Daniel Ricciardo has been confirmed as Mark Webber's replacement at Red Bull for next year. It was the most logical choice. He will clearly be a number two driver. No more need for any explicit drivers orders

Kimi seems to have three options available for him: Stay at Lotus, move to Ferrari, or be out of F1. My hunch is that if he stays in F1 it will be at Lotus. Even if Massa is out I don't see Ferrari taking on the disruption that can be Raikkonen.

I still think there is a surprise or two to come. Maybe at McLaren? I know the car is a Turkey, but even as a brit I'm getting sick of JB moaning.

I thought McLaren had re-signed Jenson but they have not. You may be right. McLaren may not even be good next year but there is the promise of those Honda engines in 2015. Kimi back at McLaren? Jenson at Ferrari?

Hmmm...Jensen at Ferrari. That actually seems plausible. He's a solid driver when he has a great car, would play well as a team mate and as a company man, and would attract sponsorship for being British and a former WDC.

I can also see Kimi at McLaren. I thought he did really well there. However, he won't like the media responsibilities that come with a McLaren drive. He is not well suited for fat boy's soda cookies.

I am quite pleased for Ricciardo getting the second Red Bull seat for next season. A lot of people were expecting Raikkonen or Alonso to be the shock signing and it is nice to see a Red Bull graduate get the seat. I still think their is some untapped talent waiting to be shown by Daniel. Good luck to him and I hope he runs Sebastian to the wire.

I'm pleased too. Christian Horner promised Vettel and Ricciardo equal equipment. I'm still laughing about that statement.

If Ricciaro shows enough promise at Red Bull he could get a good ride elsewhere because the likelihood of him being allowed to challenge for a championship while Vettel is at Red Bull is slim to none unfortunately.

Yeah, Horner's statement begs the question, were Vettel and Webber not given equal equipment then? :p

Red Bull have been under scrutiny many times about how they have treated Webber over the years in terms of personal support. Mark is not as good talent wise as Vettel I think most would agree, but he has been left out in the cold when the two have clashed. Turkey 2010 was entirely Vettel's fault yet the team chose to publicly condemn Webber, to which they later retracted it. Webber has been openly negative with his frustrations of the team and I think it was a turbulent relationship, but a successful one. I think Daniel will bring enthusiasm and a thirst to prove himself. I wouldn't mind betting he'll out-qualify Vettel at some point and it'll put the team under pressure to actually support each driver equally. I think it is an exciting prospect. :)

I went to this years Silverstone F1 race and had a brilliant time. I sat in the Int Pit Straight grandstand and had a perfect view. I'd say it was well worth the money, but at £500 for the weekend including caravan pitch, im still recovering from the expense.

So jealous ;) Looks like you had a great view of the start. Hope you wore ear plugs! I'm hoping there is race in New Jersey next year. Either there or Montreal. There is nothing like seeing the speeds in person.

Nice pictures and glad you enjoyed it even if it was expensive. I've been to the British GP many times over the years as I was lucky enough to grow up a few miles away. My first visit was in 1993. I managed to get paddock passes a few years ago and got to go through the pits and eat and drink in the Paddock Club. I dread to think how much that would have been to buy! I just wish fans had a better chance of seeing a bit behind the scenes, but unfortunately we are priced out. Silverstone needs to spend more money making the facilities better for the fans as its one of the most expensive GP's to attend in Europe. With the new owners perhaps a little money will be spent in that direction seeing as the new pit complex is done and dusted. :)

Nice. I've never been to an F1 event (but have been to others). Might treat myself next year for my BD. I've never wanted to do it on the cheap. I'd want to be able to see plenty of action.
My Mum went a few years ago on a package deal. They went by coach, and ended up staying in Dudley. The paperwork described it as a local hotel!

It was amazing, and im not particularly an F1 fan, but Ive always wanted to go see one and thought that the British F1 should be seen.

Great view from my seat of cars approacing from Stowe, turing right into Int Pit Straight. Had a brilliant view of the pit lane as well. Had I been sat further along towards the start line then the banking and fence would have obstructed my view of the pits.

Even Vettel decided to come to a stop right opposite me...:D

The grandstand ticket allowed us to roam all the other grandstands on the Friday & Saturday, with reserved seat on race day.

I see Alonso has signed with Ferrari for another 3 years. Effectively he will end his career there me thinks.
So that just leaves Kimi and I can't see any better options available than the seat he has right now. But you never know.

Nice shot! I'd like to see him climb out on track a little more often!

21 races next year? I can't see it myself, but lets hope so.

Kimi to Ferrari? I'd rather see Di'Resta but would be interesting to see how he would get on with Alonso.

21 seems hard to believe. And it's contingent on Mexico and Russia getting their acts together. It would not be surprising if at least one of them does not make it.

Red Bull on the front row for tomorrow. Please let there be some rain :)

So no rain, and the end result was pretty predictable. Good scraps everywhere else though. More boos for finger boy.
Alonso was superb at the start. Eclipsed by Massa, but he was under orders to give up the place.

thejudge13 website (which evidently is pretty good for Formula One information) appears to be of the opinion that Kimi is going to Ferrari to replace Alonso, who is now out of "Imperial Favor" due to his recent antics.

I remain skeptical for two reasons:

  1. Luca di Montezemolo was the one who bought out Kimi's final year and benched him to allow Alonso to join the team. Reversing himself would be proof he made the wrong decision.
  2. As I understand it, Alonso has three years left on his contract. If they have to buy him out to get Kimi in (either because they want to keep Massa or to neutralize the "veto" power Alonso is rumored to have on driver selection) that is going to be very expensive, as I believe Alonso was reported to make some $30 million in salary and incentives (points/wins/etc).

This does seem dubious. Where would Alonso go? McLaren to replace Button? Lotus to take Kimi's seat?

Alonso is not getting any younger. I think he still has the best chance of winning in 2014 and forwards at Ferrari and he clearly knows that. He also knows that Massa is his best teammate. He doesn't need a teammate to push him. His two championships at Renault were with Fisichella as his teammate.

Ferrari will not find a more complete and more tenacious driver than Alonso. They just have to give him a faster car.

Massa was talking about showing other teams what he could do after the race on Sunday. I guess he knows he won't be getting another year. If Kimi does go to Ferrari, expect fireworks!

The members of the team are said to love him, but his inability to reliably score points since his accident is hurting Ferrari in the Constructor's Championship - losing second place to McLaren in 2010 and 2011 probably cost Ferrari scores of millions in post-season payouts and they're at real risk of losing 2nd place to Mercedes AMG Petronas this year.

It is looking more and more likely that Kimi will sign with Ferrari. I don't see how that's going to work out. Alonso is a great driver but he is very territorial. It seems like either you beat Alonso like Hamilton did in 2007 and it rips apart the team or you lose out to Alonso's and are never the same.

I hope it's not the end for Massa. I think if he went to a team where he was supported as an equal driver he'd thrive. I wish he's switch seats with Kimi but I fear he will be out of F1 next year if he leaves Ferrari. Why languish at the likes of Force India, Sauber, or Caterham?
