Earnings report comes out on the 25th. Some previous iMacs were released just after the earnings report. It's a plausible date.

Ahhh yes, 26th, the day windows 8 is released and showcased...attempting to steal Microsoft's thunder by releasing an awesome imac would be a wise strategy IMHO.

with an Apple smart TV/iMac hybrid.
Thats the only reason I could see for delaying iMac to 2013.

Now I understand there are 'licensing' and IP reasons why this hasn't happened BUT similar hurdles existed before the original iPod. If they can be overcome and an iMac system released which allows the iMac to be a living room hybrid allowing Pro computing as well as the ability to take feeds, be it cable or games controllers (I know these already exist but not satisfactory UI allegedly) then it'd be worth waiting to 2013. But I'd like to know about it so I can tie myself over with a Mac mini in the meantime...

So they wouldn't release it before the earnings report would they?

Not at all likely in the next 2 weeks or so then?

But it's not Tuesday :p

So, 29th is a possibility. Although it's just as likely that they release before the earnings report because it would make a good story to tell the analysts about future earnings. Say something like "iMac sales were down year on year because of stock constraints and people waiting on new model. Now the new model is out we predict sales will recover next quarter..."

Expecting a release with the earnings call is as far fetched as saying it will be released tomorrow. There's really no direct link between the earnings call and product releases.
Personally I feel any likely rumors for the iMac has completely vanished for the last weeks and right now I'm not expecting anything anymore.

So with all the speculation ... what are the odds of iMac not even being released this year? What if Apple just releases the revamped iPad and holds off on iMac till next year?

Would Apple actually do that to us?

I'm losing hope too. And there are no refurb iMacs available either...

A little bit of contradiction there huh don't you think. The fact that there are bi refurb iMacs maybe mean they don't have lot of them meaning that they were purposely trying to clear those up. I'm nor giving up hope just because there's no rumors every rumor has said sep-oct and October most likely being the date.

or they are just really good comps and no one wants to sell them lol ;)

Just dropped in again to see the speculations - 1500 posts guessing as to a new iMac release

One could postulate that date by using the average apogee of Jupiter's 3 largest moons coincident with the galactic equator at 12 degrees (or whatever) and be as accurate.

500+ days on the iMac update cycle, Mac Pro vaporware, plenty of cash on hand for engineers - just not a priority sadly.

I wouldn't say "not at all", just more likely after the Earnings call.

They wouldn't likely release it before the Earnings report, since they want each and every individual iMac sold to count within each quarterly report. It's a possibility though.

Read my post again. I didn't say with the earnings call, I said after. There have been iMacs released just after the earnings call in previous years (e.g. 2009). Check the Buyer's guide.

Maybe you are right and maybe not. I hope you are right but as said there's really no new news lately that indicates anything. And apple has regularly earning calls without any products coming with or around them. So my guess is product releases around earning calls are completely random encounters.

You know I looked at closely and it doesn't seem that random to me, especially in 2009 and 2011 there were product updates next day or within a week.

usually within 2 weeks of the actual release, everything will be buzzying from inventory sku # to employee rumors etc..

right now there is nothing.

i doubt imac will be coming out anytime before dec.

Well, a machine that goes back is (supposedly) only sold as a refurb, so if anything it means that no machines are being sent back, or maybe just that they're not being sold on the Italian Apple Store for some reason. Conversely, new machines may indeed be sold as refurb if they are trying to get rid of them, as refurbs will have a lower price. After all, a refurbished machine should look and feel just the same as a new one, so that's a sensible thing to do to purposedly deplete inventory.
What's making me lose hope, but of course I hope I'm wrong, is not just the lack of specific rumors. Someone here (can't remember if it was this thread or another one) bought a 2011 iMac and ran some software to get extra information about it, and the manufacturing date was week 36 of 2012, ie. early September, so they are still building them or at least were doing so a month ago.
Finally, my diminished hope is also caused by personal contingencies: I have some upcoming work and I was really hoping to get a new machine before starting them, but at this point I have to factor in the inconvenience of migrating stuff to the new computer (when and if it is released) in the middle of everything.
I really just wish I had gambled on a refurb months ago, that's all. :)

I´ve decided to wait out through october. I have to buy the machine in 2012, because I need to deduct it from my income.
So, if nothing happens, I´ve pretty much decided to go for the curent iMac with 32gb ram, completely maxed out. It´s going taste bad doing that after all this time. Then if a new imac comes early 2013 and it has something groundbreaking like a lot better screen etc...I´ll just sell the one I buy this year and replace it. It will suck but it would suck even more financially not to put that iMac on this years accounting.

I notice from your sig you have some nice Apples. Don't worry, new shiny ones are coming. It's just a matter of time. I think 2013 is going to be a good year for Mac fans.

yeah i think the imac will never be updated. Apple will continue to produce it for around 4 years and then just stop producing it when the ipad can do pretty much everything that the imac can.

I'm in excactly the same situation. Gotta be purchased this year. I can sense the negativity building amoung our fellow forum members here. I put my faith in the predictions from that K-dude. I know he's not always right, but I'd be surprised if it turns out he makes the massive mistake of predicting an iMac release in 2012 and then be wrong.

I think I'd rather be a little naive and live in hope, than just be a scpetic and say it's not going to happen.

I believe within the next 30 days we will either be able to order a brand new iMac, or we will have a date for it's release (in 2012).:)

He is actually very often right. He stated that the 27 inch wouldn't be ready with the 21 inch, and guessed they might have twin launches. Obviously Apple didn't go for this. So either he was slightly wrong and they will launch them both very soon, or he was completely off the mark and Apple do not even have a 2012 iMac. The latter is pretty improbable considering the low stock on giant 3rd party resellers. Since there are produces from as late as sept. 10th Apple wouldn't stop shipping to resellers if they weren't trying to clear stock.

Ofc, it might be that Kuo was COMPLETELY off mark and there isnt a new iMac at all. Ever. But who really believes this ? Stockholders probably will not ^^ since its actually 30% of their mac sales.
