I reckon the absolute earliest time to get the new MBP's will be 12th/13th June... For example it gets revealed on 11th and gets put on the site for sale straight away

Me too.

By the way, where are the new iMacs? It's been 384 days since Apple last refreshed the iMac. And the new desktop Ivy Bridge processors and mobile AMD video cards are already out. I can understand that the new MacBook Pros and Airs were not released yet because no dual core Ivy Bridge mobile processors have been released yet... but what about the iMac? What is Apple waiting for?

----------

In Oct. 2008 Apple released the Macbook Pro with the unibody design and there was no press release. The last macbook pro released at WWDC was June 2009 but that does not mean history will repeat.

It was not a press release, it was a media event when Apple released the unibody MacBook line. Look here: https://www.macrumors.com/2008/10/09/apple-invites-media-to-notebook-event-october-14th/

Only time will tell when the new Macbook pro will be released...I am sticking with my prediction by Tues, May 29th....

There was a media event dedicated to the redesign with invites sent out a week before.

They still sent out press invites the week before ( https://www.macrumors.com/2008/10/09/apple-invites-media-to-notebook-event-october-14th/ )and why would they hold a press release when they are already having press at WWDC the next week? I could see your point if it was October or November but it doesn't make sense late May.

Well, 8 GB of RAM is definitely not an option for me when I finally buy a MacBook Pro. An additional 4 GB of RAM costs no less than a whooping US$ 400 at the online Apple Store here in Brazil. I'll have to stick with 4 GB of RAM unless Apple chooses to upgrade RAM in the redesigned MacBook Pro, or lower the price (and I don't believe any of these will happen). Will 4 GB of RAM be enough for running Mountain Lion with a HiDPI resolution and Parallels with Windows 7 (or Windows 8)?

Well, I don't know. A 5,400 RPM hard drive is definitely not fast. And running two operating systems at the same time will require nearly double the reading/writing that one OS would require. I guess an SSD would make a huge difference. How is the performance of Parallels in a MacBook Air? Is it any better than in a MacBook Pro with a HD?

Well RAM upgrades from Apple are always overpriced. I would look at alternative options from other stores. I checked quickly for compatible RAM from Brazilian resellers and it looks like you could have 2 sticks of 4GB DDR3-1333MHz RAM for as low as R$ 131 (USD $64) plus shipping, which is pretty good.

I currently use Parallels with my MBA with 4GB of RAM, and used to do it with my 15" MBP with 4GB of RAM as well. 4GB is fine 90% of the time for me, but I do have some occasional page outs while running Parallels. SSD helps a lot with the booting of the virtual machine, but usually I'm not reading/writing on SSD with both OS at the same time. While I'm on Windows in full screen and Mac OS X is idle in the background, it doesn't read/write anything on my SSD, nor use any considerable CPU cycle, it just eats up RAM.

But may I put any memory inside the MacBook? And what if the new redesign doesn't allow these kind of do-it-by-yourself upgrades?

Oh I'm sure the new laptops will have removable bottoms! Don't worry, but if you are going to buy a new laptop then don't waste money on memory now as it won't work with the new machines, or at least penalise performance.

And I use Crucial, others Kingston, OCZ I think? Good big name brands, they are priced competitively and WAY cheaper then Apple.

I don't know, my dad bought an 2011 27 inch iMac last September and it runs really good...but yeah beats me

There is no solid proof currently that the macbook pro will be released at the WWDC just rumors...

True. Just rumors. But we know for sure at this point that new MacBooks with Retina Displays are coming, sooner or later, and rather sooner than later. It's probably going to be in June, but, if it's not June, it'll be July or August. Mac OS X Lion already support these displays, they're reportely available for suppliers, Intel has already announced that Ivy Bridge chips do support them, Microsoft announced that Windows 8 will support them, and it's just a matter of time before PC makers start to announce laptops with ultra-high resolution displays, so Apple should hurry before someone else takes the lead this time...

Bloomberg confirmed it. That's pretty much the most solid proof we can get until they actually announce it, since more often then not Bloomberg's information are controlled leaks coming directly from Apple at strategic dates.

Bloomberg's confirmations have pretty much 100% accuracy and include:
- September launch for the iPhone 4S
- March launch for the new iPad
- Retina Display and LTE in the new iPad
- AAPL dividends for investors
- White iPhone 4 at the end of April
- Apple TV 2 on September 1st

Just to name a few.

I'm pretty sure even product spy shots have been proven to be less accurate than Bloomberg's confirmations.

We're not sure about the accuracy of 9to5Mac claims, but Bloomberg's can almost be taken as facts.

Bloomberg's report confirmed:
- Announcement on June 11th at WWDC.
- High resolution displays
- Flash memory (didn't mention if 100% SSD or just for caching)
- Slimmer than current models
- Has Ivy Bridge

Joanna Stern (ABC News / The Verge), also pretty reliable confirmed:
- Very high resolution display
- Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics

The rest comes from 9to5Mac and we're not sure if it's reliable or not:
- Removal of ethernet port
- Removal of FireWire port
- Two Thunderbolt ports
- Samsung 830 SSD

I personally don't take 9to5Mac's rumors as facts, especially given that they claim the new MBP will have two 3.5 audio ports (input and output) and evidence in the Mountain Lion Developer Preview show it will actually have a single combined port: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1370959/.

It's getting close I can't bear waiting for a new iPhone 5 and a 15 inch MacBook pro. However if the MacBook does not show its face at WWDC conference when would it be released and I assume if Tim cook does not announce it, it wouldn't have those rumored features we are all talking about in the latter.

I'd bet on the same display as the MacBook Air. It's glossy, but has an anti-reflective coating. It looks great. I never really griped about the glass reflections on the MBP, but now that I have an Air I couldn't go back.

If you look at it with the screen off, you can see the greenish reflections of light. Once the screen is on, all the light transmits and there is very little distraction from reflections on the glossy screen.

There is nothing that will totally eliminate glare, not even a matte display. There is still some distortion from direct light. The AR coating allows for a glossy screen that achieves nearly 100% light transmittance. There is no distortion from the matte finish and because all the light gets through, you can run your display at a lower brightness level. This extends your battery life between charges and the life of the display.

If they use something like Nokia's Clearblack, maybe we won't specialized matte antiglare displays… since the glossy displays won't have glare either!

No Macbook Pro part leaks, No June release?

Well, MacRumors has been very quiet when it comes to parts leaking for the June release of a Macbook. What is everyone's thoughts?

I hope Apple doesn't check on here and say, oh there aren't enough rumors going about, let's not release the new MBP's. ;)

haha, I am sure they may look at the front page, but I bet they aren't snooping too deep into these forums. At least lets hope not. I just want a new MBP! Mine is so sloowwww. :D

No june release? :(

Oh well, i'll just have to buy my MBP now for full price. Maybe I should also buy Apple ram for full price also since i'm an idiot :)

I'm not a big fan of either diffusion layers or reflective glass panels and I praying for better solutions. I hope they can use proper treatment for a plastic surface to minimize reflections at no cost. Otherwise it's better to have a semi-glossy screen a-la Air. But I'm not even expecting them to change anything here, so let's just hope that AG version wouldn't be gone.

If it isn't launched at WWDC (either by Tim Cook or other staff from Apple, honestly for me it doesn't matter who announces it and how, but WHEN) then it won't have new features or changes  (perhaps later).

Bloomberg won't risk its reputation (as other sites) announcing such an huge upgrade without having a very, very reliable source.

Keeping the launching date a secret is a well known and good practice from Apple (as well as other companies).

Announcing at this stage a press event before or after WWDC would be a clear sign to the market and consequently the current line sales volume would drop.

Such Polarizer based stuff has another great quality. You can use special sunglasses. That let the light from the screen pass almost unhindered and block most of the rest.
Pretty great for outdoor use in the sun.

I think the Nokia also has some AG AR on top because the polarizer cannot really work for reflections that bounce of the top most level.

I don't know how it all affects power consumption but such a solution would be way better than the whole other nonsense.
A glossy display with AR coating is much better than a ultra reflective glass but it is still pretty poor compared to stuff with at least some weak matte.
AR only reduces the reflection brightens but not their contrast. If you reduce brightness and diffuse their contrast you get zero visible reflections until the reflected stuff is extremely bright.

I really hope 1440x900 isn't the only resolution being pixel doubled on the 15". I don't really want to have to buy a 17"

When I bought my 15" unibody late 2008 there was no 1680x1050 resolution available. As I defintely want some more 'screen estate' with this refresh, I was having the same worries as cmChimera about the upcoming 15" retina display.

After reading about Apple's recent patent filing for a Retina-ready resolution-independent OS X, I think they won't 'pixel-double' the 1680x1050 resolution, but that won't matter.

The current options are:
13" 1280x800 - 113 pixels per inch
15" 1440x900 - 110ppi
15" 1680x1050 - 129ppi
17" 1920x1200 - 132ppi

I think the Macbook Pro's retina displays will all be around 230ppi:
13" 2560x1600 - 226ppi (1280x800 x2)
15" 2880x1800 - 220ppi (1440x900 x2)
17" 3360x2100 - 239ppi (1680x1200 x2, so no doubling of the current resolution)

With this kind of pixel density we'll have sharpness to spare and OS X will provide some 'screen modes' to choose from. That way you can trade some of that ultimate sharpness for more screen estate. As the filing explains, Apple found a way to do this without sacrificing crisp borders of GUI objects.

For the 17" these screen modes would allow for the same screen estate without doubling the current resolution what makes it easier to preserve graphic performance.

I have these visions of the staff canteen at Cupertino filled with Apple staff at lunchtime avidly trawling through MacRumors and the like with endless howls of laughter, "they think we're going to put what in them??? - Muwhahahaha"
