But why did Hamilton give up second place with that pit stop? Surly the team were letting him know to get a move on? Great day for Nico and Mercedes but it could have been so much better with a 1 & 2. Last couple of laps from Kimi were outstanding as well.
Completely different race in Canada though so it will be interesting to see if Mercedes can take their qualifying pace with them on Sunday.

They guys on the telly harkened back to the race, China or australia mebbe, that Nico was asked to move over for hamilton and he did it, saying"you owe me.". even Lewie wasn't happy with that move. i felt like he did it as payback. good team move either way.

And what about Perez and Raikkonen? Have the stewards already discussed?

Perez was a spaz this weekend. massa too!

Great to see! I didn't think Mercedes would be able to make their tires last. Guess that Pirelli test really helped.

This bodes well for the rest of the season with regards to Hamilton taking the fight to Vettel. But Nico's domination of him these last few races has been impressive. Nico's just too far down in the standings unfortunately.

not if he keeps winning!

I agree that 13 races is a long way to go. But 60 points behind Vettel is a huge margin. I'd love to see somebody, anybody step up and challenge Vettel but it seems like he's the only consistent one and Raikkonen, Alonso, Hamilton, and Rosberg just take points away from each other.

Kimi has been pretty consistent this year. Trouble is so is Vettel. We need some DNF from Vettel to make it interesting. Otherwise it will all be over far too soon.
If they do switch to a new tyre compound I think that could make it more exciting to watch, but I think this will just play into Red Bull's hands.

i'm counting on webber to take him out of a few.

I wonder if there is going to be any fallout from the Mercedes/Pirelli 'secret' tire test in mid-May.

It's my understanding that since the FIA has already finalized the results of Monaco any penalties would not include points or positions. If anything happens, which isn't all that likely, I just expect a fine.

the guys on the NBC broadcast said there wouldn't be. Pirelli have a clause in their supplier contract that allows them to pick a team at random and do testing. I believe it is done under the auspice of "safety".

I heard this too. I also heard that supposedly Pirelli is supposed to ask all the teams first and that the test is limited to 100Km (which seems ridiculously short). Who knows where the truth lies?

It's ironic that Red Bull is crying foul after taking advantage of all the diffuser loopholes

The controversy with Mercedes is that they took their 2013 car to the test, which contravenes FIA rules requiring a 2010 car. The FIA did agree to allow Mercedes to send their 2013 car to the test, but only if it was driven by Pirelli's test drivers. Instead, Rosberg and Hamilton drove. Mercedes was also allowed to test the tires that will be used for Canada in addition to tires intended for the 2014 season.

Ferrari and Lotus both were allowed special test sessions with Pirelli, but they used 2010 cars per FIA regulations. It has been claimed that Red Bull was offered a test session, as well, but declined on the grounds they would learn little if anything using their 2010 car.

Stay tuned for another episode of , As The Podium Turns ...

Thanks for the explanation. Probably little will come from the other team complaints other than a fine... maybe.

Predictions ahead of the weekend? I think Hamilton will come good for pole on Saturday, and Alonso will win on Sunday. Whatever happens at least we will see some passing on the track, not just in the pit lane. Outside bet on McLaren if it rains.

Vettel into the Wall of Champions. :D

Nice. Better would be Webber pushes Vettel into the wall of champions!

That would be better ;)

I don't see the Mercedes pole streak being beaten. This isn't Monaco so Mercedes won't be able to dictate race pace and win but they shouldn't fall back as far as they did before their Pirelli test.

If Alonso can qualify well or get in the top two or three after the first corners then I could definitely see him winning. Ditto for Kimi.

Agreed.

Trouble is, the Mercedes is not a good starter and if Vettel gets away from Hamilton and then Hamilton slows to pack like Rosberg did in Monaco, then "finger boy" may get his first Canadian win.

I don't think the pack will have trouble passing like they did in Monaco. Hopefully the race pace will be there. The weather will be a big factor though.

Somebody, anybody, please step up and beat Vettel!

I do think Hamilton can do it. Mercedes has the speed and I don't believe Canada is as hard on tires as it is on brakes.

Kimi's race is pretty messed up starting 10th so he's probably going to lose points to Vettel. Alonso might be able to do his usual magic but it will be hard to get by Vettel. Mercedes is fast but it's not consistently one driver or the other.

It's looking like Finger Boy is going to need a couple of DNF's not to win #4 :(

ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGH! Why does it always come down to pole? FB (Finger Boy) gets in the lead and just runs away just out of time for the DRS to be active because 2nd and 3rd place are dukeing it out and not paying attention. Maybe they need to think like (gawd forbid) NASCAR, and "help" each other a bit. Not just team drivers but other drivers too. At least to get close to FB to get a chance to pass.
