Packers confirm that Jordy Nelson is out for the season.:(

There was little doubt wasn't there. I mean now its official but by all reports his tore is ACL.

While I can't stand the Packers or their fans, this is a bad news for the team. Of course this is all done for selfish reasons, but now if the Packers lose any game or make it to the playoffs and lose, there will always be the excuse of "if we would have had Jordy, we would have won!" I can already hear my buddy saying this.

Agreed, there's been way too many devastating injuries occurring this preseason. I have to agree with Rodgers, they need perhaps one game to get ready for the season. I wonder if coaches will be more likely to keep their starters out of the preseason games more and more to avoid this risk
The counterargument to that (whether or not I agree) is that the first two preseason games are to evaluate the so called "Foot soldiers". In reality, most football teams are more than just superstars and a lot of the regular season talent is found in the preseason.

Tony Romo is the first example that jumps out at me, but there are a ton more.

Perhaps, but I think the reason for the preseason games is now more about money (both TV and stadium). There's other ways that you can evaluate the players and get them ready for the season.

I can argue about this until I'm blue in the face but the actuality is that nothing will change.

I'd less of the arm and more of the mouthpiece - I'm not being sarcastic. The amount of kissing up and pandering is absolutely pathetic.

I largely stop going to espn because of the lack of integrity and how they report things. How they handled the patriots stuff from video taping to the deflate gate is embarrassing.

I'm not wanting to get into the specifics of what the patriots did as much as ESPN completely made up facts. They completely lied continually about the Pats video taping the super bowl practices that occurred years ago. They finally apologized for that (at like 3:00am or something) and they reported that 11 of the 12 footballs were under-deflated - a figure that is has no basis of reality.

Tbh, overall I'm less excited about this NFL season because of how the league is run. Roger Goodell and and owners are ruining the game and its becoming less and less enjoyable to watch. Over the past few years, I've enjoyed college football a whole lot more and I this year I can see myself watching more college then NFL.
The NFL is in a tough spot. They have to take a dangerous game and try to keep the players safe. Fans want to see bone crushing hits and don't care that a player could be paralyzed or worse in 10 years.

Now for the off field issues. The players agreed to give Goodell all of the power in exchange for more money. They can't now say that the commissioner has too much power. The league was always run by the owners and that will never change.

Now college football is just as messed up as the NFL, players are taking the same hits the pros do with no compensation while the NCAA gets to play mob boss.

Nice analysis. If I was in charge I'd say **** the fans. Players produce the product that sells (and it sells no matter what). I feel that they should have the most benefits of anyone.

Considering how ESPN is essentially an arm of the NFL, I fully expect Carter to take a brief vacation.

He didn't insult Goodell, so my money is on no suspension or discipline whatsoever. The league and the four-letter network will just whitewash it, downplay it, and act like it barely happened.

I couldn't believe they (the players) agreed to the collective barging allowing Goodell the power to be judge, jury, executioner. No third party independent appeals process is ludicrous, and yet you are completely right, it was the fault of the players to agree to it.

Pre-season is a joke. THey don't need all those games to get ready, especially with some unknown looking to make a big hit on a star and maybe earn a roster spot. Not to mention forcing season ticket holders to buy tickets to these 'games'. College football has no pre-season and it works for them.

Agreed, the preseason games should just be for those guys looking to make the team. I would sit my starters and they would be regulated to drills and scrimmages during practice. With how much money is being paid to these guys, I would be protecting them at all costs.

That is some baloney that people have to buy the preseason tickets with their packages.

Hey everyone, many of you already know, but we've been running a couple of NFL Fantasy Football leagues here at MR for several years now. This year we've had a few of our veteran players have to drop out. So, I've got one spot in our Hardware League. We have a lot of fun chatting throughout the season in the dedicated league thread here on MR. If anyone would like to join us then click on the link for the thread below and let me know by posting in the thread.

ugh so tempted but I'm already in 3 fantasy leagues with money on the line and 3 survivor pools so the football season is already stressful enough for me

Our league is really easy and really fun, no money, just bragging rights. Plus you get the bonus of talking trash in an MR thread with your fellow league mates. I just need one more player to fill the last league. You know you wanna do it. :D

I'm in 8 pools. Jets fans need something to keep them interested later in the season.

Ugh. If a bad call in the Super Bowl wasn't enough.

Seems Seattle's newly very rich QB is a snake oil salesman now.

"I banged my head during the Packers game in the playoffs, and the next day I was fine," Wilson said. "It was the water."

Wow, what a dick.

I wish my team had a dick. I mean a dick who can play QB.

I'm skeptical of anyone who hears voices from "Jesus" in their heads telling them not to have sex with their beautiful girlfriend.

He is a weird bird but the man could play one of if not the toughest positions in sports very well, so I guess it doesn't matter

It looks like we are going to have a fully competitive season. Court is expected to exonerate Brady today or tomorrow so he could play with Patriots in first game. NFL owners pressuring Goodell to leave this alone and not appeal and pull Brady out later this season.

Let's just play football already and if Goodell has evidence we all don't know about and wants to dock Brady, then get his ring or fine him but don't hurt the entire 2015-16 Patriots team with what could be four early losses for an alleged wrong last season! Let's say Brady cheated, then does it make sense to possibly trash playoff hopes for upcoming Patriots team? Goodell needs to go!

Yup now the talk is Seattle getting him as back-up for Wilson.

And Fred Jackson from Buffalo appears headed to Seattle too.

That could help you guys, but certainly anything good for you is not for the 49ers. I think SF will be in rebuilding mode while you probably make it to another Super Bowl.
