Are we still talking about computers?

........ yes. Made me laugh on that one. Love your avatar BTW.

The rMBP runs as hot as the standard one. They are meant to run hot that is why they call them notebooks and not laptops. Why would you not want thinner on a mobile device?

For the segment like the Air it should be thin. I don't mind a few extra mm that no one would actually notice for more parts and better cooling on a "pro" labeled machine. Or even a shade wider in the case of the 13" MBP to fit a GPU in there. I would like to see it put to the test actually, make the MBP actually thicker with better cooling and more battery lift (whatever you could fit in there) and I guarantee sales = same. Quality = same as well.

My little Apple diss was more towards the iMac and Mac Pro, I would not be shocked if they were sitting around in engineering thinking how to make it thinner. It doesn't matter since it sits stationary but it will be billed as an awesome feature to keep those prices jacked up if they actually release it.

If Apple sold a $1199 desktop with an i7 and a good GPU and it was like the XPS 8500, it would sell very well and I could see the articles now "Apple re-invents/invigorates desktops"

my 2 cents, dont freak ;)

ADD: Also it is discouraging that if Apple which is the other OS to choose from for the general market decides to rid desktops and only do laptops, well then it is kind of sh**ty we can only use Windows machines basically. Linux does work for a lot of things but I am thinking mass market more here. Wish someone would actually compete with MS instead of them having a free coast. I feel the same about Android. Those OS's are on so many damn devices they get market by default. ( I don't dislike either OS, just stating facts)

Hopefully it's all FUD and Apple re-commits to desktops and the professional markets.

"New Intel Core i5 and i7 processors.

Up to 1.7x faster at the core.
New quad-core Intel Core*i5 processors are standard on the new iMac. Choose a 21.5-inch iMac with a 2.5GHz or 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i5. Or expand your view with a 27-inch iMac featuring a 2.7GHz or 3.1GHz quad-core Intel Core i5. You can even configure iMac with the fastest quad-core processor available — the Intel Core i7. All models use Intel’s recently refined chipsets. That means the new iMac performs nearly twice as fast as the previous generation,1 adding a new dimension of speed to everything you do. And since Mac*OS*X is designed to take advantage of each core, it captures every last bit of performance from the processor."

Surely this is false advertising...

Yes it is,but many people say that common people don't care and so this is right. For me its not,its clearly not true.

Tim Cook said:
I’m incredibly proud of the work we are doing, delivering products that our customers love and dreaming up new ones that will delight them down the road. It’s a wonderful tribute to Steve’s memory and everything he stood for.

God I wanna smack this guy so hard. How the F is it any tribute to Steve if you're neglecting the iMac!?

Unless you're going to unveil it in the next few days ;)

So secretive that every single part of the iphone and ipad is seen way before release, yet they can't even throw us a bone about a long overdue upgrade? Pure disrespect for your customer base. It was bad enough for the Mac Pro, but this in my opinion is even worse, because it is mainstream. I guess we need to make some more noise to get a reaction such as with the masc pro 2013 remark.

Yeah, I'm really starting to develop a dislike of Tim Cook

I am meh on the dude personally. This neglect of Macs was in place with Jobs firmly at the helm. Cook more than likely thinks "How would Steve do this" I am guessing a lot of the hierarchy there are puppet types. Not saying they are dumb, just probably don't use their own thought process as well as they could.

Also Apple has that damn casual market. Sort of a parallel to Nintendo with the Wii; the wii has old hardware and so will the wii U, but the casual market eats their stuff up so they can ignore the hardcore gamer segment. So while it's good for those who own stock it's bad for progress and consumers that want more bang for the buck.

If no one bought Apple anything because they could get it cheaper elsewhere, and this includes iDevices, then on all fronts they would have to compete or die off. Meaning Specs that match Dell systems and the other OEM's, removable memory possibly on the phones, or seeing new iPhones go for $99 bucks with a 2 year soon after release. Mac Pro's seeing updates, and probably a little larger product line, as they got dragged kicking and screaming as they would have to play by the same rules as everyone else.

If they are done with OSX then let us have it please. They can then 100% play with iDevices.

Whoever said Dell and HP don't talk about upgrades: That is true, but they updated long ago. You know like a normal company would.

Can't wait for the soldered on RAM with the thinner iMac BS machine. Some here would do well in prison cause you sure like to take it.

I agree, while Jobs was very steady with his decision he also admits to be wronging sometimes such in case with Mac Men name of the today Imac and his decisions were transmitting..the magic which was worthing to wait, the hype which instead Cook is dissipating with this utter nonsense waiting without any explanation with a plain disrespect for the Pro users, the ones who saved Apple's butt.
Jobs looked at the future and we were looking with him, with Cook we cannot even look at a decent Map.
With desktop users Apple will lose more than just us and those ridicolous fan boys who never raise their sight over the A6 displays will never replace its reputation and reliability.
This must end and Cook must be a real CEO and not an Itoys puppet.
Otherwise this will be the new Imac
The R.I.P. stick Mac.

Oh now it's November?!
It's so funny. In June everybody said July. Then in the middle of July they said August/September. Then in the middle of September they said October. And now November?? No no!
I think it's the fact that nobody of us want it true that there is perhaps no new iMac.
I wanted to jump from Windows to Mac but i think this company gives a s*** about desktop users...

Apple gives you two options:
first: buy what's available
second: buy an other computer

Totally agree! Well written...

Can't agree with everything you say lower down (and an argument needs to be made regards an arms race which will only benefit Intel; I prefer the MacBook Pro cycles where upgrades DO happen regularly but only when there is a tangible benefit to be had compared to the old technology. Lets face it, you are not going 486 to pentium when comparing Ivy to Sandy) but the comment above is absolutely on the money.

Except the tiny fact Ivy Platform brings Usb3.

I'm not going to read too much into this, but...when I watched the tribute video posted to the Apple homepage today, I noticed the very first named product in the video was an audio clip of Steve Jobs talking about the iMac. It seems unconscionable that - especially with all the reverence everyone @ Apple has for Jobs - they would EOL/phase out the iMac.

All this stomping of feet and gnashing of teeth about Apple "abandoning" its core desktop market seems absurd at best. At worst, it makes us look like petulant children throwing a tantrum because we think a multi-billion dollar corporation (and strangely its CEO) somehow "owes" us something. Let's face it - Apple + Tim Cook don't "owe" us anything. We just really (and I'm including myself in this) really really want/need a new iMac and the frustration is driving us a little nuts.
Maybe out of respect to Steve Jobs on this anniversary, we could all try a little more patience and perspective. :apple:*:apple:

They're independent of each other. Just how exactly do you think Apple's supply chain works?

Actually I know quite a bit about logistics (being a logistics manager). At any given time there are only so many ships coming in from the manufacturing regions. If apple are shipping tons of iPhones and iPads above and beyond there normal movements, then this can effect the number of iMacs available. I want the iMac released just as much as the next guy. But having been on this forum all year waiting for a release I've seen stock shortages come and go. It doesn't mean what we all hope for.

How about in respect for Apple's loyal Mac base. Remember, us? The ones that gave Steve the business income to be able to make iToys in the first place. Sorry, I feel like even if they do come out with a great new imac soon, it still is looked at at as an afterthought by Apple these days. Every other product they have is on a 1 year schedule except imacs, minis and Mac Pros. This is all made worse by the high prices they continue to charge for the older tech.

Hello All,

First time poster here (Captain Obvious). I see a lot of anticipation coupled with a generous amount of negativity. Relax, be patient and enjoy your weekend. You'll need your rest for Tuesday ;)

It's deathly quiet on the imac info front. Either there really is nothing to see, or they are doing a much better job of keeping info under wraps on this one. I'm am pretty sure we will see something in the next several weeks, but I still feel overwhelmingly let down by this at this point. There are plenty of us who feel this way. (I'm also waiting impatiently on a mac pro which is even further off obviously and even more disrespected)

How about iMac not being the most attention-grabbing product in Apple's line-ups? Most of the leaks in the iPhone / iPad lately come from accessories makers. It pays to have a case available for the iPhone 5 since day 1, so they pay an insider to leak that info. iMac has barely any accessories that depends on its design, so no one wants to pay to see the machine.

About Apple not owing its user base anything.... well, that would work for Dell, when customer loyalty is next to nothing. Relationship with Apple products are legendary. We won't whine and bitch on this forum if all of us can buy another product in a heart beat. Loyalty is a two-way street and Apple is really straining the faith of its Mac users here.

It is true Ivy from Sandy won't bring amazing leaps. I believe the performance increase was quite minimal. From my view though everything they have at the moment should be upgraded to Ivy with USB 3.0.

I think Apple would benefit from a stretched product line personally. Having up to date specs I believe would push sales. Not obviously iDevice #'s but a nice chunk of change and keep the consumers that want the latest and greatest desktops happy and with them.

Does it matter to the large majority of folks buying PC's? Probably not sadly. They got the Wii crowd. Which is great for their pockets obviously. They could skip Ivy all together pretty much. Haswell is April I believe.
