are people expecting free mountain lion upgrades if you buy the new mbps this week? *wishful thinking*

It's possible. Happened before. But it seems stupid to depend on it happening since Apple is hardly obligated to do that sort of thing.

Was there any mention of Resolution Independence? Because without it,
the letters on the new hi-res screen will require a magnifying glass to be seen.

It's not resolution independence, but it works like it does with the iPad or iPhone. When they pixel doubled there, did the GUI elements get smaller? No. They just enlarge everything proportionally. For your purposes, the sizes will be as normal but there will be much higher clarity from the increased pixel density.

they seriously aren't going to let people upgrade the drives? :(

it really can't accept a SSD which is only 7mm thick? Seriously?

they want you to shell out a ridiculous amount of $ for a 768GB drive to be future-proofed? Seriously?

SERIOUSLY!?

forget that

thanks for this info

I know this has been posted before, but I appreciate seeing it again here. :)

On the web site it says that the retina display will scale to 1920x1200, 1680x1050, 1200x800, and 1024x640. I want to use this display at 1920x1200. That would be great.

Who else is REALLY surprised that they put an HDMI port in the retina MBP.

That was a really big surprise.

The RAM is not user upgradable. It is soldered onto the logic board. It looks like it might be possible to remove the flash module, but it would be difficult, and it isn't a standard part. This is basically a 15" macbook air.

I really want the 15" retina, but they won't even let us configure the SSD to a higher capacity on the cheaper one?! 256GB isn't enough for me.

I both love and am a little disappointed at the same time.

1. No user upgradeable storage
2. Ditto with RAM. This hurts man.
3. small thing but ONLY ONE HEADPHONE INPUT. what happened to the headphone + microphone jacks like on the last one?!! This small thing is EXTREMELY important to me.
4. only two usb ports? WTF
5. Also, only 720p camera? Come on this 2012. they probably will update to 1080p in the spec bump next year.
6. $2800 for the high end 15 inch?!!? WTF. I thought the predictions of $3000 were laughable but I guess not.
7. Still only Stereo speakers. No subwoofer on the retina model either!
8. 1440 x 900 base resolution! WTF I need that extra screen space I get with 1650 x 1050!

So is the online store supposed to be back online today? How long does it typically take to update it after a hardware update like this?

There's no optical drive too. Hm
