I wanna bet that's for the 17" MBP. It does not make sense that apple would raise prices by 500 dollars.
Correct me if I am wrong but if (and i say if) this table of prices is true and it is indeed 3,199 Australian dollars for "best macbook pro" i really don't see the price hike.
Right now, top end 15'' MBP on Australia goes for $2,499
Adding BTO CPU, 8GB RAM and high-res anti glare it is $3,183,99
That is with stock 750GB HD, not an SSD
Forgive me but i cannot find the huge price hike people go on for 15 pages now... (if the estimation is for "best macbook pro" then the price is exactly the same i would think)

Take the 3200 dollar supposed 15" MBP 10% is 320 so $2880? Really? 600 dollar price increase? The current MBP "best" is 2200.
The J31 "better, best" falls in line with the current pricing for the 15" MBP.

My advice is expect to be disappointed and have a backup ready if you're in need of a laptop soon.

It's true that the top end MBP is 2200.
But that would be the "better" one.
the "best" one is high end + BTO CPU + ram + high res.
That my friend is not 2200 but 2,799.
So NO price increase what so ever.
I was hoping to spend around $2000. I'm shipping it to my sister in Portland, Oregon to avoid sales tax (I'm in Washington state) XD
However, depending on if the MacBook pro has a retina display or not I might just get a 13" air. My moms that I'm using right now is growing on me.

I played around with a 13'' maxed out. It is a very nice machine. maybe even better suited to my needs than a 15. Since I already have a 30'' at office.

Not extremely tech-savvy when it comes to hardware, so I wouldn't be able to guess how big of an impact a retina screen would have on factors such as battery life and GPU efficiency, but I would love to know. Retina isn't a real must for me, so if it can have a negative impact (and is a BTO option) then I most likely won't be getting it.

Retina Display Higher Resolution = More CPU Processing = Battery Consumption
It's like when you watch a Full HD movie. It uses more CPU and therefore your battery lasts less.

If Apple doesn't invent something, Retina Display will probably mean less battery life.

The current macbook pros are already 80-90% retina, so coupled with an increase in battery size due to the loss of super drive i dont think you will see any negative effect on battery due to the screen, hell you may even see and increase if the battery increase outweights the 20% screen pixel increase...
It may result in less battery life, or Apple will find a way(read: they will) to offset the loss. They'll include a bigger or better battery. Whatever the case, I dont expect to see a big loss here. As for the gpu, it's all supposed to be handled by the hd 4000 which apparently can handle it. Games will run at a lower resolution of course.

Anyway, I really hope Apple bumps the MBP resolution's to what's on the Macbook Air. They can handle the increased resolution fine with slower hardware when directly compared to the MBP, and with a smaller battery.
Final I see some real supply shortages. I have seen a lot of reports in the past but, when I checked my self I never saw it. But now I see real shortages on Amazon UK. They have short supplies on almost all models including the 17'. So maybe the 17' will also get a refresh of some kind. Even Amazon US has low stock on the 17'.
I know this goes on for pages and pages but, do you really think that they are going to scrap the 13" MBP and have the air take its place? and just have the 15" and 17" model?

IMO, no chance. Macbook Pro 13 is the most popular Mac of all. Secondly, people need a that is light, and has some amount of decent power for for example graphic/videon editing or whatever.
I think there will be 11, 13, and 15 inch airs. No 13" pro, only 15 and 17". retina display will be a configured option on all airs, and pro's. I think Apple is really going to surprise folks with the design. it's going to be major. if the airs are released the same time I might just pick on of those up instead. I think this is the last time you will see the air and pro. after this it's the airpro.
I can not see them increaseing the price in dramatic way. I think the 3k rumor just got out there and it has taken on a life of it's own. I did see where some analyst put the new entry level Mac Pro at 3k. Maybe some one just got confused with the MacBook pro. It is easy to do.
Another thing I have not seen much comment on are the leaked size of the MacBook Pro. It is not only thinner, but the width and length are also each about 3/4 of an inch smaller too. I guess they have slimmed down the bezel. That would be very nice.
