Apple would never leave a whole year without one iMac update its not like them to do that !

Mostly just rumors from a couple months ago and the recent supply shortages. I cant see the retailers having no stock for much longer. Its either the 16th or 23rd. Most likely 23rd but who knows?

I would wait out october :) Since this is the rumors thats been all along.

This rumor hasn't been "all along". It started after September rumor, that started after August, July, June, May and April respectively.
And I only started to follow this in April!

Maybe we should get a jump on it and start the November rumor? :D

I was hoping for a 24 inch return.

What are the odds based on recent events.

27 is mainly mentioned along with 21.5.

I think it would be absurd for Apple to ditch it's desktop line - here's my reasoning:

To develop iPhone apps, a PC doesn't cut it. (You could go the virtual machine route I suppose but it's just not quite as good.)

iPhone games are getting more and more complex with better graphics and such.

While you can I suppose buy the best Macbook Pro, eventually this won't cut it either. You really need a desktop to do things like 3D modelling, rendering and such. You could I suppose get by with the laptop, but it would not be a good experience.

So for Apple to continue to appease it's developers, it needs a line of powerful computers - IE iMacs and Mac Pros.

Simple application development can be accomplished on Macbooks sure, but if they want people to keep making bleeding edge 3D games for iPhone - and they do, the desktops are essential.

It's not a matter of if but when we are getting an update. Apple is surely not that stupid.

I'm really hoping it's this month. If not I will probably try to Hackintoshize my PC...

A single screen size iMac of 24" size I have always thought would be a best spot in between the 21 and the 27.
I have also said that a 24" Retina wouldn't be as hard on the hardware as a 27" would be.

On a more serious note, how many of you would be waiting an extra month for the Black Friday discounts if it indeed gets released shortly?

I am usually not impressed with the Black Friday sales at Apple. Wouldn't it be an even better value to wait until refurbs are available?

I'm not holding my breath for Black Friday. Apples discounts are usually quite embarrassing.

Lets not start this debate again. A 24 or 27" retina would not be "hard on the hardware" for any of the current GPUs... or even the last 4 generations of imacs. Total pixel-pushing abilities for even the low-end crappy 64 or 128 mb video cards in the bargain bin is a lot higher than you think. I've laid this all out before in painstaking detail at the # of pixels these 8 year old non-high-end cards could push over multiple monitors.

Retina display capabilities, in terms of running the # of pixels, is old news. Its about packing all those pixels into the size and onto one screen that's new to the consumer.

Reports of rMBPs running choppy have to do with software optimization and the OS not using the GPU properly to render what's on screen. If you use the CPU to render a swiping or shrinking effect, it's going to be choppy, particularly where you're using mobile CPUs that scale down the Ghz for power savings and are running at 0.8-1.2 ghz, practically asleep, while you're chilling on your desktop.

Soon some of the people that got a 2011 machine or a MacBook Pro, your gonna see them wishing that all the rumors are false and wishing that the iMac doesn't happen because it'd make their machine an older generation.however the current iMac is a great machine don't get me wrong it's just the price. I just hate when we get little ignorant pricks and they won't let the others be happy and have our moments so they have to start saying oh it ain't happening simply because that's what they want. I already seen a few of these people here. So to them ill say this: we have been waiting for a long long time and there's is a lot of frustration so when we get iMac rumors, please for the love of f* (# let us have our moments and don't come here saying "is not happening" simply because you don't want it to happen. There's a different between being realistic and just straight up ignorant.

End rant.
