he he he... i wonder who the raiders will want...?

It will be interesting to see how the Raiders do against the Niners. Though not rivals in same division, it's almost as if they are and Oakland may rise to the occasion.

The Niners absolutely have to win all remaining games since it doesn't seem like Seattle is going to lie down and Arizona is probably still the best team overall (tough schedule overall) in offense and defense in the NFL. While many say the Niners are toast for this year, losing against Oakland would be the type of thing that many SF fans would use as a reason to fire the unpopular coach. Harbaugh did take us to three straight NFC Championship Games and coming from where we were with previous coaches for many years, that's not at all bad.

Looks like your wish came true.

I can't see the coach surviving after the season ends.

I see a lot of coaches getting the ax after the season ends. I think the Giants, Falcons, Jets, Raiders, Bears will all fire the head coaches on Black Monday.

I don't see the Giants firing Coughlin. But I also don't see him staying around. They will most likely have a "graceful exit".

Cowboys big win puts them at #1 of four teams going for wild card with only two spots up for grabs. This puts the Niners back and more pressure to do well. Romo is tops in NFL and I could see the Cowboys winning a tough NFC East. I think it will just be another game where Cowboys played really well in regular season only to get cursed like a lot of other great teams with great quarterbacks. It's like this December and January curse that falls on a few of them.

Curse?

Every year for nearly ten years it looks like it could be a year for him to go all the way but something keeps on happening. We have also seen many unfulfilled years (8-10 years, or more) go by with QBs with great numbers like Rivers, Brady, and Manning come and go with no Super Bowl wins. But in that time you get teams like the Ravens and Giants win, and upstarts like Saints and Seahawks take it all the way while Peyton loses two SBs, Brady loses two SBs, and Rivers and Romo keep their QB rating in the 90s yet never even get there.

And then there's SF with Kap, with still good numbers, on a team that may not make it for first time with him at QB with Harbaugh as coach. The D brings it more often, though not like previous years, but there's something terribly wrong with my Niner's offense. While it may be risky, I think Kap needs to think about running the ball more as that and passing is a better idea for him than just passing.

Romo is tops in NFL

I've always thought Romo is very under appreciated as a QB, but no way. Aaron Rodgers is playing out of his mind right now.

That's because there are more great QBs than Super Bowl winners every year - ie, only one team can win it. Rodgers has only won one Super Bowl, is it because he chokes or stinks every other year? Obviously not, but it's a team game and he can't win a championship alone. Same goes for Brady, Manning, Luck, and every other elite QB. Same reason why good but not great QBs can win Super Bowls with excellent teams around them (Flacco, Wilson). The media and some fans always try and make it about one guy, but year after year it gets proven that it's a team game without exception.

As a season on the whole he is really great even though he didn't look like vintage Rodgers against the Pats. While GB won it just didn't look like the same QB who easily tosses them in the end zone at will. When he's on it looks like he was designed to throw six TDs in a game. But that could be more about the Pats current D which was impressive last week. If Pats D can stop red zone intruders it may be them who win the Lombardi and lo and behold the hero of the Pats 4th Super Bowl win could be their D. If Brady can't get it into the end zone, they have shown they could run the hell out of the ball, too so only time will tell but my feeling this year is still with Colts for AFC prediction even though they are only #4 seed in playoff hunt.

Sometimes a team doesn't do all that well but the QB has a good set of numbers and Rivers and Romo seem to top that list. The press likes to liken it to choking but like you said it takes a whole team to win, or lose. If Dallas can keep their running up there consistently with the passing numbers of Romo, then Dallas is among my favorites to win it all. I am curious to see how Green Bay finishes out this season. Right now I am thinking Colts-Cowboys or Colts-Green Bay for Super Bowl. But a Colts-Broncos in AFC game would be an instant classic and I could see that one being the most watched conference championship ever. It's those conference championships that can be more interesting to me than Super Bowl back when Cowboys-49ers were the two best teams in the early/mid-90s with AFC opponent just an afterthought.

What I want of course is Niners-Colts or Niners-Broncos (rematch) for Super Bowl after we take down Seattle in NFC game. Niners at way down at #8 seed so it's not looking good but there's plenty of football left in season. Many years the eventual Super Bowl winner has 1 loss, or no losses at this juncture in the regular season, not 5 losses.:( But the Niners had a 10-6 1988 season and went all the way so I never lose hope.

Yeah, they may let him resign instead of firing him, but either way I don't see Coughlin coaching the Giants next year.

I've heard rumblings that Harbaugh is a candidate for the job across the bay... anyone else?

There was a great talk show about openings and great places for coaching jobs. I heard that some year, maybe not now, he would be a great fit for Oakland. I think for starters he lives in the nice Oakland hills and has been seen at more than a few A's games. He's well known for his love of the Bay Area so why not? Along those lines of finding a coach, there was talk about when Brady retires he should coach Michigan. He's a legend there, too as well as Boston so that would be a great fit.

Back when my 49ers were wallowing in losing seasons there was always talk about Jimmy Johnson being sought for the coaching job. To me that would be a dream come true and I know he would be embraced by us'all.

Wow, I have to give it to the Raiders. It makes me think of the passing of the torch in the Bay Area once again. I think Niners had a bad day more than this spells the end of an era of postseason hopes. I am sure they are thrilled in Oakland and today was for the pride with no prospects of postseason for them this year.

If Seattle scores then it's all about them versus Arizona for NFC West crown with SF clearly out of it. All we had to do was beat the lowly (lowest ranked?) Raiders! Bad day today.

So. USC beat Oregon today.

Ha !

Now Seattle plays San Francisco again. This time at home.

I think this year it should be Seattle's to beat SF but you still have Arizona to catch up to for NFC West. I still think Arizona can be in Super Bowl and win it all. Patriots should handily beat San Diego and regain #1 AFC spot.

Seattle has already beat Arizona and San Francisco once.

Do it again and it's Seattle going to the Super Bowl ( again ) not Arizona.

The Niners are not a really strong team this year. If they miss the play-offs, it will probably be a net positive for next year's outlook (getting their weaknesses fixed), but it will be a due, deserved pine-ride.

But, hey, at least they managed to stuff Alex Smith's team. Kap has taken them to the big one, and lost by but a red whisker, Smith has yet to show he can do that.

that Rams defense is crushing it! 2 shut outs in a row(shutting out the raiders & redskins isn't too hard i know but still..) and the offense put up 76 points in those two games!

Kap is not the same player he ws two years ago. he changed right in the middle of the SB if you ask me.

Seattle has a chance and the depth. But right now in week #14 the Cardinals are still #1 in the NFC. While they don't have stars like Sherman and Wilson, they still get the win even though ugly. They remind me of teams like the Ravens or Bucs who can do it through team effort and simply win without putting up huge points or highlighting any given week with a blowout. If the Cardinals are to lose the NFC it's Green Bay who I see as best chance.

A lot of the doubters aren't used to seeing the guys from the Cardinals but I have a feeling that they will be putting out for a long time and the NFC West could potentially be crowded year after year for dominance at the top of the division. I originally thought it would be Seattle being up top every year all alone similar to the way the Broncos or Patriots are best bets for division lead.

Wow, what a shocker, SF losing to the lowly Raiders. The gnashing of teething in SF can be heard here in Boston

I think Seattle is really hitting their stride at the right time, and it will be hard for any team to beat them at this point.

Some of those teeth are mine!

Some here are saying it's the downfall of the team back to the losing season days again. Just after coming off of three World Series wins and currently experiencing a red hot Warriors basketball team with their longest winning streak ever, the Niners stand out even that much more, but for the wrong reasons.

We can never coordinate all our sports teams, like you guys in Boston (or New York in other seasons), to win in four sports (in reasonably short period of time). Heck, we can't even win in two sports! Our best chance recently was in 2012 when after coming off of a sweep of the Tigers in the World Series, San Francisco was gifted with seeing their football team lose in a Super Bowl they were heavily favored to win. And when there's noise about the San Jose Sharks actually becoming a candidate to finally win the Stanley Cup, it all just falls apart again and again.

All that being said, while SF Niners are probably out of the running even for wild card spot, I hold hope for our Warriors basketball team.

If Seattle gets back to their red zone wall they had in 2013, they will crush Green Bay or any other team coming their way. I see why they beat Denver and Aaron Rodgers can't be expected to do any better if Seattle gets up to their peak form on D.
