ugh the NFL really screwed the pooch on this one. Its obvious that there was some tampering going on by Brady and the ballboys. But the NFL completely fumbled the investigation and had horrible evidence. Goodell is a great business man but absolutely horrible when it comes to other aspects of running the league

Once again the Patriots skate. This will really damage Goodell's power. Great job NFL. Now the Patriots know they can get away with murder.

"The Court is fully aware of the deference afforded to arbitral decisions, but, nevertheless, concludes that the Award should be vacated. The Award is premised upon several significant legal deficiencies, including (A) inadequate notice to Brady of both his potential discipline (fourgame suspension) and his alleged misconduct; (B) denial of the opportunity for Brady to examine one of two lead investigators, namely NFL Executive Vice President and General Counsel Jeff Pash; and (C) denial of equal access to investigative files, including witness interview notes."

So Kraft and the Pats initially accepted the penalty, Brady destroys his phone, two ballboys suspended and in witness protection and they skate. Now watch the NFL appeal it.

And I think I read that the NFL has already announced they plan to appeal. This will go on forever.

Was it ever determined why Brady destroyed his phone? Or did he really?

salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt. there is no evidence that brady did anything. you know why? because there was no tampering. salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt.

Brady said that it was for the simple reason that upgraded from an Android phone to an iPhone 6. But the question is why it even matters. The NFL investigators specifically told Brady that they would not need his phone.

Goodell screwed the pooch on this one. The four game suspension was ridiculous for a start. Not giving him any leeway to work things out with the League internally lead to the cause being tried in a federal court. Zero chance their paper thin evidence against Brady could hold up.

And here the NFL had a chance to give the Pats a bloody nose. Goodell screwed the pooch...a St Bernard.

All the NFL had to do when this all started was say that they can't be sure that the balls were purposely deflated when allowing for the affect of temperature on the pressure of the balls. Then they could promise to revamp their ball policies to ensure that this question didn't come up again.

Everybody wins. The pressure obviously had no impact on the game in question.

But instead they turn it into an 8 month circus that hurts the credibility of the NFL, one of their star franchises, and one of their most popular and marketable players. Goodell is awful at this part of his job.

I doubt the NFL would appeal. Imagine all the currently private documents on which this decision was based. All of those would need need to become public. All the interviews, all the notes, the meeting notes, the emails, etc. I don't think the NFL attorneys will think making all that stuff public is worth this appeal.

They shouldn't have moved on from Alex Smith, honestly.

A lot of us were wondering why when Alex was dropped, he had the highest numbers of any QB ever on several metrics. The guy simply didn't miss a pass but I think the 49ers banked on Kap's ability to pass and run. Smith didn't light up the board like Manning or Brees, but he simply played a conservative game and always won which is what this sport should be about. It shouldn't be about QBs trying to make 5,000 yards and have the most pass attempts. He may have had only 1700 yards in the year he left, but his consistent passing had him over 70% percent in completions which helped his great 104 QB rating.

Had we stayed with the consistency of Smith, we may have a Super Bowl ring.

Come on cut the delusion, its pretty obvious that some tampering went down, but the NFL's evidence or lack thereof was absolutely horrible. The way they set about to catch the wrongdoing and investigating was just asinine. So therefore Brady gets off.... Which is fine I mean the NFL didnt mount a strong case, but to say with such certainty that there was no tampering at all is just absolutely delusional.

The judge called the evidence and investigation baloney. All QBs are allowed to make the ball comfortable to their specs as long as it follows rules. NFL failed to show that according to judge. You have to prove Brady deflated balls below levels!

Essentially NFL failed to notify Brady in timely manner on suspension, didn't allow Brady's people to speak to investigators, and worst of all didn't let Brady's people see many documents/evidence in question.

My guess is that the NFL had squat and wanted to see how far they would get, but like you said the investigators had horrible evidence and the judge called the investigators on that one.

If we find out for sure Brady cheated, then take his ring and/or fine them but how is it fair to hamstring the entire Patriots team and most likely keep them out of the playoffs based on something that happened last season? How is it fair to deny many players now from getting a chance at a back to back championship? In essence, by suspending Brady this season for four games, it would potentially mean denying rings for an entire Patriots team this season. Given who they have, including Brady, the Pats can do their back to back (again) and who is Goodell to deny the team that chance?

All QBs are allowed to tamper or mess with the ball to a point, within limits. No going beyond the limit was proved.

The QB is not required to take the ball as is and play with it.

Brady likes them deflated some but Andrew Luck actually likes to add pressure.

he gave ALL THE phone records. the phone is irrelevant
Exactly.

There was nothing on the records and as we know now, and what I suspected if the tabloids then (pointing to Brady's infidelities and marriage problems) was now found to be mostly true and Brady didn't want possible info with other women used against him in what could be another high profile celebrity divorce.

Brady is a very handsome man, and like a huge mega sports star like a Tiger Woods, there's a lot of temptation on the road and apparently (again) in Lear Jets. I am not saying that cheating is a good thing, but guys, given the women and money Brady has access to all the time, year after year, would you remain faithful?

The tabloids inferred that Ben Affleck's ex-girlfriend hooked up with Tom Brady and this can be tied into phone. When Affleck says he's not involved with this woman, it may be (technically) true which led the same tabloids to say that she's with Brady now:

I also don't think it helped when Brady allegedly tried to explain this as playful and innocent and that Giselle Bundchen was also there. The allegation is that Brady may have gone to Vegas with Affleck and this girl who could have been only Affleck's nanny but Tom's mistress. Stranger things have happened if she happens to have been involved with one but is now with the other. Giselle wasn't around any of these incidents and divorce is imminent. Does anybody wonder why Brady trashed phone? This just doesn't look very good. He could be trying to protect marriage with Giselle, or at the very least protect Ben's marriage since the two men are said to be good friends. We may never know, but chances are it will all come out when nobody cares anymore.

Hindsight is 20/20. Someone screwed up not once, but TWICE with QB situation in San Fran. The first screw up was selecting Smith #1 overall instead of another QB who is considered the best in the business. The second was shipping out Smith.

have you heard of the ideal gas law? have you taken 10th grade chemistry? i don't think you have. FROM THE WELLS REPORT (which is complete ****) the PSI numbers of the 12 balls COMPLETELY TAKES INTO ACCOUNT the air pressure. AGAIN, do you have PROOF THAT THERE WAS TAMPERING? no, you do not.

you have the audacity to call people delusional when you want to accuse someone of cheating without any evidence? salt.

When Smith was let go, the SF analysts who were pro-Smith mentioned that in his shortened final year, he had a combination of highest percentage completed, least number of dropped passes (meaning Smith was probably right on), and fewest interceptions of any (among historical time period) quarterback in NFL history. Basically, Smith was the safest and most accurate passer, ever if taking just those metrics into consideration. It's not as if Smith was going downhill!

If they let Kap get #1, why not still keep the most accurate QB ever??

The judge called the evidence against Brady as baloney.

And without doubt, the judge was right that the procedures left out in the investigation were also bad. You have to get all your ducks lined up if you are going to win a case.

You need both proper evidence and proper procedure to prove a wrongdoing.
Neither was done. Sorry Jets fans.

But if you want to see Pats season spoiled, there's a small but unlikely chance that Goodell can appeal and that could end up making Brady miss later games which could have the same season ending effect on the team.

If you had a choice between Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers as your QB, whom would you choose? The Niners' had that choice in 2005. They chose Smith #1 overall. True that Smith won't lose you any games, but he can't carry a team like Rodgers.
