50% of all Macs sold are 13" Pros. It's why I have been so sceptical in saying it will be axed. I think there is still a big enough market share for both the Air and the Pro.

I've been skeptical about the 13" MBP being axed for 2 reasons.

1. As many have pointed out, it is their best selling Mac

2. The 13" MBP was introduced over a year after the 13" MBA had been available.

Yes I understand that Apple is not afraid to remove their best selling product like when they axed the iPod mini. With the iPod mini, it was their best selling iPod and was eventually replaced by the iPod Nano, but the Nano was introduced AFTER the iPod mini. In this case, the 13" MBP would be getting replaced by something that was already available before they even began producing the 13" MBP which doesn't seem to make sense to me. But hey, who knows, I'm not the person at Apple who decides this, which is probably a good thing lol

My local Apple store is terrible! When a new product/update comes out, that's when they get the last one in. It's always 6 months behind, they still have the iPad 2 and have *just* got in the last 2011 MBP. Seems like I will be buying the new MBP online, although I was always planning too as the Apple website gives a 14% student discount whereas the store gives an 8% student discount.

That isn't be an Apple Store, that will be a 3rd party retailer.

I don't think you can really count the pre-2010 Air as a 13" MBP competitor. It was very expensive and much more limited than the current models.

If the rumors are true, an updated 13" Air and an updated 13" MBP might look like this:

Air:

13" retina display
Dual-Core ULV Ivy Bridge processor
USB 3
Thunderbolt
No optical drive
Standard SSD

Pro:

13" retina display
Dual-Core Ivy Bridge processor (higher clock speed)
USB 3
Thunderbolt
No optical drive
Standard SSD
Possibly user-upgradable RAM
Possibly upgradable 2.5" HDD

I'm not sure that's enough difference to justify two different models.

Pretty sure there's an Ivy Quad Core with low enough TDP for the 13" MBP.

I could definitely see that as an upgrade option, however standard is unlikely. Then again, I could also see Apple putting up the price of the MBP and differentiating it from the Air with the quad core. I'm excited to see what happens next week.

These have been more or less the most 'solid' of rumors/predictions, and if it's true, then I agree that the 13" MBP might be in trouble as they are quite similar.

However, if we throw a possible quad-core processor and dedicated graphics in the mix for the MBP, that combined with user-upgradability would keep a healthy amount of distance between the two lines.

At least, I can only hope. I need the increased power and upgradability of a MBP (light gaming, photo processing, music production) with the 13" form factor (I travel frequently and I travel light - current 13" is too heavy for me). I'm still using my 2006 15" Dell Inspiron (its hdd died the other week and its screen hasn't worked properly in 5 years) and I've been holding out for months and months waiting for the upgrade.

If they cut the 13" MBP and don't update the Airs to compensate at WWDC, I just may have to cry.

If they are releasing new Macbook Pro, iMac, Macbook Air, Mac Pro, iOS 6, Maps, new iCloud and new App Store, this will be the biggest WWDC keynote ever. But I wonder how they could fit all that into 2 hours.

Yeah you have a point, I can't see the Mac Pro or a new App Store happening but the rest would take a considerable amount of time to explore in a single presentation.

That would be one way to honor Steve Jobs, he would have made it work in 2 hours no doubt. :D

No it's not, it's 14% too in official Apple retail stores.

Did you click on my link? Where did you see 14%?

What I see is 100$ off 13" MBP and baseline 15" MBP, 200$ off second 15" MBP and 17" MBP, 50$ off MBA, 100$ off all iMacs except the cheapest one which is 50$ off, 20$ off Mac minis.

That's closer to about 8-9% off, depending on the model.

I'm calling fake.

Just because Apple really needs a huge step forwards with their lineup to continue to keep their reputation as being on the bleeding edge of design.

The unibody MBP was a revolution, and so was the Air, but now other companies are catching up with the design curve, and if Apple doesn't surge forward again with something new, they'll get left in the dust by the time they put out their next MBP revision.

I've been waiting for 6 months for Apple's big refresh, and if they disappoint on June 11th, my patience will run out, and I will be taking a serious look at the Asus Zenbook Prime.

Waiting on my first Mac ever for college... must say I don't know whether I got excited at the worst or best time! I guess a little of both. Haha Needless to say, as someone who gets "stuck" on an idea and have had my choices running through my head for a month and a half, I'm excited for some action. May we all be happy!
