He should've known better. He gambled with the iMacs and now has to pay the price. I mean, a refresh delay of over 500 days speaks volumes, so why on hell would he risk his reputation on a questionable product.

LOL you guys sound like he owes an explanation or sth. Analysts come and go.

Just for those of you looking forward to buy a new iMac, here are a few facts that can help you wait or save some money.

I recently installed Windows 8 (got it via my MSDN subscription) on my main PC. And I must say that iTunes and the new iCloud Control Panel work very, very nicely in this new OS.

For instance :

- Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams are well implemented, and easily accessible via Explorer. When you are invited to join a new shared Stream a nice popup appears when available or when you click on it.

- iCloud mail, contacts and calendar sync are already functionnal with Outlook 2013 Preview. Everything is more responsive and syncs quicker.

- Direct access to iCloud features : A start menu icon for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Photo Stream, Find my iPhone. You are automatically authenticated (probably thanks to the iCloud control panel), no need to enter your credentials in order to access your data.

- iTunes Home Sharing finally works fine, at least for me. God knows how many users run through Bonjour Service and networking problems with this functionality in Windows 7. OK I just opened one port on the local firewall but that was all.

- It is now FINALLY possible to have your iCloud account on Outlook together with Exchange accounts (great if you already have a company mail account or Live account)

So if a new iMac is not an absolute necessity, it might be a nice alternative while waiting for a refresh. OK, it won't be a Mac but at least your Apple cloud/ecosystem will be available on your computer in a nice way (better than before)

I wouldn't say "not at all", just more likely after the Earnings call.

They wouldn't likely release it before the Earnings report, since they want each and every individual iMac sold to count within each quarterly report. It's a possibility though.

Ummm.. the earnings call covers revenues and expenses through Sep 30. New iMac before then would have no impact on 3rd quarter earnings. Really I think any relationship between the release and the earnings timings is coincidental.

You're quite possibly the first person I've seen give Windows 8 a positive review. Personally I'm scared of it given the every-other-release pattern Microsoft has experienced since at least Windows ME.

Ahh, let's hope it comes before the earnings call then. I would be very pleased if it were released on the 9th, maybe a certain giant brazier could be of help?

Yeah forty2j you're up for this week the 9th. Lets see if your crystal ball is indeed better than mine, because mine is definitely garbage

The best thing we're going to get this week is invites going out to the press for the iPad Mini event.

I know. I'm a strong believer that the iMacs will happen at this event. Yes it's a new product but it's not a new line of products so therefore there isn't too much new plus like I said before I wouldn't think that they would take the whole time just on hone iPad mini. Regardless I hope we get an imac soon and all this wait we've been having is not in vain. That would really suck

Does anybody remember iLife? iMac + Mac Mini + iLife '13 + iWork '13 + iPad Mini as "one more thing" would be a great set for "back to the Mac" themed conference, far more than enough to fill 120 mins.

I know right. But careful some blog writers and some people would think you're the devil or a retard. Seriously it seems like the blog just don't care. I was talking today with one the writers for the loop he was just basically trashing the reason why we still needed desktops. I mean he mention he wanted a Mac Pro and he's waiting for one but the way he was talking about them was kinda like not a single *** is given, I asked him what happens to the pro users how a pro gonna edit 4k video he linked me to a video where someone was testing the MacBook Air with a red rocket card which cost 2k plus the thunderbolt enclosure for like 1k so on top of me paying almost 3k for a biffed up MacBook Air I need to spend 3k more to get it where I want to do and it didn't even preform well. Guys this is the mentality that these blogs are I'm under the impression that we haven't heard any imac news is because people with the ability to ask around (their sources) for the iMacs they just simple don't nor no one bothers to leak out parts because it won't be too much of a big story. This sucks we should all get together soon and write the bloggers saying to please let us in or contact apple like the Mac Pro community did and make it so big that would get a response from apple I just need to. Know what's going on are they gonna update yes or no. Please for the love of *** let us know apple!

I've been thinking along those lines as well. It's hard to imagine filling an entire event just talking about a mini iPad.

Great post! Tech bloggers are too busy wacking off to mobile phones and mobile part leaks!

I remember I thought that iMacs would be released between iPhone and iPad mini giving apple a reason to place it on their main start screen for a short amount of time (since its not a big spotlight product anymore) .If iPad minis comes next week, and apple are now finished with showing the iPhone - Could be they will keep the Jobs tribute until tomorrow, release the iMac with one week in the spotlight before closing in with the iPad mini for the year. Just a thought... Though I'm skeptical :)

One week before iPad is far too short. It Will get cut off and lose sales. Kuo has still a fairly big chance of being right. He said 27" will launch with iPad mini, but maybe both 21 and the 27 will launch with the mini. The twin release vs single launch was a fifty fifty. And if you look at when iPods were ready its VERY easy to believe that Kuos launch was correct, and apple made last minute changes to streamline their launches better. Otherwise they shouldn't have launched the iPods before the iPads when their availability coincide.

So, all my money on the 16/17th for the iPad event. Coincidentally, that is the date I abandon ship and buying a 2011 27". It's ****, but far better than a Fujitsu Siemens that I will otherwise have to buy.

Were the iPods ready so much longer before they were announced?

And did you consider buying a used one from somwhere? I'm currently really thinking about getting a cheap Mac Mini or something off eBay just to sit this one out and then sell it more or less without losses at a later time.

My iMac replacement route

Hey Guys, I've been waiting out for this release to happen! I need a shining new iMac, preferable, new form factor, as in Cinema Display, all SSD, Carbon, High Res, and Ivy. But I am also starting to think, this is NOT going to happen anytime soon.

Lets face it, 524 days since last update, they could have slipped in a Ivy by now, we couldn't be happier. But no, sadly for us, (i)Mac is not the main concern for Apple right now. In order of importance it's iPhone, iPad, MacBooks and then after the iToys it's iMac (do not mention the Pro). So what options do we have? Bassicly it comes down to four:

1 Wait, :(
2 Buy I current iMac, be happy and don't look back (they are are mighty powerful)
3 Go to the evil side, M$
4 Or also very plausible, buy a Screaming Fast MacBook Pro, Cinema Display Combo, best of both world, cost you an arm and a leg though! (there are cheaper monitor solutions BTW)

I am choosing option 1 for now, but after this month I head over to route 4. What about you guys?

Still loving :apple:
Ciao

I personally don't understand why one would buy portable computer with cinema display if what they need/want is a desktop.. ? I'd rather buy the current iMac than getting MBP. Remember, you pay premium for a portable, you get similar specs for lower price in iMac and display along with it. Although the value of current iMac is not good.

Maybe getting refurbished Mac mini Server + Dell Ultrasharp 27" display might be better solution although you're basically on the same price as buying base 27" iMac.

Yeah it sucks, Apple's idea of desktop computing today is having a Macbook attached to Thunderbolt display.

No I mean they were prolly considering launching the ipods at a later time, since they "Launched" them in sept, but they still aren't shipping, and even the iPhone is struggling to keep up.

According to Kuo the iPods would launch in oct. So Apple prolly transformed 3-4 launches into 2 big launches.

First with Iphone, iPods 2nd with iPad + mac. Also there is a good chance an updated iPad 3rd gen is launching along the iPad mini.

Im buying the Mac from a University account, and I have to spend that money now or they'll go obsolete. Im pushing it as it is, and there is no option to buy used hardware, nor refurbished. Windows hardware is limited to Fujitsu, and Mac mini just doesn't cut it performance wise.

It's a sad problem, this first world of mine.
