Pushing it back was dumb, we don't need 300 more mock drafts. I also really hate that they break it up with the 1st round, 2nd and 3rd, and 4th - 7th all on different days. So stupid and annoying.

That said, I am still excited.

TV Ratings proved you wrong. I hate it too, but it's never going back to April now...not after this TV explosion.

That's a lot of money to spend on passrushers. I would hope they trade down and grab a quarterback.

You have to remember that the way the CBA is now, it's really not that much money in the big scheme of things. The other thing is, pass rushers are probably the third most important position on a football team behind QB and LT.

I hope the NFL is smart enough to realize that the boost in ratings was due to the many story lines in this years draft. Like who the Texans will take first, Manziel, Michael Sam, the effect of Bridgewater's awful pro day etc....

Remember that the draft being late this year had nothing to do with the NFL wanting to push it back. Radio City had a show that forced the league to move the draft.

TV ratings proved what wrong?

The NFL (and the draft) has continued to grow in popularity every year, I think the ratings would have been incredible no matter when it was. And all I said was I hated the format, not that it wasn't financially viable.

You said pushing it back was dumb. TV Ratings showed that it wasn't and most likely secured the "spot" and "format" for the future.

I didn't like them moving it to May but yet it was a ratings success. I was tired about hearing aobut the mock drafts and the over-analysis that was going on but since money rules the NFL, it was considered a success.

They pushed it back because Radio City Music Hall was hosting an event. Not because they thought it would get better ratings in May. It would have been a ratings powerhouse 2 weeks prior as well. In fact, I think there would have been less burnout from all the talking about it that happened.

In May it also had to compete with the semifinals of the Stanley Cup playoffs and NBA playoffs.

I know that the Easter show at RCMH during that time frame was why it was bumped. They also pursued other venues and decided to stay at RCMH at a later date. So they did kind of decide to move the date...albeit RCMH scheduling a conflicting event set the ball in motion. There were several other venues in the NY area that they could've held the event at the traditional time...

Regardless...it wasn't dumb...lol.

Btw - The Stanley Cup and the NBA have zero effect on the NFL.

Belichick had enough cameras, how did he not find out Hernandez was on a killing spree.

Because football fans are not basketball or hockey fans ? Most people I know would rather watch a playoff game (especially if their team is in it) rather than the draft.

Basketball is not a sport, it is a running around activity that some football coach invented to keep his players in shape in the off-season.

They didn't "kind of" decide to move it because they thought the ratings would be better - they decided to keep the venue amid a scheduling conflict because it's iconic and the logistics were already in place. Again, the ratings would have been phenomenal in April, May, June. If they believed those two weeks would be beneficial, the NFL would have moved it in prior years. It would be a ratings winner either way. All it did was drag out an already lengthy process.

This. Most casual followers would go for playoffs over the draft. After the first round, average Americans have no idea who any of the players are.

Belichick had enough cameras, how did he not find out Hernandez was on a killing spree.

Every time I think it's as bad as it's going to get, I'm wrong.

So. The pre-pre power rankings are out for this upcoming season and you guessed it. Seattle starts out #1 again this season with Denver right behind at #2.

It's gonna be hard for Seattle to win two in a row.

You're wrong. As ESPN reported, they looked at keeping the draft on the same date and looked at different venues. They decided to keep it at Radio City Music Hall...and the kicker is...the original date was open because the Hearts and Lights Easter show couldn't be worked out due to production issues until 2015. The date was open. The NFL decided to switch.

The NFL is about making money and moving the draft to sweeps week brings in more revenue and it brought their highest ratings ever. Higher ratings during sweeps week >>>>>> Higher ratings in April.

Everything NFL trumps anything NHL or NBA. Your naive to think otherwise...as ratings continuously prove year after year after year. I mean even the WWF does better than the NHL...lol...and I'm a huge hockey fan and I know this...

So again, the TV Ratings prove your statement that moving the draft back was dumb was wrong.

Kind of twisted but this is good news for the Pats. Since he's now been indicted in these murders before he signed his contract extension, the Pats should be able to void that contract and recoup the huge cap penalties they were going to face the next few years for releasing him.

It's also good news because it's even less likely hernandez will ever see anything but prison walls ever again.

It means the Pats are inept and didn't know he was killing people before they gave him a extension. I thought Belichick was on top of things there. Don't they put tails on players they suspect might be up to stuff.

Oh yeah, because every NFL team has a staff member to shadow every single player 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to make sure they don't do anything wrong.

These players are adults. What adults do off the clock outside of work is not the responsibility of their employer.

The guy was a bad seed in high school and your telling me the Pats didn't know this when they drafted him. Bill knows more about his players than any other coach in the league.

There's tons of players who could have been considered "bad seeds" in high school. How is anyone supposed to predict he's going to become a murderer 3 years later?

Agreed. There was no way to predict/foresee that Hernandez would do something like this.

I disagree. It's been documented that Hernandez exhibited highly questionable behavior at Florida. NE turned a blind eye because, hey the kid could play. To be fair the Patriots are definitely not the only professional organization to do this.

One very positive outcome would be that pro sports teams would make a pact to not employ people with known gang relations past or present. This could serve as a major deterrent for kids tempted to join gangs. We'll see if they do the right thing.

Sounding like the Pats won't be able to get his $10M bonus money back...or it's gonna be more difficult then they thought...

I agree completely. But I wonder if they would since some of those players are THAT good would still get the contract. ALA Hernandez, even though they have a checkered past or known gang ties/affiliation/etc. But I would really like to see this happen. Heck in all the major sports NBA/NFL/MLB etc.
