We got past Pirates which I wasn't completely confident of but it's only one game and we won so it's onto Washington.

But we don't have Scutaro, Pagan, or Cain and that's a really huge minus. And Tim Lincecum, who had no-hitters this year and last year, is stuck in the bullpen and our reliable closer in Sergio Romo is the 8th inning guy. It's the least equipped we have been going into an NLDS but we have the confidence of having won it all in the previous two trips to the postseason.

Bumgarner isn't fazed by hostile postseason environments. He's pitched so many huge playoff games already, and he's still only 25.

Joe Panik is a more than capable replacement for Scutaro. Gregor Blanco is not a great replacement for Pagan. He's had his own post-season magic moments, but his bat is a liability when he has to start every day. I'd say Peavy has replaced Cain very well so far.

Romo has not been so reliable lately, hence his demotion to 8th inning duty. Casilla is more than capable in that closer role. But there are other glaring holes (Left field? Starting pitchers not named Bumgarner or Peavy?).

The Nats are loaded with talent up and down their roster. The Giants just know how to get it done in October and have dispatched many "superior" teams. I'm not very optimistic this time around, unless one or two more of the potential starting pitchers can step it up.

It's too bad we have to face what is probably the best team in the playoffs. They will have to choke while we play our best game and even then it will be hard to get past them. They scare me as much or more than the Dodgers.

Glad to see both the Angels and Dodgers lose! :D

Is it to much to ask the baseball gods, to see them both eliminated in the first round of the playoffs!!!!!?

I would add that the Giants also go crashing down.;) I'm pulling for the Nationals and the Orioles.

The Giants "stole" an important one on the road yesterday. A bit much to expect a repeat today with Zimmerman on such great form and Hudson… not so much.

The Dodgers losing with Kershaw on the mound is a huge setback.

Royals are a great story so far.

Angels choked or the Royals that good?
I think the Royals are good. The AL West for the most part was weak this year. KC has been in a dog fight with the Tigers all season.

I can see the ALCS going a full 7 games.

So what happened to the Tigers - I expected more of a fight from them.

So with the Dodgers out MLB has their worst nightmare on their hands. Teams most of the country could care less about. They better hope the ALCS is a 7 game nail bitter.

The Cards have one of the largest fan bases in the country. I don't think MLB is worried.

I wished NLCS was a Giants-LAD affair and I wanted to address some unfinished business. One day I would like to see Giants prevail over Kershaw in the postseason.

While I am a Giants fan, it's clear that over the last few years, we have had some drop in the level of performance of Cain and Lincecum and our ancient Barry Zito had his last good year in 2012 and part of 2013.

During that time the Dodgers have become a better team and they have a real Sandy Koufax type player in Kershaw. With a few other pitchers and their lineup, they are usually the better team and any questions pertaining to the rivalry would have best been answered in a Giants-LAD NCLS. Yes, we have the more recent WS championships but most consider LA to be the better team and maybe the most talented in the NL.

We are a good team in postseason and perhaps nobody has the ability to defy oddsmakers about postseason performance going 7 for 7 in postseason series, but it's no fun being perceived as the second best team in the NL West and usually behind LA. I hope we beat the Cardinals and we shouldn't consider them as any less of a threat than a LA because they don't have a Kershaw or Puig.

KC and Baltimore are fighting this out just like I had hoped for and 5-5 in bottom of 8th.

I hope this series goes to 7. For the AL side I like (admire) KC because they are the Cinderella team of the postseason but I also like Orioles because they earned the trip in a talented division. Whatever the AL does, though I don't closely follow, is a good year when the Yankees are not in the postseason.

Of course I want the Giants to sweep the Cardinals (not because it's easy because in postseason the Cardinals are as good as the Nationals were during the regular season)! An all orange WS would be a fun, and rare, thing.

UPDATE:

Unless something can stop the true Cinderella nature of the Royals there's no orange uniforms at least on the AL side now that they are up 2-0 headed to KC. If SF falls to Stl, then it's just yet another red-blue WS...snore.

So what is it about the media and all of you so called "fans" that hate a midwest Series? I mean, is it just haterade due to the fact for the better part of 10 years, the Central teams are consistently there, w/out all the big spending that the East and West coast have to do....? I guess I just don't understand. I am a Cards fan however...
