My top 3:
1.BTO option for SSD instead of optical drive
2.Standard 8GB memory

Aside from new features, these are some of the issues Apple needs to fix in the 2011 line:

1. Reliable SATA3 controller
2. Decent audio out quality (static noise when using headphones - known issue)
3. A better hinge (lots of issues with the current plastic ones)
4. Awful thermal paste application

They have to make a Macbook Air 15" first... hahah But that is actually not a bad idea. I am sure they're putting something in the works.

It's that or they'll keep it at 13" since it pretty much replaced the Macbook.

I have decided to just wait until the end of the year to see if there is a refresh, then I will get Ivy Bridge.

Its not like I was waiting all year, was only interested in a Mac last month. I was already tardy to the party, a little more waiting wont kill me. Might try to get an old mac mini or an ipad 2/iphone 5 to hold me over!

I am also interested in the new Mac line Apple is supposed to introduce, what do you guys think it will be? If it is a Mid-Range tower, that would be my dream, but that will never come true!

or carbon fiber right?!

Making a macbook out of carbon fiber would take the whole appeal of getting a macbook in the first place away. You know that carbon fiber looks like plastic, smells like plastic, sounds like plastic and feels like plastic right? Now tell whats the point of making a carbon fiber version. You would just destroy the whole concept of the macbook. The whole philosophy

Second its totally not economic at all. You might as well go for a military grade polymer that functions exactly like carbon fiber. You would lose nothing at all if you use a military grade plastic instead like those thinkpads and those rugged notebooks from panasonic. Carbon fiber is really only useful for the aerospace and automotive industry.

I'm almost 100% certain that he was making a joke. Look at who he was quoting regarding the Liquid Metal MBP. If you saw a month ago, there were numerous threads regarding the 2012 MBP having a Liquid Metal case all from this one guy who had no proof or source, and then everybody was making threads "Should I buy now? What will the new MBP be like? I don't know what to do :(" and it was pretty funny.

There were also people saying there would be carbon fiber MBP's, again, no proof or source.

That guy was most likely making a joke. You need to chill out.

I don't know why everyone is so excited about liquid metal either, it potentially could be awesome but right now nobody knows anything about it. It was in the sim card eject pins all the while and nobody even noticed.

The future of MBP

Here's what I would consider and imagine how the future MBPs will be designed like:

-They won't be as thin as the Macbook Air: Being as thin as the Air would mean they would not support HDD and can only use flash storage. For media professionals, large amounts of space is important. It is very clear that This would mean the thickness of the new MBP would be at least as thin as a HDD. Apple could also make it dual drive system. Optical Drive is very likely to be excluded.

-Macbook Air will not replace the MBP 13. This is because Macbook Air is missing a lot of essential features such as ethernet port, and other ports.

-Standard screen resolution would be higher

Is it just me or is anyone else not enthusiastic about a tapered design for a future MacBook Pro? While I respect how small and light the MacBook Air is, I always thought the tapered look was a bit of a necessary evil. It has to have the thickness in the back, because of components. I think the iPad 2 looks better because it maintains the same thickness everywhere. The curved sides of the iPhone 3/3GS and iPad 1 were there to hide the thickness in the middle. It never sat well with me. I'd actually prefer to have things a bit thicker (iPhone 4, current MBP) and maintain clean edges. Again...maybe it's just me.

I totally agree with you. I think the MBP line looks much better than the Air. Not sure yet if I like the black frame around the screen. I feel the same about the iPhone 4. I think it looks awesome much better than the old models. Same with iPad 2.

I'd prefer a 256gb ssd or a higher res of the screen rather than 8gb of ram, what do u guys do to need such amount of ram?

I also agree with this. One reason I haven't switched to an air. Rather just upgrade my RAM and get a SSD than carry something so small I feel as though I will break it. I do like the Air, but I want a machine with a little heftiness. I love my MPB and Aluminum Macbook.

Probably whole new redesign.
including the Ivy i7 chips.
Max RAM prob 16GB.
SSD MAYBE be standard but highly doubt it.
I wouldnt really believe on the liquid metal.
I think it will still be aluminum with a different design.

What's the odds of there NOT being a MBP redesign next year?
I'm going to look stupid waiting for the so called redesigned 2012 model if there isn't one

i Would like to switch from a 2009 unibody 17" to a highres 15" afther the Keynote in September (if it will come, just to be sure they won't upgrade).

But i would like to know: Is there any need for Apple to update the MPB sometime soon?
(in terms of hardware, I mean)

While I wouldn't like to see a Carbon MacBook Pro, it obvious you haven't seen real top grade carbon. It's literally nothing like plastic!!

Go check out some naked carbon fibre, like the stuff they put on Pegani Zonda's, or parts of the Maclaren F1, or even the bonnet or a Megane R26.r

My dream Macbook Pro:
Better screen
Lighter design (Get rid of the CD drive)
Better battery life
Ivy Bridge processor
USB 3.0
SSD Standard

All of the rest is unnecessary.

Needs to be much thinner. Merge with the Macbook Air line and just call them all Macbooks. Without a CD drive, 13'', 15'', 17''.
