I agree with those who imagine that Apple may very well merge the two, into a single line of "MacBooks".

The MacBook Pro's days are numbered. While I dread the thought of this happening, the fact is the MacBook Pro's as we know them today will never bring in the high gross profits of iToyz.

More and more Apple customers "buy with their eyes". Meaning they place a higher value on style and looks, than what one can actually do with the computer. A simple example I know all of you have seen, while browsing the forum, is all the dialog about how wonderful the "black bezel" looks that surrounds the display on the glass covered MacBook Pro displays. And how these very same people "hate" the silver and don't want it.

This is contrary to how I use my MacBook Pro, instead of sitting at my desk with it turned off, as I admire the black bezel... I open mine, boot it, and get to work. The bezel could be yellow and I wouldn't hardly notice. It's what's on the screen as I create the work I get paid to do, not how great my computer "looks when it's shut down".

How times have changed....

If that happens I'll baby my 13" MBP. Hmmm, I also dread the thought of this happening too. Time will tell. :(

I just bought a Macbook Pro 15'. If the new macbook pro is introduced at the conference in June, when will it go on sale?

Also, will the prices for the CURRENT macbooks drop, and will they still be available for purchase if the new ones come??

If a new MBP is announced in June, it will probably begin shipping in June. It will probably mmediately available for sale.

The current MBP will stop being sold by Apple. The remaining MBPs in the stock of retailers will probably be sold for a lower price.

100 Pages into this thread and yet we're still just second guessing.

I would literally laugh out loud if Apple don't go forward with a redesign. There are going to be a lot of unhappy fanboys out there if that's the case.

And an equal number of us who would be just as happy with just a spec bump. I really hope there isn't a redesign, the current design is beautiful and changing it to be more like the Air (thinner or even tapered) is just a step backwards in my opinion.

But regarding the 100 pages of guessing -- Why hasn't there been any new rumors out lately? Not necessarily over the redesign, but just anything really...

If posting on this rumors forum bothers you so much don't post or read. No one is forcing you. We're just excited about the new computers and discussing possibilities. Don't be such a kill joy.

They'll certain go to Ivy Bridge, but the rest remains to be seen.

I guess Apple are in no hurry to release their IB offerings as they've no competition - people who want a Mac will buy a Mac - whereas PC laptop manufacturers will lose sales if they dont come to market at the same time as the competition.

And let's face it, the day it's announced the spec on the next redesign starts!

Honestly if they redesign then they should make it as thin or thinner (with the same form factor) than the Razer Blade. If you don't know what that is, google it. They should also make the bezel thinner like the Samsung Series 7 computers. Other than that, I don't think they need to redesign anything. And they definitely shouldn't make it tapered IMO.

He means that even one minute after Apple updates their products, there are going to be people speculating what the next update/release will have and some will even be crazy enough to wait for it.

And I'll be one of them. (Speculating that is. I'll be one of the ones pre-ordering as soon as it hits the online store)

Did you cave and get a 2011 macbook in the end? I'm sure you had 2012 Macbook pro(to buy) in your sig. I'm thinking about it myself...some people seriously underpricing their 2011 macbook pros on ebay etc, tempted to snatch a bargain

I really hope they keep the same design, only a bit thinner and lighter. The Airs look nice, but I think they're almost thin to a fault (and my 11 creaks like crazy). The pros look like solid, clean machines.

To many of you guys...."I find your lack of faith disturbing" -Darth Vader

But on a serious note, I find the lack of rumors disturbing. I really want a new Macbook Pro redesign by the end of 2012. The iPhone 5 has leaks coming out and its rumored to come out in Sept/October! There were so many rumors about x amount of shipments coming in, x amount of 15 inch, x amount of 13 inch, ect. in March, right? And the rumors all concluded to April 24th...but no.

I hope that before WWDC, we can have some clues and leads to the 2012 MBP.
I know alot of you don't care about the redesign and just want a spec bump, but I (among many others) want some redesign. My personal reason? I sold my 2008 Macbook (same design...) after 3 good years of use. I love the design, but I planned on getting something...different. (in terms of Macbooks, of course). Internally, its very different. But externally, I would appreciate SOME change. (Even if its a retina screen, like the iPad 2--> New iPad)

Lets just hope that we will start hearing some rumors in the following weeks.

In conclusion, we can't give up! Who knows what apple has in store? :apple:

Hey guys, just signed up to follow some of these rumors.

I'm hoping to buy the 13" MacBook Pro when the new design is released. Judging by some of the posts I've been reading the last few pages, I think it's safe to assume a June release?

And another side question; I know this was briefly discussed earlier but what's the back to school promotion going to be? I know they used to give away iPod touches but last year switched over to the $100 gift card. Any word on if they're going to continue with the gift card to the iTunes store?

Thanks in advance guys!

If Apple don't have their Macbook Pro out by September then they have shot themselves in a foot a little. If the redesign had been delayed to September, and they aware of this it would have made more sense for them to just do a silent spec bump to IvyBridge the day after they were announced and then delay the redesign to coincide perfectly with Haswell.

I think some people here are underestimating just how huge the 'back to school' promotion, and indeed the time of year is for Apple. Releasing a new Macbook Pro with Retina Display and/or a redesign in June, just in time for the BTS promotion would have a huge impact on their sales.

Keeping the same Pro line throughout the BTS would seriously limit profits in contrast to getting it out in June.

I still think we will see a new Macbook Pro in June, whether it's announced at WWDC or not. The delay to dual core chips with Ivybridge is the most significant stumbling block. I wouldn't read into lack of rumours.

Edit: Yes there have been no leaked parts, but lets remember that the Mac division has no huge public pressure and opinion behind it in contrast to iOS devices. And furthermore, this is just my own speculation; but could we just be looking at the exact same Macbook Pro design but with retina display, would a retina display screen look completely different for a source to realise it is a 'leaked' MBP part?

I can seriously see the exact same design with Retina Display (the battery life for retina is my main reasoning here), and maybe the ODD removed to be replaced with two Hard Drive bays. Whether they will include a small boot SSD as default, I am yet to be convinced.

I'm not surprised by the lack of leaks. After the scandals involving the iPhone 4 and the 4S, Apple was expected to become even more secretive about their pre-released products. We just have to wait and see!

Well, they were not very secretive about the new ipad. I wouldn't be surprised if there was no radical change in the new macbook pro.

It's quite sad how I've had money saved up to buy the new Pro since summer 2011 and decided to wait for the 2012 redesign. And now I don't have that money anymore.

i think most likely just remove the optical drive like mac-mini... since apple believes in digital copy and seems like going that direction with app store for everything.... i guess without optical drive would shave away 100gms?

2007 - June 5th
2008 - June 3rd
2009 - May 27th
2010 - May 25th
2011 - June 16th

I know that's not what you asked but that's the back to school promo start dates for the last few years. As far as I know we don't get details on what it is going to be until the day or day before. I don't think Apple will change back to the iPod as they are less popular these days and they want to get people using the Mac App Store.

Also if the back to school promo is announced before the new MBPs are available, they should still be eligible if they do get released before the promo ends.
