Talk of a boycott this weekend. Can't see it happening myself.

I don't see it happening either. Pirelli are switching to Kevlar tire belts which should fix the catastrophic failures. The GPDA just want to be heard and go on the record.

Hoping Ferrari can up their game this weekend but that has not exactly happened in FP1

^^^^

Seems very strange to me as well - I've always figured the tires (tyres!) were asymmetrical.

They are. Even more strange, Pirelli was telling the teams they could swap the tires from side to side after qualifying to improve their usable life in the race.

That is no longer allowed under new tire rules announced for this race (and going forward) by Pirelli and the FIA, however. In addition to the "no swap" rule, the new rules set minimum starting tire pressures (16psi), minimum stabilized running tire pressure (20psi front | 19psi rear), and maximum negative camber at the end of the front straight (4° front | 2.5° rear).

How down did Nico look after qualifying. I really hope Hamilton can stay if front of Vettel at the start. Otherwise I fear it will be the German finally getting a home win. At least there were no tyre dramas!

I really think this could be Hamilton's day. The teams are struggling to get heat into the new rear tires. This should play into Mercedes hands. They had trouble with too much heat and wear on the rears before.

Also hoping Ferrari's prime tire gamble in qualifying pays off so at least Alonso can finish in front of the Finger.

well, all that has gone out the window... =(

go grosjean!

what i should have been saying was, "go grosjean, get out of kimi's way!"

i enjoyed their battle but kimi was faster. team orders would have been nice around lap 41 or so...

looks like everyone is going to be one or two laps short of catching red bull/vettel for the rest of the season =(

Why couldn't Vettel have an issue with his pit stop? It is always Mark that gets the bad luck in that team. At least the camera guy is alright.

he he he. yeah vettel's car broke last week though. but it is uusally webber who has the most bad luck. honestly, i was thinking the same thing.

the camera man who got hit by the tire is "ok" if broken ribs and a broken collar bone are what we term "ok". ;)

Exciting, but not the results I wanted! ;)

Also, Alonso stopped on the start-finish straight, looked like he ran out of fuel, but I can't see anyone reporting on what that was just yet.

If Webber's tire had been oh, just a foot higher when it struck the cameraman, done deal for him, as in lights out. He's an unlucky/lucky man...

Wow, I was very wrong about Mercedes. Lotus came out of nowhere and should have won the race.

If not for the safety car I think Grosjean would have won. Why was the safety car released? By the time it was out the danger had already passed. It saved the day for Vettel.

Good question on the safety car - AND on how long it was out there. Webber was helped immensely by that.

If F1 gets to be like Nascar.... well, perish the thought!

nascar has gotten more like F1 !

one guy wins most of the time...Jimmie Johnson... :(

Silly Season

Silly season is coming soon. This year could see more movement than in the past several years.

Obviously the Mercedes and McLaren drivers are set but almost every other team could see a change.

If Kimi indeed moves from Lotus to RBR then it could open up a floodgate of moves.

As much as I like Massa I can't see him staying at Ferrari for another season. I hope they retain him but if they don't who would replace him? I see DiResta as the most likely option with Hulkenberg a possibility. DiResta seems to have talked himself out of Force India.

Lotus could end up with two new drivers. Maybe Ricciardo. Maybe DiResta.

Any thoughts?

They were checking the track for fluids and debris

I'm available!
I bet Vettel would welcome Massa at Red Bull!
I'd like to see Kimi at Red Bull to challenge finger boy.
I think Di'Resta at Ferrari would be a fantastic opportunity for him.
Personally I can't see Red Bull taking on a number 2 driver that will challenge Vettel. More likely one of the youngsters who will be made to follow the leader.
Could be worse though. Last year at Ferrari, when Massa out qualified Alonso they changed his gear box! Talk about favourites.

Cough - just like Nascar!

Next up - "competition cautions?"

They've allow "overtaking" just like the "lucky dog" as well. OK, that one I get, but really there's no way Webber should have finished that high after the debacle in the pits.

I still wonder about Kimi to RBR, mainly due to how it could affect the team dynamics. Weber is a nice guy, but he's clearly not a challenge to Vettel. Kimi could be, but you have to believe RBR will continue to treat Vettel as #1 both because he'll likely have his fourth straight WDC in hand and Mateschitz loves him. RBR saw what Alonso+Lewis did to McLaren - do they want to risk that with Vettel + Kimi?

Lotus F1's problem has been cash, but the infusion from Infinity Racing Partners Limited and some larger sponsorship deals might be enough for them to continue to afford Kimi's services.

I also agree Massa probably is done at Ferrari. If nothing else, Ferrari needs a reliable #2 finisher to help them in the Constructor's Championship. Yes, they get a nice guaranteed minimum from the FIA for being Ferrari, but the monies paid for being #2 in the championship are a fair bit nicer than #4, I imagine.

And I don't think it will be Giancarlo Fisichella based on the job he did for them in 2009 subbing for Massa. ;)
