well, I just returned my beautiful 15' mbp :(. back to the pc for now.. I just want to make sure, there is a new OS (mountain lion) coming out late summer, right? IF rumors are true, and it comes in june, will the new macbook have this software?

and @Stetrain - for refurbished mac's, how long did previous buyers use them? <14 days?

No one knows that.. The new Macbook is likely to be presented during the WWDC in June, but the new OSX is due 'this summer'.

If it doesn't have Mountain Lion then you should still be eligible for a free upgrade when it comes out I think

I'm surprised no-one (including my-self) has mentioned 802.11ac yet!

Personally I would LOVE gigabit wireless, fast wireless file transfer is one thing, but finally being able to stream uncompressed blu-ray rips throughout my house would be amazing.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if Apple is the very first brand to introduce it. They were ahead of the curve with 802.11n and still one of the only brands who use dual-band wireless cards.

With Qualcomm already producing 802.11ac i'm proposing it will be a major new feature in the 2012 MBP!

Bring on 802.11ac!!! :):):):)

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about it as well :D
That would be great especially with AirDrop.

The main thing Im excited about is usb 3.0 and that is a good thing for previous apple computers as well(especially 2011 models), beacause this will add native usb 3.0 support to OS X. This will lead to a higher possibilty of TB to USB 3.0 hubs etc. So we may finally see more Thunderbolt hubs etc.

They have actually...

If they add 802.11ac and/or a usb3/thunderbolt ethernet adaptor then there is no need to keep ethernet for the minority that use it

If they add 802.11ac I won't be so sad

IMO, likelihoods on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the most likely:

Physical redesign with next refresh: 7

If there's a redesign,

Ivy Bridge: 10
New generation discrete graphics (HD 77X0M/GTX 6X0M): 10
USB 3.0: 9
Thunderbolt: 10
Slimmer and lighter: 8
ODD dropped: 7
Ethernet dropped: 5
FireWire dropped: 5
SDXC slot dropped: 1
Higher standard resolutions: 10
Retina displays (double current resolution): 4
All SSD standard: 5
Better battery life: 7
No more glass over glossy screen: 5
Soldered RAM: 3
Even bigger trackpad: 5
802.11ac Wi-Fi: 6

Will there be an 8-Core MacBook Pro?

Since Ivy Bridge will come out, that features a 3D transistor and a smaller nanometer technology, is there a possibility that there will be an 8-Core MacBook Pro? If it will happen, how much faster will it be compared to the current generation?

No

Intel could easily deliver an 8-core processor but most developers cannot deliver solid performance across Quad core computers so more cores leads to diminishing returns in most things other than compression tools.

If Apple releases new macbook pro in WWDC2012, then when can we buy it generally?

My guess would be that they'll be available immediately as it will be about 6 weeks since Intel launched the chips.

One benefit of the long wait is that RAM and SSD prices are tumbling so if it isn't until WWDC that they are launched the cost of upgrading to 16GB and an SSD should be even cheaper than it is now.

I decided back in January to get a new MBP but I didn't get one then as the rumours at the time were for a Feb launch. A 16GB RAM u/g is now less than a third the price it was in January and if the trend continues - and it's looking like it will - by June they could be a quarter, or less, than the January price :)

An Observation! With all I have read about the upcoming WWDC in June, I have concluded that it will be extended into a second week. I do not know how they will be able to announce a new line of MBP's, updates to the MBA, new iMac's, new Mac Pro, new iPhone, Apple TV, Mountain Lion, iOS 6, updated iWorks, mini iPad -- and who knows what else, but I am sure I must be missing something! We shall see and I am sure hear more -- stay tuned. June is still a few weeks away.

No offense, but i doubt that even half of these things will be announced at WWDC. Wasn't the Apple TV just given a refresh about a month or two back? Also the mini Ipad is just a rumor, and the Iphone 5 or whatever it may be called will probably only be released around October and will have its own event just like the 4S did.

My comments were not to be taken seriously. Almost a day does not pass without someone writing about an Apple product that will be seen or discussed soon. My sense is that rumors about Apple products continue to fill print and internet space. Don't get me wrong. I have my share of Apple products and have so since 1985. I am an Apple supporter and proponent. I, too, need to update my MBP. Though I must laugh at all the articles that seem to come out of thin air. Note I said articles. Many of us have our wishes. Many of us would like to see see the wait times decrease. I guess we should not always take ourselves too seriously.

I don't think there will be a mini iPad, apple tv, or new iPhone at wwdc. Also, I highly doubt the Air's getting updated. Just the MacBook pros, iMac, iOS 6 and Mountain lion;) at least I hope....

Well I kinda gave in today. Bought a used 2011 MacBook air (US Keyboard) off gumtree for a smashing price of £450, still has warranty till December this year!

This will tie me over till the end of September once University starts and hopefully then, if there aren't any problems with the redesign, I'll get the 15".

It was fun being a part of this thread, but now I think I'm just gonna check it once every few days instead of every few hours.

God Speed.

:apple:

Lol good on you man. This potential redesign is becoming a cause of stress for me, and usually I'm not one of those people obsessing over technology either! But I still find myself coming to this forum every few hours. Damn you Apple! *shakes fists*

I almost did the same thing or something like that. I was in Germany for last few days and there were pretty cheap Macbook Pro, I almost bought it before I realised that it has german keyboard. So it looks like I'll be here for a while

Again, my bets are on WWDC for all of this, unless we see something beforehand, like a silent refresh during May. I will be worried though if there is no new MacBook Pro update after WWDC. That will mean Apple is waiting until October for "Back to Mac" event, type of thing.

Well, if it is not coming out by then I will look at Lenovo for my new Laptop. Easy as that.

Already waited for 3 months for this thing to come out. And in the end its is just some piece of electronic that gets the thing done...

I'm not sure if there is any difference between a US and UK keyboard on a Mac. the usual difference on a PC is that the ' " ' and ' @ ' are reversed but on a Mac they're US-style in the UK (' @' is Shift-2).

Are there any other differences?
