if the "pro" is for the audio/video/photo professional.. then I'm sorry SSD only would be a major drawback for me...

although i naturally feel inclined to go with the bloomberg article (given that it's probably the most reliable source that has come out with an article today regarding the 2012 pro), i'm a bit skeptical...the bloomberg article seems to be the only article published today that suggests that flash memory will be incorporated in the design. although i really want to believe it, i haven't seen it anywhere else. thoughts?

The pro is for any professional. Professional means professional, not audio/video/photo editor.

No the "pro" is a word designed to appeal to immature and ignorant buyers who love the idea of calling themselves a pro. It's not the machine that makes it a pro tool. It's the person using it and the tasks it being used for. I can use a 5 year old crappy Dell for professional applications from which I make a living and using that logic, consider my crappy old computer a professional computer.

Having the word pro means nothing. Get that garbage out of your head.

so chances are they are only going to release the 15' at first? How far out would they roll out the 13'?

I think that all three macbook pros (including 13in) will be released at WWDC since the ultrabooks carrying windows platform are set to be released at the beginning of june. Unless they decide to release some of the macbook pros before WWDC

Sorry if this has been posted but this rumored release date should include the 13" MBP's as well, right? I'm new here but I have read that the dual core Ivy Bridge should be released in June, which should coincide with the release.

And again, I know this is a rumor, but hypothetically speaking, would the 13" MBP's have retina display as well?

Finally some real rumors! I was beginning to lose my hope after not having any of them in the past month. But now we may be (almost) sure that Apple will release new MacBook Pros in June, following the release of mobile Ivy Bridge processors. The redesigned MacBook Pros will be thinner, will have retina displays and SSDs. Just as I predicted some posts ago. I should have bet money on it...

Well, what I was thinking is the Macbook Air 13 might take over the Macbook Pro 13 slot...

So then you agree with me.....All I was trying to say is that the word professional can mean ANYTHING....

So can someone please clear up for me what's happening with this new mock up thinner MBP?
  • Are we going to be able to have a SSD and HD at the same time or only one?
  • Is it going to be released when they announce it or will they give us a week or two to pre-order and stuff.
  • Do MBP get sold out super fast like the iPhone/iPad when they're announced or what?
  • Is the price going to stay the same?

Nobody knows.*

Probably released soon after. I don't think they usually do pre-orders on Macs.

Generally not. New Macs generally don't generate so much demand right at release. Not sure I've ever seen a line at an Apple store for new Mac hardware.

  • Is the price going to stay the same?

Nobody knows.*

This is also the first major (design wise) change since the Macbook Air moved down into the low-$1000 price range, so it's really anyone's guess.

*Outside of Apple and Foxconn that is.

1. Probably just one at the same time. It is possible to have the two of them, but if Apple intends to have thinner laptops, the trend is towards having only one of them.

2. It will be released when it is announced, or shortly after. It doesn't make sense to keep the old MacBook Pro on sale after they announce the new one.

3. MacBook Pros don't get sold out so fast. They're much more expensive. iPads sell 3x more than all Macs combined.

4. Probably. Perhaps a little lower, but within the same price range. There's not much room for increasing the price, considering that the low-end 15" MacBook Pro sells for a whopping US$ 1,799. If they drop the 13" model (keeping the 13" MacBook Air as the only 13" laptop), prices of the 15" may go down a little.

- maybe both, maybe not. No one knows!
- I would expect about a week between announcement and availability
- it's usually not a problem, but who knows how crazy people are these days
- maybe. I don't expect it to go up. Apple has learned that cheap stuff made and sold in large quantities brings more profit!

All these rumors are really making me excited for WWDC. One thing I wish a rumor would mention, though, is switching over from TN to IPS displays along with the Retina Display. That would be awesome!

To all you people whining about not having a HDD but a SSD, there are external drives that are super fast(USB 3). Just beacause you need the room doesn't mean we all do.
