heads up people are going to want to burn you at the stake for saying anything with touch screen and iMac in the same sentence lol!
The iPad mini and iMac 2012 each don't justify a full-on press conference, and as very different products don't justify one together.
But is there some unexpected twist that WOULD warrant a joint announcement?
Like a touchscreen iMac?
Hey, why not? Considering how many times I go from tapping on my iPad's screen when it's parked in the dock next to my other screens, to unthinkingly tapping on the PC screens with the disappointment of those not responding in kind, why not just add touch ability to the iMac? I'm not saying replace any input method, not saying require using it for any reason, just add another no-brainer no-impact user interface so if the user wants to touch a button on the screen he can.
Introducing that capability WOULD warrant a separate press conference, AND in a context where an iPad bump and iPad mini introduction would make perfect sense.
I agree. Touch screen works best on something I can hold in my hands.
Quite unlikely to happen on any desktop using a vertical screen. Here is why:... But is there some unexpected twist that WOULD warrant a joint announcement?

Hey, why not? ....
For additional data points, MacMall is completely out of stock and J&R has only low-end 21" (with Spanish keyboard) and low-end 27".
But again, this tells us new models should be arriving shortly, but doesn't exactly give us a date. Or a week.
Personally I feel like this is a completely marketing driven decision in anticipation to Microsoft's massive Win8 release. I would be willing to bet they've got all the new products in production and getting ready to go and will wait until MS does their big event.
And honestly I'd do the same thing. Look at the opportunity: Metro is seriously pissing off windows power users. Metro is clearly aimed at the unwashed masses in an attempt to cut into iOS's pie. So you've now got all these people who are professional Windows users that are now seriously considering changing platforms, and the most "desktop-like" experience they are going to get is OSx and they can install Win7 easy as pie and run both.
Apple might capture a healthy exodus with a move like that.
Like I said... it could be Apple (for the first time) has a made a huge overestimation of how long their stock would keep up, and arent actually ready to launch yet ^^
Why are people so adamant on this ?
I've got an iMac7,1 at work and iMac8,1 at home. At work I've just bought the current MacPro 6 core with the 27" screen, I'll be buying a 27" iMac for home when it is released/refreshed next month. The smaller iMacs just don't have enough screen real-estate. Yes, a 20" or 21.5" display is better than a laptop - but 27" is great for anything work-related from word-processing to video...
(For work I actually tried to buy a Mac Mini but was eventually only allowed to get the hexa-Pro!)
back to the Ming-Chi Kuo sourced Appleheist image from Sept 14th...
I know it's not gonna be and I know it can sound stupid, so don't start attacking me for my post ... BUT if it was today (as I've learned that Apple loves to show its products on Tuesdays), is there an hour of the day when they usually launch them or is it just fate ?

this wait is killing me! I hope some more concrete date rumors appear soon.![]()

Macrumors should remove the bad language filter at the iMac forum for a while, to et us release some frustration.
It's pretty pathetic that people have waited since the start of the year for an iMac update. I bet you won't even see one in 2012 then you would have wasted 12 months+. Why not just wait for the 2014 update?
You should buy an iMac when you want one and not let false rumours dictate when you make your purchase.
