Well it's my 1st post after a couple of years. I am a Mac user (well mostly windows user through Mac) since 2007 and recently sold my white late 2006 imac in order to update it with a new one. It was ok in general for my work (engineer) but graphics card was not supported officially for windows 7 and I couldn't update to the latest osx anymore so I chose to sell it now and get some money before its too late and become just a movie player.

Following apple's releases since 2007 and referring to the new imac date...they are already late and I am guessing/ hoping that a silent update will come during October for various reasons mentioned above. About the updates, its safe to say that ivy bridge, USB 3.0 and a new anti glare screen (no way for a retina) is standard with a possible hard drive (no ssd drive as standard yet) & ram update. I won't expect new design or remove the optical drive (at least for now).

If none of the above happen soon I may buy a dell optiplex 9010 all in one (the screen is keeping me back from not buying it now).

I forgot to mention that stock from the previous imac are getting really low in most Greek electronic stores and out of stock in some of the biggest ones as well.

could it be that apple is waiting to release the ipods the new itunes. imac. mac mini, and ipad mini all together at the same time in october ? mmm seems weird

At least we can exclude those days, isn'it?
By the way if no Imac will raise from Quanta's grave before the 20th of November we will know for sure that no Imac will be out in 2012.
If an Ipad mini will be released when do you expect to see the announcement?

i dont see why they cant be announced the same date like i said before i dont think the would take a whole new event for an ipad mini

At this event they will also show the new iTunes.. so it would makes sense to run it on the new and shiny 2012 iMac ;)

I know you'll hate me (I do hate myself already), but "Thanksgiving extended vacation time" probably means no iMac 2012 ...

I hate to say it but..i had the same feeling..it was like reading,ok guys, this year is done, thanks.
If this will be the case means Apple is living in a real distortion field.

my first post in here and look at this :)

tech.fortune.cnn.com/2012/10/01/rumor-ipad-mini-invitations-set-to-be-mailed-out-oct-10/

Should be possible to promote a new iMac there, hm? :)

gosh, 1 Minute too late ;)

So do you guys think the iMac could be released at this event along with the 13-inch retina MBP and the iPad mini. iTunes 11 could also be released?

I do hope the new displays will be released the same date. Seriously though, if it's not this month then I will be flabbergasted. Let's hope sooner rather than later. I would say it's starting to be ridiculous at this point, but it's already past that point.

New rumor stating Apple will issue invitations to the iPad Mini Event on October 10th - https://www.macrumors.com/2012/10/01/apples-ipad-mini-media-event-invitations-going-out-october-10/

If true, that would imply the event date is the 17th.

Yep, just saw this too.

If the event is on the 17th, I think that's the latest date for our iMacs. If they haven't launched before the event, they'll launch at the event. It would be a bit anticlimatic to do some silent Mac stuff after their last event of the year.

Yeah if no new iMac or retina macbook are released before then they never will be. Maybe still a silent refresh on the 9th before the invitations are sent out on the 10th?

Why would apple not present ipad AND iMac at the same event?

Why would apple not present ipad AND iMac at the same event?

Because traditionally Mac and iOS products have never really been together, but if the iMac has a slight redesign which it will because of the new screen then there is no reason it wont be shown at the event:)

I still find that to be the most likely scenario (though you can't rule out the event itself).

Why would apple not present ipad AND iMac at the same event?

Because Apple never does this. All of their events are streamlined, single-message, orchestrated affairs, usually with some over-arching theme, with the goal of getting the press to all say the same thing at the same time. They will stretch slightly for loosely connected products in the same category (iPhone -> iPod Touch -> iPod Nano). They haven't yet mixed iOS hardware and OS X hardware in the same event.

Fun story but "Always reliable Kuo" wrote they would do product launches with atleast 2 weeks separation in order for them to not conflict. So unless they launch iMacs tomorrow, I think Kuo failed miserably this entire year.

But ye, IMO, there is 10% chance for iMacs tomorrow, 60% for the event or before, and 30% that none of knows wtf is coming or going to happen.

Past dates

Apple had their Back to the Mac event on Oct 20th in 2010. That was the event that had updated Airs and included the first 11" Air. So, dates this month ARE quite possible.
