Well, that's why the redesign right? If there will be a touch screen, they will make it so that you can adjust the screen level and angle. On top of that, having a touch screen doesn't mean you need to throw away other ways of input such as mouse and keyboard. You just use it when it's necessary. btw, that is how traditional painters did in the past, sticking their arm out to the canvas. Would there be any reason why people nowadays can't do that?

Ugh, the smudges!

Not everyone is in the same boat as you for me as example an iPad is my main machine yes I can't do much on it so I can't use it to hold me back.

Actually we are in the same boat. My iPad 1 is my main machine, with my 7+ year old subnotebook acting as file & iTunes server, and me straining the limits of iOS and making use of other accessible machines when I can't make the tablet do what I want whatever the pain. As such I'm making do; iOS is surprisingly capable if you're creative & flexible.

Got a few pet projects on hold until the 27" iMac lands on my desk. I'm afraid they'll be moot by the time it does...

[shrug] Well, that's kinda the point some of us are harping on: if you don't want to touch a touchscreen iMac, don't. The other input methods will still dominate; touch will be there if you want it.

For a higher priced display that will most likely be passed down to the consumer and that will likely only appeal to graphic and visual designers? No thanks. There is a peripheral for that.

Also doesn't make financial sense for Apple. The demographic is a minority, just like the ODD is, which is seeing itself phase away from the Mac lineup.

It's pretty pathetic that people have waited since the start of the year for an iMac update. I bet you won't even see one in 2012 then you would have wasted 12 months+. Why not just wait for the 2014 update?

You should buy an iMac when you want one and not let false rumours dictate when you make your purchase.

No, it would be pathetic to buy an iMac right now with technology that's 1.5 years old when a refresh is right around the corner that will give you new and better technology for the same price.

You're right, they may not refresh in 2012, but they have refreshed annually for at least the last 5 years so it's very reasonable (albeit possibly incorrect) to expect a 2012 refresh.

You might make the argument that a 2011 iMac would still serve almost everybody's computing needs very well, but it's very possible that Apple will start including an SSD standard with 2012+ iMacs which means the biggest performance improvement for iMacs since they switched to Intel.

Well I guess I am pathetic, because I couldn't wait any longer. Stuff was being delayed and it cannot any longer. Some people need it now, not tomorrow, or October or 2013.....

Fratè, at least with each passing day we get closer to that date. I just hope he is right, or that he's being too pessimistic. It would suck if even Oct 9 is too optimistic and it comes and goes.

And mind you, I _AM_ getting an iPhone 5 when Vodafone IT starts offering it (even if it's a pain*) and, if it's decently priced, even an iPad mini. I just need/want a new decent machine.

* Not only I have to pay a termination fee, but they can't even transfer my current number to a new contract. I have to temporarily move to another carrier, say Wind, and then go back to Vodafone. E che c…!

Going for an unlocked iPhone 5 too and an Ipad mini (if it's cheap enough) : can't believe we've got almost 4/5.000 euros each ready to be spent, but still nothing to buy !!!

Kinda thinking, isn't it like the iphone before when everyone was using flip phone and pressing buttons only? People were using the old style phone just fine no? But then now it's become the majority of people using/wanting touch screen. Apple is charging premium price for that too, and people don't seem to mind paying it.
I don't mean the new Mac needs a touch screen, and I agree it's more for certain demographic. And of course it all depends on what Apple decides is necessary to put into the computer. And then they have a way of convincing people that they need it. Besides that, if you think of renovating, or putting more functions into the computer, touch screen will probably be one of the reasonable and logical choices I think... just my opinion.

As for the smudges go... I wonder what regular iphone and ipod users do to their device? :)

Micro fiber clothe!

I think if they want to do a retina iMac they should make it an option, not a standard. They still have non retina MacBooks. I have no use for retina, and while I would enjoy the picture quality, for my uses I'd rather spend less.
Maybe in a few years when the cost comes down, but I can't imagine what a 27 inch retina iMac would run me. I'd rather put that extra money in to the RAM or storage or ..... the bank.

According to the rumors of three models incl. a postponed high-end-iMac I suppose there will be a Retina Model for a higher amount and the two known 21,5" and 27" ones.
Also I think they'll gonna present them during the iPad mini Event in october Or Even as a silent update only at their webpage.(maybe still in September?)
Whatever, I really Need to upgrade and I've got the money...so gimme my mac!

with something as big as the iMac update and taking so long for them to do it ... I doubt it will be a silent release. That just does not seem like the apple way to do something this big.

I do want them to hurry so I can buy my 27" iMac as well ... I am getting tired of waiting lol

I agree. Touch screen works best on something I can hold in my hands.

yep. it would be quite tiring to hold your hand up while editing things. I prefer resting my arms.

Quite unlikely to happen on any desktop using a vertical screen. Here is why:

Wow....no one's ever heard of an all-in-one with a collapsable stand? Dell and HP have been selling them for a while.

Rumors claim that a low end model is being cut off from production, so I do think that we'll see (hopefully soon) 21.5' Retina (maybe at an affordable price ?) and 27' ... my 2 cents :D

everything sounds like re-hash of other articles already published. the sources are either Kuo or Digitimes article.

if we see credible part leaks or sth from Bloomberg/NY Times then I'll believe it. not sure about Kuo, he's been wrong on dates but right on products - let's see what October brings.

Some rumors sites have actual sources, and some are tea leaf readers who happen to own domains. AppleInsider seems to be the latter. They're not bad at summarizing what's already out there and drawing logical conclusions, but they don't have access to any more information than you or I do.

i disagree with you, because sometimes they do have sources in that case they do have more info that we do. Last year they were one the first to say that the imacs were coming and specifically what date too. We never have such information so you saying that they know just as much as we do is true how ever they do have their ways to getting info that we would never get.

So, unless a press release is forthcoming later today, the predictions that a new iMac would surface on September 19th have about come and gone.

The Apple Store is still up, doesn't look like anything new has been introduced -- not that I would expect it to days prior to the iPhone release.

nothing its gonna happen today, its not gonna happen this month apple is kinda way to busy with the iphone launch so i think they are gonna way till the iphone stuff chills down. So yeah this waiting game its getting really old now. apple is messing with us big time.

Well, your words in TCs ears...I really hope it'll be a Big one! #

from next tuesday and forward I´ll really start expecting something. Probably chances are higher every tuesday from now on.

God I´m fed up!

Next tuesday is a slight chance and then the next tuesday I feel is probably the biggest date. I cant see retailers like Amazon having zero stock for 2 weeks of the iMac?
