Apple has no reason for doing this since TB is Intel's technology and Apple does not make any money from it.

The MBA screen has a higher resolution but the MBP screen looks a lot better since it's an iPS display (I have both).

I would hope that the MBP does not adopt the MBA's screen.

You know I have noticed preciselly the same thing you mention.

I had a 2010 15'' Macbook Pro , but decided to buy a 13.3'' MBA i7 1.8Ghz and although I can say the MBA is much faster (probabily due to SSD ?) I just don't like the MBA screen. It seems much inferior to the MBP.

Since I still have 15 days to exchange I think I will give to temptation and go for the 17'' MBP :)

Why haven't there been any leaks or anything if it is a redesign? That's what I'm not understanding.

Because Apple are apparently good at keeping things under lock and key. Except for their Iphones but I wonder if those forgotten prototype phones was a mistake or not.

The amount of rumors regarding a release and the news about Ivy bridge coming in 10 days and competition seem to be releasing new laptops Im not sure that it will take 90 days even if thats what macrumors counter is stating. That counter is a relatively loose estimate of what can be expected, and thats actually been mentioned, alot.

MacRumors, AppleInsider and other websites had reported on April 10 that the availability of 15" MacBook Pros was low - some of them were listed as out of stock in these two stores. The conclusion was that the MacBook Pros were due for a refresh.

Well, I have just checked the websites of both BestBuy and J&R, and guess what? 15" MacBook Pros are in stock and ready for shipping. Perhaps that was only a temporary constraint of MacBook Pros, and it has nothing to do with a refresh this month.

Although everything points out to a redesign of the MacBook Pro, we haven't seen anything more concrete until now (except for the HiDPI mode on Mac OS X). No leaks so far. And Apple has not yet called a public announcement of it (of course this kind of update will not be a quiet one).

...yet.

I guess you could be right but we will see. I'm dying to purchase the latest and greatest 15" Macbook Pro.

Me too. I'm drooling for a brand-new, redesigned, ultra-thin, Air-like MacBook Pro equipped with an Ivy Bridge processor, an IPS retina display capable of HiDPI resolutions and an SSD drive. However, as much as I wish it, I don't know if it is going to happen...

Maybe it's just a 15" Macbook Air and the MBPs are staying the same for another year.

Not what I want...but maybe that's what we're going to get.

Is Apple really going to wait four years for a redesign of the MacBook Pro? I think it is going to refresh the line sooner than that.

Little bit embarrassing to post, but maybe you guys can relate.

I definitely had a dream last night that I checked the Apple store online and it showed the 15" MBP's as being out of stock or whatever...

On the other side of the coin it could just be a minor update :(

I want a 15" air, or a powerhouse 13". Sounds like I could be happy in another month ;)

Could be. But four years without a redesign! C'mon, Apple, the MacBook Pro is great, but it's aging!
Ivy Bridge would be nice; that's almost confirmed.

I'm not sure whether Apple will go USB 3 since they want you to buy their Thunderbolt display.

They could make it slightly thinner and I want minimum a 256GB which is a bit small for Pros as it is but I think that would be the minimum. =/

They wouldn't put HDMI in it as that would be pointless. Hmmmmmm. The only reason I'm not buying a late 2011 MBP is because if I bought it now, by the end of the year I could be three generations behind instead of a minimum of two.

Come on :apple:

No apparent reason, just a gut feeling. I was right thinking that iPhone 5 (4s as we now know it) won't be any different from 4 (design wise) ;-) We'll see who is right soon (i don't mind being wrong at all).

Iphone 4 is(was) a state of the art smartphone
the current Macbook Pro Line has many weak sides (some outdated stuff)

The only thing I care about is that if they remove the ODD like a bunch of idiots, will that get rid of the room for a second hard drive?

Not sure.

"The new MacBook Pro launch is imminent, according to Apple Insider, and could happen any time this month."

Hmm. It's now almost mid-April in the UK, so I guess I'd better hold off for 15 more days.

The rumors are quiet, though.

The latest report on the news board is that these IGZO screens use 90% less juice than conventional LCD's.

That's quite telling, with there being strong availability in the coming months.

Yes, but Sharp only produce 7", 10" and 32" IGZO panels.

Sharp said the new technology allows for twice the detail of existing panels at the same transparency, which means high-resolution devices can be designed that require less power and space for backlighting. The company said the new displays cut power consumption by up to 90 percent versus those currently in use.

I wonder 90% less vs witch screen... Current Hi-PPI (250 to 300 PPI)or current conventional screen (100 to 150 PPI).

If it's vs current Hi-PPI ones, that leads them to same level as today screen (100 to 150 PPI). Witch is already great for four times higher resolution.

Do you all want a Macbook Air or a desktop replacement??? I think Apple should continue to have two very distinct product lines. They need to meet consumer demand. A retina display would be phenomenal, but that may not happen until this summer/fall. I have an OLD 2008 MacBook (white). I have been waiting for 13 months already for a refresh, and will wait some more, hoping for a retina, a great dedicated GPU, IVY for sure, and graphite casing. I don't think the last one is coming, but I would rather see a 11" 13"and 15" Air for those that want light weight and potability and a 15"17" for those that want real power instead of a flashy toy.

FYI I am a teacher and I see my students with the MBP 15" and all they use it for is surfing the net, and playing video games. Well guess what, an Air can do those things!

I want something that is a work beast! I would love the portability, but I would rather carry 2.64 extra pounds (Air 13" 2.96lbs vs. Pro "13 5.6 pounds) and get a top of the line computer than carry 1.5 extra pounds with no noticeable difference in performance.

Another FYI I live in Shanghai, China and walk EVERYWHERE! Usually 5-7km a day with my 6 lb 13" MacBook (white) in my bag, textbooks, students's papers, an external 500GB because my internal is too small. If you think 0.5 pounds is too much for you, quit crying and go to a gym.

The Air is a joke when it comes to video games. The 15" and 17" are leaps and bounds better because they have a dedicated GPU; but they still don't match what you can get out of a $700-800 custom built PC.

I feel kind of puzzled when I see kids going around with their Macbook pros thinking they are some kind of big shots when I know for a fact most of them are only using their computer for the most basic tasks. It's so unnecessary.

They really should've saved their money or their parents should've just said no and bought them an Air or an equivalent pc.

Oh, and if gaming is a priority for you, don't buy a mac. Windows is a lot better for games.

Yes, but Sharp only produce 7", 10" and 32" IGZO panels.

No, the release gave examples of sizes and resolutions. It doesn't say a word about those being the only sizes they'll produce - do you really think they'll leave everything between 10 and 32 inches to competitors?

I am not sure on which would be the best approach. If Apple is unable to deliver an ultrathin MacBook with a powerful processor and a dedicated GPU, then it would be better to keep the two lines. Otherwise...
