Is it me but is this wait for WWDC seem like its far away, for me down under its like nearly 13 days, I am also so anxious to hear news on the iPhone 5 aka iPhone 5G and the new MacBook that I am obsessively checking these forums in a hope for something more concrete.

I only hope we see news of a new MacBook at WWDC to make it worth the wait.

I am sure it's worth to wait :)

Well, I hope we all get to see a serious update! :D

I've been sticking with my 09 iMac for a while now waiting for a new MBP. Held out last year. Now I think is the time to pull the trigger.

I'll never forget my first Mac, a Titanium G4 powerbook. I want that feeling again! :apple:

That has to do with apple revamping their stores for better security I think.

Yeah your probably right, either that or they're simply changing the layout, it was a far fetched claim anyway, haha.

Why the heck would they close the store for an entire day to place computers around the store? It could be done in 30 minutes before the store opens. Get your speculative hiney out of here naw saying' sayin'?

Its closed for more than one day, so they're obviously rearranging the layout, which could mean preparation for new products in the coming week, it was a far fetched claim anyway, but this entire thread is based upon speculation so you get youself outta' here promptly.

Do you guys think the retina will come standard in at least the 13" and 15" models? Some people in forums have said it may be a premium add on, but it is not for the iPhone or iPad so why start now?

It will definitely not be a paid add-on, if a 'retina' display is added Apple will want to show it off as a new feature to persuade people to buy the new MBP.

Agreed. Apple has this general trend going of "unification" and "simplification". With a feature like high resolution displays, it seems indicative that Apple will make each and every macbook have the feature by default.

Less confusion to the consumer, bigger quantities purchased for the Apple.

I'm anxious to see the new features of the MBP..

My boss has been pestering me to order a laptop for work, and I've been holding him off as long as possible for the new MBP's to come out.

My hope is that it's just lighter and packs an SSD... Maybe a $100 price drop too :D

Sounds right to me too, glad I'm not the only one who agrees. I don't know why some are saying otherwise.

Now onto the price!!! I know it has all been discussed but now that time has passed what is everyones thoughts on the price (specifically the 13" model). Some have said on here everything from a price increase to a price drop?

I expect the price to stay the same. They've established price points that work well from a profit maximizing point of view.

My only concern is the price of a decently spec'd MacBook. If the 13" only comes with 4gb of ram and a 120gb SSD, it'll need some upgrades to satisfy my needs. Upgrades that Apple is notorious for overcharging for.

I don't know whether Apple will allow ram to be user upgradable, but I sure hope so. I also secretly wish apple would include an OS SSD and a data HDD... although it doesn't seem very likely :/

WWDC is most likely the event, although, as always, its never known until the actual day. I was going back into the Archives and trying to identity patterns (although their not 100% reliable) and see when Intel releases new processors and when Apple completely redesigns Macs. I also took into account resent patterns with other devices such as iPhones and iPods.

I doubt they are axing user upgradeability. It would not be a smart move. Apple sells overpriced hardware, and everybody knows it, so it's a redeeming quality that they allow you to atleast upgrade RAM and HDD yourself.

Really hoping this update happens at WWDC, purchased a macbook pro and now taken it back in hopes of an update.

Apple's BTO prices for hard drive space and RAM are outrageous. They're more than just overpriced - they're so ridiculously beyond what other laptop makers charge for BTO options, they should be ashamed.

What's amazing is that their RAM and HD UPGRADE prices are actually much higher than the prices for the STAND-ALONE RETAIL parts. For example, upgrade from a 320GB HD to a 500GB HD with Lenovo or Dell or Sony or whoever and you end up paying mostly the difference in the price of a 320GB OEM HD vs a 500GB OEM HD. Apple, OTOH, POCKETS the savings they get from not including the 320GB HD, and then charges you the cost of 500GB fancy-box RETAIL HD, complete with Seagate's/WD's/Toshiba's 3 year retail warranty (which of course the Apple-provided HD DOESN'T have). Nice!

I've always ordered my macs with minimal RAM and HD space, and then replaced them with OEM parts that I buy locally. And even though I'm basically wasting the included RAM and HD, it's STILL cheaper than ordering the appropriate size RAM and HD from Apple!

If I can't put my own RAM and HD into the MBP, and they keep the BTO prices as expensive as they are, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Would I still buy the new MBP? Maybe...but it makes a PC laptop dual-booting OSX86 and linux relatively more attractive than it was before.

I hope your right! I'll need some of my own upgrades for video editing especially since the specs for the 13" I want are already low I'll need all the help I can get the next time I get money.

3RD party, no need to pay Apple tax on ram and SSD (especially their ridiculous SSD prices) when there are better 3rd party options for far cheaper. I doubt Apple will handicap the laptops with non-upgradable Ram, Airs were one thing, but no way will they handicap the Pro lines. They would piss off and alienate way to many people and businesses if they did that.

I don't know anybody that paid for "Apple upgrades", my friends and myself just get the base ram and hd, and for a fraction of the money order from elsewhere, plus Apples SSDs aren't impressive performance wise vs others.

How is it that iPhone 5 parts are showing up all over the place but no MBP parts?

The phone release is months away and the MBP release is weeks away. It's obvious Apple has a tighter grip on the assembly process of the MBP's. If all these parts being shown are really from the IP5 Tim Cook must be heated.

# of iPhones > # of mac books
Not but a little bit but a ton.

They're going to make way more iPhone 5's than they'll make MBPs, so I would expect more people to have their hands on the whole process, even in pre-launch secrecy. It's probably a lot harder to keep the iPhone 5 a secret just because of that.

Also, I suspect there are 10x as many page views resulting from iPhone 5 parts leaks than MBP parts leaks, therefore 10x the advertising revenue for tech sites, and therefore 10x the amount in rewards being paid to leakers for iPhone 5 info.

Yeah - exactly this. How is it that I can order a MBP with a super low-capacity HD, throw out that HD and replace it with a high-capacity WD Caviar Black (a MUCH better hard drive than the middling Toshiba and Hitachi drives Apple typically includes), and still save money over ordering the MBP with the Apple's high-capacity HD?

1) more iPhones in production
2) more demand for iPhones in terms of consumers.
3) more demand from case makers and websites for iPhone parts. Thus more incentive for a worker to sneak parts out and then sell them on.
4) The size of the parts. It's easy to sneak an iPhone part out than a Macbook part.
5) Production; the MacBooks doesn't include as much labour force (ie. unibody etc)
6) different factories.

funny and sad when you think about it lol, paying for "their" upgrades is about as close to taking it in the butt as can be lol

AppleCare for Redesign?

Who's planning on getting AppleCare for their redesign? It will be my first Mac. 1st model from redesign is more likely to have hickups?...$350 sure is a lot....but I heard you can get it before the 1 year warranty is out? I think you had to buy it new with iPad/iPhone....

More demand should mean more security. If these are indeed the parts competitiors now know what the iPhone will look like until NEXT fall.

I've gotta believe a site would pay a pretty penny for a shot of a new MBP but I understand what you're all saying. The amount of IP5's that will be made is why the parts show up so early. It's not like they're only popping out a few hundred MBP's, I guess it depends on which size models will be available.

Apple don't control the security of Foxconn. Yes there will be security and apparently each worker is searched before they finish their shift and leave.

The main thing comes down to, if you want to sneak out an iPhone part, you can do so easily because it's tiny. The revenue of a leaked iPhone part is vastly more than that of a leaked Macbook Pro.

I think it comes down to what the 9to5Mac source, who was probably a factory worker or someone on the production line telling them what the Pro looks like because, quite simply, it's too hard to leak now.
