC was about. And it may extend the purchasing cycle for others. "I want both, but I've got a budget, so I'll buy tablets more often than I buy PC's."

We could argue about how clear that is for some people, but there's a message there to be heeded when looking at the time since the last iMac and Mac Pro updates.

My bet would be that they want people to buy an iPhone, iPad, laptop and a desktop.

There's been a massive amount of people that switched over to a laptop/large monitor or just laptop its happening right now.

The iMac is more for like schools and Mac Pro is for studios.

I think the new Imac 2012 will be here soon, especially now that Intel has given the I7-2600K EOL status. No way Apple keeps selling hardware with an EOL status.

Ive been waiting for months, almost bought an 2011 model.

Well, I've been waiting for the 2012 model since April and I start to think that selling current iMac with such old hardware with the same price is more pathetic on the side of Apple than not releasing an updated iMac 2012. I can even understand that they might have some problems when it comes to the update, but continuing selling old hardware at the same price-point is unacceptable for me.

True, and still we are all waiting for the new 2012 model, and even how much we hate Apple right now for not releasing an update, in the end we all worship Apple like a GOD for their great products.

Guilty as charged. I am that person. But I still need a good desktop with SSD to do most of the heavy lifting. Swapped a late 2007 MBP for a MBA last year and have always ran a mini but the MBA has spoiled me because once you play with SSD you won't be satisfied with HDD. Didn't want to DIY installing SSD in the mini and don't want to have cables running out of the back and sides so patiently (varying degrees thereof) waiting for the new iMac since I sold my mini server in April!!! Much as I love the MBA it can't really handle the very amateurish movie/video rendering I need to do from time to time.

Can i modify my imac 2011 into 2012 model if it is possible please suggest me....

yes. take of the screen, swap CPU, put in SSD. then take out the optical drive. you're gonna need to have some technical knowledge.
if you need to have more powerful GPU you're gonna have to do some soldering so you must acquire blueprint for the motherboard and figure out what to do exactly. oh, you also need to program your own drivers because the GPU you choose won't probably have them, or you can get flashed card.

yes also get hold of new panel which is probably thinner - call this guy called Kuo, he should be able to contact someone in the supply chain, heard they have some lamination issues or whatever that is. next you need to get some dremel and filing tools to sand down the exterior of the iMac to make it thinner. depending on the GPU you chose you might have to cut out a hole on the side so the full size card fits, it's gonna be poking out a little but hey...
also don't forget to utilize USB3 expansion card inside of the machine, maybe you're gonna have to create more openings on the iMac shell, better tool up man!

LOL!! Patience is wearing thin obviously so I ask the following with care as it's off topic somewhat. Are there any externals that people can suggest for allowing a TV feed into an iMac. If it can also double up as some sort of adapter to allow you to plug in a games console, that'd be a (marginal) bonus.

Ive heard about this external device called television :) nah, Elgato Eye TV is popular choice amongst Mac users.
There are boxes from Kanex and Belkin that should be able to feed input into iMacs but have no experience with those.

I' using EyeTV. Works quite well but eats up all your RAM. On the other hand it transforms your iMac into a Toaster. Just put some bread on Top of it, watch an episode bbt and enjoy!:D
But I don't think it's any adapter...

I'm waiting since June for an iMac to jump from Windows to Mac. But i waited because of the Buyer's Guide on MacRumors. It said "Updates soon - dont buy". If Apple doesnt release a new iMac in october I will buy a 2011 model. I will not wait for an iMac coming out in 2013.
Yeah, it's been saying that for about a year or so.

I have to buy a new 27 incher by cob next Thursday 4 Oct. I am setting up a new office in the city and need to leave my 2011 21.5 incher in my home office.

So I'm going to have a 2011 21.5 incher and a 2011 27 incher purchased almost a year apart.

I was hoping the 2012 would be out by now.

My lease of my city office starts next week and I can't not have a computer there.

I've thought about buying a MBA to bridge the time gap but that is just really spending money for no good reason.

We all were.

Maybe look at the refurbished list on the Apple site or check your local Apple shops to see if they are welling off there floor stock, you get the same warranty at a cheaper price. You might be able to do a deal with one of them.

Broken record

I know, its boring

BUT:

Fifth Avenue store is out of both 21" imacs :p this HAS to be a first ^^ Available on oct. 3rd.
