Yep, I saw the news story about the 49'ers parting company with Harbaugh and UoM folks meeting him today.

I'm a long-time 49er fan and watched many of Harbaugh's press conferences. All season long I saw a man who was not natural or forthcoming, who acted as if he had complete disdain for the task of having to stand there and answer questions. Harbaugh comes off as a petulant ass.

I think this is the primary reason for the split. Whatever differences may have existed with the front office, Harbaugh's personality pushed them to the breaking point. That's just my gut feeling from observing—what I consider—his dysfunctional personality

Isn't Gore a free agent? With a potent running game, they're going to be in a touch situation, even if they keep Gore, he's not getting any younger. RBs just don't wear well in the NFL.

I believe that Gore is a free agent, and I hope he stays another year.

Though about three years ago I was ready to jettison Gore, thinking his best days were behind him. I could not have been more wrong. He's the best thing about this team.

None of the remaining big 10 schools with the exception of perhaps Northwestern are on par with Michigan academically. Michigan is one of the top 5 most endowed schools in the whole country despite being a public school.

I wouldn't say Brady is a "god" in this state, but he's pretty universally liked. I've been a michigan football fan for a long time and it would be pretty awesome to see Brady eventually get a job there, but I somehow doubt that would happen. At least we're getting Harbaugh :D

Also, US news and world report rankings are completely useless. They rank things as a magazine, not based on academic stature, research etc.

Um ok. Never said they are completely on part but northwestern and wisconsin are no joke. If you don't believe that you don't understand R1 research. The us news was the first thing I found but that doesn't change the point that big 10 schools are highly respected as academic institutions

What. You've never seen a Bill Belichick news conference ? Or Brady cussing out his team mates ?

:D

So the Ravens coach is moving on?

umm, oops?

Man I hope so. Otherwise Michigan is hiring the wrong Harbaugh.

:p

That school would do better with either of them. SF Harbaugh has an amazing 4 year NFL win-loss record and Baltimore Harbaugh has a Super Bowl win.

I was really hoping Harbaugh for Raiders which would spice up the Bay Area some more (The amazing Golden State Warriors are current heroes right now in norcal playing well past what anybody expected) but KGO-SF mentioned that Harbaugh can always do well at Michigan and then come back and coach the Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders are obviously the one team in our area (Raiders, Niners, Warriors, Sharks, A's, Giants) that is not a contender and it's too bad they didn't get Harbaugh.

Quakes not close enough to be in the area..?

Yes, them too. I admit I haven't followed them or know if they have won anything. I also forgot to mention Sacramento Kings, too and they had a few years there where they looked like a contender.

That team is soo messed up and dysfunctional, I think many coaches are extremely wary of going to that franchise.

Which makes it all the better if you're able to turn it around. Of course if you're one of the top head coaches in the NFL or a newbie coach, you're not going to take the position for obvious reasons but take someone like a Rex Ryan who isn't great but isn't bad but has the experience and some success, what do you have to lose? You're not going to go because it's the Raiders? If you're looking for something easy, jump to College.

I think part of the Raiders problem is that every coach they have hired in the past few years is that none of them had a vision or plan. It's always been, yeah yeah, we're going to play hard and win. But none of them did anything to do that. What everyone is saying about the Raiders today could be said about the Rams pre-'99. Dick Vermeil had a plan (to build an offense) and drafted the players and hired coaches to help him do that.

I'll not disagree but I think the Raider's issues have not been limited to coaching, but higher up, so no coach would have been able to really help them. Just look at how they drafted this past year.

I think any vision or plan ultimately comes from the GM or the executives. A coach can certainly have something in mind, but ultimately the front office drives the vision and how a team will be. The more power a coach has at personal, the more of his idea of winning will be added, but I think for the Raiders all the power still sits with the GM and the owner. Both of which have not shown any acumen in turning that ship around.

You're right. That's why I think Oakland needs a coach that has the experience that the upper brass will respect and will take a step back and let the HC do everything. People hate on Jerry Jones but at the end of the day, he knows what he wants and has drafted well overall but never had a team that really gelled. You don't see that with the Raiders and I think it's time for them to get a HC to make all the football decisions.

********ing scumbag, this Donkeykong Suh. Pretty weak sauce from the NFL to back-peddle.

Go Cowboys.

Tell us how you really feel

Seriously, he's such a dirty player, and I can't see how he could have gotten away with stomping on Rodgers leg - he just got more cute with it that's all.

What's surprising is that Caldwell is permitting this sort of crap.

Raiola, banned for one game for essentially the same thing, before that going after Zach Moore of the patriot's knees. I mean he could have seriously injured a player doing that.

Supposedly, Suh told this during the appeal hearing:

Source: Suh said he had cold feet

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, during an appeal of his one-game suspension for twice stepping on Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, said his feet were numb from the cold, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

A source said Suh told appeals officer Ted Cottrell on Tuesday that he couldn't tell the difference between Rodgers' feet and the ground.

Fried bologna sandwich, as I am wont to say for this totally ridiculous bravo sierra excuse.
