I would also add that if Apple put a GTX 670m into it's laptops I would eat my imaginary hat!! The machine would then not be that thin unless they have re-invented cooling of GPU's or something.

I don't understand a lot about hardware, but i can assure you that those mobile gpus are ready for that.
And who knows what Apple is planing? I would prefer very much the radeon 7970 instead!
I only have 8 Gb's left of room on my 2009 MBP, so I'm ready for 3 weeks from today. I wouldn't mind SSD but I need at least 500GB so yeah that's not going to happen. My MBP has a 350Gb hard drive in it and I replaced it with a 500GB hard drive at Fry's and it overheated my whole laptop, almost $400 to fix it, so for the newbies out there I just wouldn't do that at all. Also I'm selling this MBP in 3 weeks so look for me on Dallas Craig's List.
A friend of mine who works at an Apple store told me that the new pros would BE awesome!
The retina display is gorgeous and its new chassis is very solid!
Also, the 13 inch is coming with nvidia gt 650m, while the 15 with gt 670m, with 2 and 3 gb vram.
The battery time has increased with the ssds, staying on on average usage for about 10 hours.
Can't wait!
i was running it on the last i7 17" mbp but without ssd. (i said "was" because i have sold it and i am waiting for the new one ).
You run it slow mainly for one reason: only 2gb of ram, upgrade your ram to 4 or 8 gb and you will see a great improvement, expecially with applications like parallels.
Obviously it would run (expecially start) faster on an ssd, but with only 2gb of ram you would see a much better improvement upgrading the ram. i am sure of it because my brother is running parallels+xp+office 2010 on a 2009 mbp with 4gb of ram. to be sure install a widget like "istat pro" (it is free) and you will see how much ram you are using.
ah, i was using paralles 7 with windows xp and office 2010... i used to edit documents that were in the mac os dropbox folder.

Obviously, I can't guarantee that he was telling me the truth...
I'm just sharing the info i got.
Sorry!
Having only 2 GB of RAM certainly contributes to this reduced performance. However, I monitor memory usage very closely and I noticed that even when I was using much less than 2 GB (512 GB or less for the virtual machine), the performance of both Mac OS and Windows was poor. I suspect that the main reason for this was the slow HDD speeds. Both systems run at the same time on a 5,400 RPM HD, so performance would suffer...
I used to think I had plenty of RAM when I had 2GB because I'd still have a lot free in activity monitor, but now I have 4GB I'm always using much more than 2GB even with just light usage.
I predict new macbook pros by May 29th...
Those interested in running windows on mbp/air to use a microsoft office program. Use openoffice.org (available for macs & windows)
This is a good program for word documents and spreadsheets...plus it's free.
4GB isn't enough for me on Snow Leopard. I'd be scared to see that RAM hog Lion.
I can't afford a 17" MBP. I live in Brazil and this laptop costs about US$ 5,000 here (yes, it's very expensive due to the incredibly high taxes charged by the Brazilian government). So I'll probably have to do with a 13" or a 15" MBP, dependind on the price. Hopefully, the new 13" and 15" will be significantly faster than the current generation.
How's the performance of Parallels running Windows 7, do you have any idea?

DANGIT. looks like I might need to order one before the new ones come out. I'm not sure if I'm even excited about these new MBP's coming out
I'm sorry but this makes zero sense - Apple is not going to just randomly release new MacBooks when WWDC is in a week. They will hold a press event (which will be the keynote speech at WWDC).

You know where you friend who works at an Apple store gets his information on upcoming Apple products? I'll give you a hint, you're on one of the sites right now.
Apple wont have so much time in wwdc To announce so many products, hardware and software!
I think we ll still see the new MacBook pro in May!
Why would you need to order before the new ones come out? If the new ones come out and you don't like the features/options, get a 2011 model then. You can either buy one at a decent discount from Apple's own Certified Refurbished section or from a reseller like Amazon or MacMall who will probably have pretty good discounts as well.
With 2GB of RAM, I can guarantee you that RAM is the bottleneck. I suggest 8GB of RAM if you use Parallels often. Monitoring your RAM doesn't always help with Mac OS X, since its RAM usage scales with how much free RAM you have.
About your hard drive, I think it's fine for Parallels. While using SSD would speed up your virtual machine's boot time, the performance issues you're having are surely because of RAM.

?? Have you even noticed Apple's history with product releases, especially redesigns? They don't just randomly update the website, they send out press invitation a week or so before, and they definitely don't have press events the week before WWDC.
