appleheist have a new guess graphic

I've got an iMac7,1 at work and iMac8,1 at home. At work I've just bought the current MacPro 6 core with the 27" screen, I'll be buying a 27" iMac for home when it is released/refreshed next month. The smaller iMacs just don't have enough screen real-estate. Yes, a 20" or 21.5" display is better than a laptop - but 27" is great for anything work-related from word-processing to video...
(For work I actually tried to buy a Mac Mini but was eventually only allowed to get the hexa-Pro!)

back to the Ming-Chi Kuo sourced Appleheist image from Sept 14th...

No, but that means Kuo was wrong as well.

Not wrong so much as bad at guessing the stuff he doesn't know. What he posted was probably the earliest plausible launch dates for each product based on what he saw in the supply chain. It didn't take a genius to realize that his organization of them was a bit odd, and stuff would probably be shifted around to make more sense.

There's three distinct possibilities left in my mind:
1) Early Oct Big Bang - iPad Mini, 13" rMBP, iMacs
2) Early Oct iPad Mini, Late Oct Macs
3) Early Oct Macs, Late Oct iPad Mini

I find #1 the least probable. Any of them could conceivably happen.

According to the Kuo scheme, nr. 3 should be the one ...

I'd love that to be the case. But the image posted isn't Kuo's; it's another site's (AppleHeist's) more logical interpretation of Kuo's data done in Kuo's chart format.

Option 1 could be a possibility given Gruber's speculation about an educational slant to the announcement. Of course, that would mean (to my mind) reasonably significant enhancements to merit a place in a big event. So, I wouldn't write off option 1 completely.

Im hoping for an october release. Oh and if you ask me, I dont think that they'll re-release the iPad 3 just because of the connector.

Come October's (possible) iPad Mini Event, I think we will be positively surprised! The gap is now passed 500 days since last iMac refresh, and I think there is a great reason for this. I don't think retina is in place -- at least not for the largest version -- but I think Apple relizes they've kept its desktop customers waiting so long, that they will cram any possible upgrade into the next version iMac.

There's a good chance we'll se a smaller Reitna iMac (perhaps 21.5") and this is the reason why I think the next iMac could easily be included as part of an Apple Event.

Either way, I need to buy an iMac by the end of this calendar year (tax year in Norway).

Personally I feel like this is a completely marketing driven decision in anticipation to Microsoft's massive Win8 release. I would be willing to bet they've got all the new products in production and getting ready to go and will wait until MS does their big event.

And honestly I'd do the same thing. Look at the opportunity: Metro is seriously pissing off windows power users. Metro is clearly aimed at the unwashed masses in an attempt to cut into iOS's pie. So you've now got all these people who are professional Windows users that are now seriously considering changing platforms, and the most "desktop-like" experience they are going to get is OSx and they can install Win7 easy as pie and run both.

Apple might capture a healthy exodus with a move like that.

So I am starting to think that tomorrow is a very slim chance.

I think 25th onward is very probably. The 25th makes sense for the earliest possible release because:

1. The ed promo will be over
2. The iPhone "launch" will be over too

Exactly, i think we need to start looking from october on to be honest

Hardly. Apple Stores will be taking reserves for next-day pickup in-store for weeks, and there will be lines of people waiting to pick up their reserve.

I really meant just the first day of it finally being released will be over.

People will be cramming into the Apple Store daily, for months, trying to get their hands on one hoping they just caught a daily delivery.

Meanwhile we can waltz in and acquire our new imacs! :)

Availability of highend 21" and lowend 27 inch just got pushed back in the stores that were out earlyer this morning.

It was at 18-19, now its 20-21.

Amazon.com out of ALL models of the newest iMac with 1-2 months on availabilty on all 4.

Amazon.co.uk: Out of 1 model (1-2 month avail.) and low on 2 of the others (one and nine in stock)

Are apple runing out of stock before they are ready to launch :p?

Not really sure that the stock levels mean much but I sure hope that they do!

UPDATE: the 27" highend that was available on 24th before, now says 25th in 10001 ZIP code.

thit MIGHT mean the 21 and 27" will be launched tomorrow, with the 27" coming next week.

(I am aware of the wishful thinking factor in this equation, but this is weird at the least!

Sometimes this is the only sign up a new product release. ANd this is the main reason of all the frustration here. Stocks have gone up and down more often than a 20$ prostitute in a cheap motel.

With a turnover of 5 days, stocks are pretty good to keep an eye on, ofc they don't grand omnipotence.

Here's my thought on low amazon stock.

iMacs are still selling like gangbusters everywhere, especially for the back to school crowd. Amazon stock gets depleated and apple is too busy with the iPhone 5 to ship more units out. Apple has full availability of iMacs--they figure people ca just come to the apple store/website to buy a Mac.

2013 is the year of Mac pro and iMac. Because what else is apple going to do next year if they don't save anything for 2013?

this made me giggle :)

Apple usually upgrade 90% of their products on a lower than yearly average :) You can check the buyersguide if you wish ^^.

For additional data points, MacMall is completely out of stock and J&R has only low-end 21" (with Spanish keyboard) and low-end 27".

But again, this tells us new models should be arriving shortly, but doesn't exactly give us a date. Or a week.

the wait is killing me. Im still on a mid 2007 24". For its age, its surely a blazing puter, but I want so much more. Come on apple!

The iPad mini and iMac 2012 each don't justify a full-on press conference, and as very different products don't justify one together.

But is there some unexpected twist that WOULD warrant a joint announcement?
Like a touchscreen iMac?

Hey, why not? Considering how many times I go from tapping on my iPad's screen when it's parked in the dock next to my other screens, to unthinkingly tapping on the PC screens with the disappointment of those not responding in kind, why not just add touch ability to the iMac? I'm not saying replace any input method, not saying require using it for any reason, just add another no-brainer no-impact user interface so if the user wants to touch a button on the screen he can.

Introducing that capability WOULD warrant a separate press conference, AND in a context where an iPad bump and iPad mini introduction would make perfect sense.

heads up people are going to want to burn you at the stake for saying anything with touch screen and iMac in the same sentence lol!
