in 2008 they were available on stores the next day, so I'd hope they would be the same, it also means we get them before America. :p

Though it is entirely possible they won't be available for a week or more, in 2008 they announced them at a special advent that they could plan around the MacBook pros availability, whereas wwdc has had a date planned for a long time, so they might not be ready yet, if that makes sense.

What is the typical lag time for Amazon to get the new Apple products after they go on sale on apple.com?

So now we should only be 11 days away from launch. Does anybody know how the actual shipping/change to new Pro's actually works.

Ideally I want to pick it up asap as my current laptop broke on my two days ago. If we assume the Pro is being announced during the keynote speech which is from 6pm-7.30pm UK time. Will I be able to drive to my local Apple Store (which is open until 10.30pm here so) and pick it up as soon as it had been announced at WWDC, or will it not be available in the retail store until the next day when they get a shipment or will they have them in the back ready to sell as soon as it is announced?

Equally, online what are the shipping times usually like for the non BTO models, the standard 24 hours or like 1 week?

I believe you can order online as soon as they update the site (up to a few hours after the announcement), or get it in store the next morning.

Once this redesign occurs, I really wonder how much difference there will be with the mba... Comparing the 13" to 13" of course.

Unless they do something major like slash MBA pricing and/or beef up the MBP and increase the price... I feel there will be a lot of market confusion. I know nothing has been released yet, but if the mbp is thinner, SSD, no optical drive, no ethernet, and no firewire then there won't really be much difference between the two.

I plan on getting one of them, but it remains to be seen which one

I would hope they would cut the MBA pricing too, a few years ago you could buy the 13 inch MacBook for £699, now the 13 inch MBA is £1099, £400 more! and the pro is slightly cheaper, but still a lot more money than the MacBook used to be.

If this happens, it would be simple for apple to merge the two MacBook lines to have just one MacBook of each size, 11-17 inches.

I think an ips display, beefier CPU, dedicated graphics, large ssd, and bigger battery make a big difference between a pro and air.

Disc drives and FireWire don't.
(though I'd love to see an ssd+hdd setup)

OMFG just buy the current MBP at bestbuy which offers a 30 day return so if the new MBP is annouce at te jjune 10 wwac then returnthe damn thing to get the new one

Are new Macs (MBPs and iMacs) (finally) right around the corner?

I know it may be yet another misinterpretation, but bare with me:
official and authorised Apple reseller for Poland
• http://www.ispot.com.pl/iMac_c4684.html
• http://www.ispot.com.pl/MacBook_Pro_c4681.html
has iMacs and MBPs on SALE for about -$100 of the regular price. And believe me that they never do that, at least I'd never seen the Polish distributor putting new Macs on sale - Macs are treated as "luxurious" computers here and the official reseller puts the price tags really high - base MBP is 200 Polish Zloty more expensive than in the UK. And to give some credit to my interpretation - we don't have an official refurbished on Apple.pl - since everyone would be buying the refusrbished then:) If an i-Spot is selling some shop-window models then the discounts are truly symbolic. But now the discounted iMacs and MBPS are in most cases cheaper than models with the "student discount"!
Therefore me thinks that... something new this way comes:)
Damn... now I'm so tempted to buy one even though I don't need it:)

This is kind of weird. A thinner 13" MBP sounds like a current 13" MBA? I don't know. I don't see how they are going to make it not like a 13" MBA. More ports, HD display, maybe a longer battery life and faster chip? Meh.

What are the chances of the 13" getting a discrete gpu and/or a ssd? The 15" is above my price range and I like the 13" screen since it fits my needs. And thus I'm wondering if it's possible that the 13" may get a discrete gpu followed by more space due to not having an optical drive?

The forums have gotten me excited about these monstrous rumors that have emerged here, quad core for the 13", SSD, discrete gpu, Retina etc are all possible, wonder if its at all probable.

I don't think Apple would throw all those goodies in there all at once.
there'd be no reason for you to upgrade next year when they slip in the upgrades they were going to do this year.

perhaps that was the old business model.

Yeah, that's sounds exactly like Apple, but mmm maybe that was under Jobs' reign. Hopefully Cook wants to go big with the announcement.

I certain talk radio host seems to be giving them away like crazy... Made a mention that the refurbs are coming.. Probably his hint that new ones are coming instead.. So he needs to blow through the inventory.

It retina displays will be introduced with the new MBP lineup, I am getting a base 13" immediately, maybe with antiglare, if it's an option. If only a speed bump will happen, I'll buy a discounted current base 15". In october, after Apple slightly updated the MBP lineup, base 15" Pros (March 2011 model) were available for the price of a base updated 13" Pro, so buying that was a no brainer... They were virtually flying of the shelves. I really hope the same thing will happen this year again, cause I *need* a new MacBook.

Well, you might see SSDs as a standard, but I don't think they'll stuff in a discrete GPU. Reason? HEAT.
Ivy bridge dual-core CPUs already have 35W TDP, and a dedicated GPU would add at least 15 or 20W to it. And since 13" MBP has reduced cooling capabilities, the computer would run hot as hell and therefore suck / destroy the battery quicker. Also, if the new Pros are about to be thinner, the battery will also have to slim down and probably fill the space of the missing SuperDrive to (at least) keep the current capacity. Therefore I don't think the inside will be much more spacious than it is now.

But hey, HD4000 is not that bad...

Have you noticed that this year will be the same days between updates as in 2008? 231. Coincidence? Who knows B-)

Well I noticed HP laptops with ivy bridge don't ship until June 15th. I'm guessing the same can be said for macbook pro ivy bridge. Just a thought... It'll be announced at WWDC and then released on the 15th (bought online) in stores on the 21st.

Just my guess.

Yeah, generally the majority of big suppliers of Apple products are official authorised resellers.

As has been pointed out many many times before, Apple often works deals with suppliers such as Intel to get the new products before official release dates.

If intel gave hp ivy bridge first, it'd barely make headlines if at all. Give it to apple and everyone anywhere knows about it. 'Nuff said. Intel will gladly take the publicity.

But actually that June 15th thing actually got me thinking, and now I can say without a doubt in my mind that the macbook pro will be announced during wwdc. I'd say, but online the 11th and buy in store the 12th. And maybe even get a few pc people to switch that can't wait 3 days ;).

Irrelevant.

HP laptops with ivy bridge are due to ship on June 15th. I would suspect the new ivy macbooks will come out around then as well.
