Anyone on twitter tried to get a yep from @dalrymple about the thinner design? Could be interesting.

Edit, I think I may have got @dalrymple wrong, not sure what the correct one is :/

I feel compelled to view this particular thread on this particular forum at least once per day.

More so for the comments, arguments and "hope" than for the speculation.

Speaking of speculation... I think the invitations will be sent out tomorrow for the event. Possibly Tuesday. As far as the event itself - with new iMacs - there are only 3 possibilities really.

1. Silent refresh with updated specs without retina.
2. Brand new redesign with retina.
3. Zero new iMacs... which will most certainly indicate they won't be coming in 2012.

I'd prefer #2 - just don't think it's likely the case.
I'm pretty sure there will be a new iMac in 2012 so #3's out.

So I'm going with #1. A refresh/updated new iMac.

The redesign will come in 2013 along side the new Mac Pro.

In the meantime... keep the speculations going.

:)

You missed what I think is the most likely scenario and that is brand new design without retina.

I agree, retina cannot realistically exist in a 27" iMac. Unless Apple are secretly making their own GPUs and secretly they are about 8 times more powerful than the current best GPU out there, this is not realistic lol.

I am guessing thinner with new glass (non reflective). So many things have been pointing to the new glass too.

Glad to hear an iMac launch rumour and component picture , but am a bit worried now that the 13 rMBP, iPad mini & iMac all on the same day!!!!!

Is it possible, the iPad mini is a definite but will one of the other user groups be disappointed yet again?

Rumors said that 27 would have come later after the 21,
maybe this will mean that the 21 will be retina from the beginning
but released with a non retina 27 beside.
Both redesigned but just 21 retina.
What i fear is to see ridicolous gpu instead of
675mx/680 m at least for the 27.
As i said i see/hope this
21 L 650 m
21 H-Retina 670mx

27 L 675mx
27 H 680m

and not a
21 L 650m 512mb
21 H 650m 1GB-Retina

27 L 650m 1GB
27 H 650m 2GB

due to slimmed new design...i mean..this way while reducing the performances for a thinner design will take one day to new I-mac and Ipad to converge in the same product..a very weak-thinner Imac..a very powerful Ipad.

What we really need is a 17" MBP to fill the spectrum of portable computers.

Regarding the IMAC, aesthetic design is a good thing, but in my view, it is better to have a little bit of upgradeability, with the RAM and HardDrive (or SSD).

However, it does seem that Apple has really begun to recognize that sealing devices to make them non-upgradeable (or difficult to upgrade by the end user) is the wave of the future of their products. If their products last a long time (more than 5 years), then maybe this non-upgradability is a less important factor.

I would like to see a spectrum of sizes for a teardrop IMAC, but it seems to me most likely that they will come out with only two sizes (probably 21.5" and 27"), and making the smaller screen retina does not seem too likely, unless it is smaller than 21.5"

as far as I'm concerned, ipad mini and 13" mbp alone isnt worth an event. Mbp, its nothing new, just a different size. Ipad mini, I guess needs an event to tell people what the heck is the reason, convince us we need that also...if not there's nothing groundbreaking here for a event. So releasing a new imac too at the same place isn't crazy imo.

that's exactly what I'm thinking of and hoping for.

but what's about the delayed release of the 27" model? did apple do that on the last imac generation(s) aswell? i couldn't think of one logical reason why this should happen...

Yes, thats could be true but I trust Kuo. No retina for either the 21 nor 27.
So apple had the 21,5 iMac ready for about one month now but was waiting for the 27. It would perfectly match his timeline, he had end of oct for the 27 iMac.
Now apple can both release together. Three new products, iPad mini, 13 rMBP and iMacs + iTunes 11. So they have 4 things to talk about on 23rd - a whole event :)

I hope you're right because rumors ( a little grain of salt taken here :p) say the 21 will be out first and then the 27,but it seems strange for me to see Apple releasing just half line ,maybe they will play with announce-availabilty..,
i mean on 23 they will present the new Imac line sayin the 27 to be available on somewhere in middle November.
One more ,,thought,,if they will give us a hogged Gpu even on 27 (650m:mad:) i hope at least they uncripple the target display mode...

If they dont release the 27" the same way the first didnt release the 13" rMBP I'm gonna start crying. Then I'm back to waiting and waiting.:mad::mad:

My best case scenario for the next iMac.

The 21.5" and 27" remain largely unchanged, maybe a little thinner with Ivy Bridge and new Matte screen option but still include DVD and all current ports on the back.

A new Retina iMac with a new screen size, maybe 23-24" comes into the lineup, thinner but still with user upgradeable RAM and upgradeable SSD, maybe using 2.5 HDD for extra storage, no DVD but all other ports remaining on the back, maybe 1 or 2 USB3 ports on the side for easy access, along with an SD slot. This would be a premium iMac at a higher price than the 27" 'normal' model but the retina will provide a much better DPI.

Isn't the focus of the event going to be iPad Mini (or iPad air) and iBooks. Also by the time they put in some info on the new iTunes I don't think there will be time to discuss the new iMac & 13" Macbook pro.
More likely to see a silent refresh this month and then a big relaunch next year with Retina (but probably still able to buy std screen alongside) on one of te sizes.

Seems some are not reading the signs. 9to5 Mac recently confirmed 13" rMBP for the event. They have hardly never been wrong on these last minute rumors rumors. There will be a rMBP on the event and iMac will get a redesign. Only last thing we need now is a confirmation that the iMac will be released at the same event.

Yep, it's all we need now. Although the signs are good because the chinese leak said that the new RMBP is code named D2 which was confirmed right this morning and he also said the iMac would be announced at the event so I think it's a safe bet to say it will be!

I personally assure you, there will be a new 27' iMac shipping before Christmas 2012 even if it comes slightly later then the 21'.

The big question is, will there be a new Mac Mini on the October 23rd event as well? How likely is it, if there will be another event for 2012 after October?

If tomorrow any silent spec bump won't happen you'll know it will be on 23.
I think that a redesign+retina could deserve the event.
The yep must asked to know if 21 and 27 will be both showed at the same time.
Please YEP!!! on this !!!

I guess that would mean that they will also release updated versions of the current model, just like the MBP.

Mac mini?Could be a silent update and I hope to see a quad one with 625m/645m,maybe will share the same 13retina's hardware,so if the 13 will show at the event i don't see any reason for Apple to keep it outdated.

I wouldn't expect the iMac to have its own event.

I expect it to be part of the presentation, with the iPad Mini front and center, followed by 13" Retina, followed by a blurb for the iMac.

----------

Did you stock up on RAM when Apple went with Notebook RAM over Desktop RAM in their iMacs years ago? Oh...you were trying to make a joke. Funny.

No, I buy the RAM I need, usually 8GB is all I've needed for the last few years. Hard drives are a different story. Completely different story.

Forgive me (and I suspect many others) for not taking your word for it! We've seen too many false dawns and until we see some inventory numbers and pricing lists, nothing is certain. Besides, if 9to5 were so certain the iMac would be part of next week's event, wouldn't they say so and attract more traffic to their site? Look at the number of views for this thread alone!!!

If they can confirm the macbook cant they confirm the imac?

i dont mean to be a jerk but can someone explain me why i keep hearing apple will do or asking for a matte option for this upcoming imac? i think at this point is pretty obvious that its not gonna be a matte screen they are gonna use the same glass and lamination as the retina macbook pro, so why are some people saying matte? Also why are some people saying spec bump only when every rumor say a thinner imac meaning new tweaked design not spec bump only? arent we past this? why are we talking about it? Again am i missing something ?:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:
this is a serious question not in a sarcastic way, i really dont understand can someone explain

This is starting to feel more like the retina MacBook event where we hoped an iMac was coming but with no concrete evidence. We knew everything that would be announced, which is starting to shape up again. An thus far no iMac, yet again.

I am starting to get a bad feeling.
