I think they were referring to the Red Bull teams who are currently both running Renault engines. I think it's safe to assume that Lotus will have the Renault engine if the buyout goes ahead as expected.

Meanwhile, it's been announced that Force India and Sauber are going to war with Bernie.

F1 teams lodge official EU complaint over 'unfair' structure

Don't expect to see any sign their cars on the TV coverage again this season after Ecclestone allegedly froze out Mercedes from the coverage of the last race because they had upset him by not offering to supply engines to Red Bull.

Well the entire structure is not only unfair, it's absurd. The economy of sport has changed but F1 hasn't. The rules and regulations need to be rewritten to allow for more fair competition and compensation. It's odd how only one team has a chance of winning yet they still call it a sport.

Would be nice to see teams like Force India, Williams, or Sauber make strides in the offseason and be able to compete for wins in 2016.

Agreed. It feels like customer teams are just a second class now. Not great for the sport, IMHO.

If reports are any indication the chassis is actually pretty good, it's the hybrid portion of the engine that's having problems. The electric motors can't keep up long enough to get them through a long straight so they're easily passed at the end.

not sure where you get that from.
from what i heard it is a poor chassis on a craptastic PU.
this year they wouldn't be competing for podiums even with a mercedes PU.

as far as everything else transpiring, the sooner Bernie retires, the better for everyone

I agree... time for Bern to hit the road. It's becoming more obvious every weekend.

McLaren's chassis was raved about at the beginning of the season. That's probably where it came from. They said it had a front end to rival Red Bull and a tightly packaged rear end to rival Mercedes. The PU is a nightmare because it lacks power, isn't reliable and is horribly inefficient. When you fail all 3, it doesn't matter what you do, you won't be competing for any podium. Since the PU is so bad, any chassis development for 2015 would have been halted unless it could be carried over to 2016. So while the chassis started out the season as an advanced piece of engineering, it has since fallen behind in terms of what they are racing with.

So looks like RBR are still not happy. Ferrari have said they will only be able to supply 2015 engines next year. So once again they are threatening to pull the plug.
Is it just me or shouldn't they just be let go if they are going to keep threatening to leave? It's like the kid who doesn't like a decision in a game saying well its my ball!
So a wet practise didn't tell us much in Russia. Lets see what today's qualifying brings.

didn't alonso himself say it was a GP2 engine?

No VAG brand is entering F1 with their current situation.
I think you might be right. I dread to think how much this will end up costing them in the end. Probably the equivalent of buying an F1 team.

Good to see Nico beat Lewis in qualifying fair and square. But it looks like the rest are racing for p3. Go bottas!

"GP2 engine ARRRGGGHHH".. that was fantastic. It's a bad engine compared to the rivals. I'll be shocked (but pleasantly surprised) if Honda has an engine to battle Ferrari and Mercedes next year.

Nice to see Nico snag back to back poles though.

Yessiree, VW is going to be spending a lot of dough to try and get out of the fix it's in. Some may/may not be coming my way as I'm the "proud" owner of a 2012 JSW TDi...it was a clean diesel now it's a "cleanish" diesel. Maybe I'm mistaken but VW has always seemed to be an "enthusiast" brand. Owners really love their cars whether it be for the fuel economy or the performance or both. The VW forums I frequent, the owners are a bit po'd. They like the way their cars are performing now and any fix that degrades the fuel economy or performance will not be met kindly. Right now the resale value of our cars has dropped like a stone...kind of like VW's stock/value. Have to wait and see how this plays out but VW had better shelve any plans to drop a bundle on F1.

So my prediction is Lewis does Nico at the start and Vettel does Bottas at the pit stop.
Hopefully we get to see some tussles throughout the field. A couple of drivers are out of position, so should be interesting in the midfield.

So that was an anti climax. Lap 10 and Lewis is already in fuel saving mode even though we've had s SC!
The only guy that could beat him today is back in the garage.
Vettel will be allowed to pass Kimi at some point.
Looks like another SC!

Well the last few laps were pretty entertaining. Unlike Kimi to make a mistake like that.
Well done Force India. Those tyres might have been shot, but Perez was still able to capitalise on the crash.

Yep, I live nearby and a buddy of mine's wife bought him tickets. No idea what to expect, but i look forward to it!

I did make sure to stop by COTA when I was in Austin in May. They were setting up for the X Games so I couldn't get too close but I did see the stands and turn 1.

And we've got the WCC wrapped up. I'm sick of this formula.
