Does this mean you get coverage from 2 different networks at the same time?

(Apologies for not being up to speed (ha!) on how TV works in the UK)

Well if I subscribed to Sky I would. The BBC is free (well apart from the licence fee but you have to pay that if you own a TV anyhow). Sky is a subscription service. I wouldn't mind paying for F1 but it's all the other crap I don't want that I have to pay for that stops me. Plus I'm tight!

Same camera angles on both, or different?

Over here, we get "the world feed" - both Fox and NBC Sports used/use it.

I might be tempted to pay for more, but I don't think that option even exists for us here.

FYI:

CNBC(comcast) will show the race live, at least in my area, MIDDLE TN.

I believe it's the world feed for the actual race. They have cameres for before and after. EJ & DC always get to speak to the drivers and team owners, even when it's obvious they have other things to do.

Well here we go. Lets hope Red Bull don't do LH & NR at the start and disappear.

Yeah, doing the same thing here in GA. Kind of sucks when nbcsports SAYS they're going to broadcast the race at 0730 then they delay it for the Tour de France. I was warming to NBCSPORTS but now...meh. Well at least I haven't missed the start. Will be interesting to see what shaky move that finger boy tries to pull. Not a Hamilton fan but today.....yeah baby, go Hammmie! Maybe Kimmi's passive dsr system will work today and he'll surprise everyone. Okay, about to start. Let's go. Cheers

Good result for Nico, but I would have liked Mark to nick it at the end as it was his last British Grand Prix. Good come back for Hamilton, Massa and Di Resta from their various issues.
The FIA are going to have to do something about those tyres.

that was fun.

the pure joy and euphoria of vettel's car breaking down.. wow. that made my weekend.

almost as good as having sex!

I didn't see that restart when finger boy was in the lead and nico in second but heard the announcers questioning why nico was laying so far back from finger boy. What's with that? If I was behind finger boy on a restart I'd be right on his a*s. Everyone knows that he likes to get that 1.1 sec lead so you can't use the drs on him. Geeeesh, what was that about.

Glad to see Alonso on the podium and getting some points. Ambivalent about Webber. Won't really miss him next year but I'll see him at Le Mans. Now that's gonna be a race. Porsche vs Audi, can't wait for that one.

Tires, yup that's a problem. Interesting that it was all left rears that failed. They didn't go down like a puncture, they just seemed to explode! I was thinking they were going to call the race (with finger boy leading, they probably would have called him the winner) but glad they didn't. Wonder if Bridgestone has some old inventory:D Cheers

Finally Finger boy has some bad luck. Let's hope the regression to the mean continues.

Agreed. Those didn't seem like punctures. No warning. Not even with Massa who was in the middle of a corner. US TV coverage said Pirelli wanted to try a new tire construction for Silverstone but the teams couldn't agree and so the race was on the old tires.

Pirelli are in a tough and thankless position. F1 kind of needs them. No other major tire manufacturer seems to want to step forward.

Not sure if this'll show outside the UK but Gary Anderson seemed to think that the kurbs had a significant part to play here.

Yes I saw that, but the curbs haven't changed from last year have they? I think its either the teams running too low pressure or a change in the tyre construction.
Either way, another race and we are talking tyres again!

Liked Hammy getting back up there.

Same for Massa.

Haven't warmed to Rosberg, probably won't at this point. He may have caught a break with the stewards today, heard after the race he was told he hadn't slowed enough for a yellow flag - no penalty, just a warning.

"Punctures" my rear end.

Anyone think that F1/FIA would have had the guts to cancel the race had more "punctures" happened? Shades of Indy (yes I know not truly the same).

Also, man has McLaren really taken it on the chin this year - Hammy can't be disappointed he left, can he?

I think the curbs will probably take most of the blame. What are Pirelli and F1 in general going to do in one week? Blaming the curbs is kind of an easy way out while they figure out what's really going on. Of course it could be the curbs in combination with something particular to the tires causing the blowouts.

that is exactly what i expected.... glad they finished and no one got hurt.

And Martin Whitmarsh is mumbling about a possible
boycott
of the German Grand Prix over concerns about the tires.

i am not surprised.

I heard that Pirelli might use tires built with Kevlar casings for this weekend's German race. A boycott would be a disaster.

Don't they use Kevlar already? I think the issue would be resolved if they introduced a minimum psi. The teams run really low pressure to try and get an advantage.

Good to see Pirelli taking advice from Steve Jobs level of PR. Basically they just said in their statement "You're using it wrong"

Paul Hembrey said he didn't want to start an argument or point fingers, but thats alls they seem to be doing

No they use cheaper steel belts. They wanted to switch to kevlar but Ferrari, Force India, and Lotus opposed that because they are the teams that understand how to make the tyres work.

Pirelli do advise teams on a minimum psi, but they regularly ignore it. Red Bull being the prime suspect.

Last years tyre design was with Kevlar but it switched to steel to help the tyre temps as steel holds the temp for longer and more consistently. If they were running Kevlar at the last race the curbs wouldn't have been an issue.

Has anybody seen this?

1) Rear tyres that were mounted the wrong way round: in other words, the right hand tyre being placed where the left hand one should be and vice versa, on the cars that suffered failures. The tyres supplied this year have an asymmetric structure, which means that they are not designed to be interchangeable. The sidewalls are designed in such a way to deal with specific loads on the internal and external sides of the tyre. So swapping the tyres round has an effect on how they work in certain conditions. In particular, the external part is designed to cope with the very high loads that are generated while cornering at a circuit as demanding as Silverstone, with its rapid left-hand bends and some kerbs that are particularly aggressive.

Seems strange to me!

^^^^

Seems very strange to me as well - I've always figured the tires (tyres!) were asymmetrical.

In addition I would have thought the banding/branding would have been on the outside of the tire only. I've looked for pics that would support that but haven't found any yet. OK - found some, yep it's on both sides. Fix that and you're good to go.
