0-11 with RISP for the Dodgers. If any of the other playoff teams had 11 at bats with RISP, they would have capitalized at least 3 of those at bats for runs. That was simply the Dodgers beating themselves. Now to support the Cubs and see if Back to the Future was right (for real though, Cubs and KC would be very interesting).

So what did we learn from last nights game. The Yankees are not dead yet. And the Mets don't have a chance once Harvey is out of the game.

So what did we learn from tonights game - Answer: The Mets are going to the NLCS !!! U thought i was going to let that one slide huh? eat your words.

You seem pretty quiet all of a sudden.
Well, his signature is only "silence" in spanish. LOL. But really, the Dodgers beat themselves in this game. You can't tell me that DeGrom looked like his Game 1 self in this one. Still, the Mets capitalized where the Dodgers couldn't. Best of luck in the NLCS.

Meh, I don't care. The Yankees are not relevant anymore why bring it up. The Dodgers wasted a lot of at bats tonight. Good pitching beats bad hitting.

Now the Cubs are on fire, I wonder how the Mets pitching holds up.

I didn't realize how bad other teams had it. I think over many years I was wallowing in my own bad luck with the SF Giants and their long, long drought (1950s-2009) with inability to get it done with Mays at first, a long 1960s watching Dodgers be the stars, having hope with Speier in the 70s and the Pacific Sock Exchange in the 80s, Barry Bonds in the 90s and 2000s.

Then we had all this pitching that seemed to just get lost in the 2000s. I can't think of too many teams that had over 50 years of that type of talent coming up empty handed. The recent Giants kind of made up for all that bad luck in the past.

I know your issue since before we finally won one in San Francisco we had tons of great pitchers (Blue, Johnson, the Freak, Cain, etc) and it looked like we would never win the big one. But with Atlanta, while your pitching was great (and arguably the strongest rotation in the history of baseball), you still had that one World Series win. From 1958 through 2009, we had zero championships. That is a huge difference. Sure everybody thought you would take two or more World Series with those guys pitching, but you put it all together and got through the NL and conquered the AL champ.

While we were in that 52 year San Francisco drought, we had to watch division neighbor Arizona win, watch chief rivals LA win all over the place, see fellow Californians Angels beat us, Bay Area neighbors A's beat us, see a Canadian team go back to back, and see a new team like two time wild card team like the Marlins convert those into World Series trophies. I think it could have been the most difficult drought in semi-recent baseball history next to the Red Sox, White Sox, and Cubs droughts of 85 years, 87 years, and over 100 years (and counting), respectively.

I think while SF's 3 recent championships is more than enough, we still have not won the series in our own backyard nor have we gone back to back so those will always be goals we want to reach that other teams have already achieved.

Is it really his fault that the front office over paid for a bunch of aging stars?
Old front office. Other than Brandon McCarthy (remember him?), the signings and contracts have been dirt cheap. The old management brought in Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzales (Crawford's contract is worth two for his production), signed Kemp and Ethier to huge (and overpriced) contracts, signed Kershaw and Grienke to huge (with early player opt out) contracts and signed a bunch of retread closers who have disappeared since being released (Chris Perez, Brandon League, Brian Wilson).

This year's team had to replace 2 starters (McCarthy and Ryu), gave millions away so that teams can take Dee Gordon ... I mean ... Dan Haren, and Matt Kemp, bought draft picks from Miami and Baltimore, took on worthless contracts (Michael Morse, Bronson Arroyo, some will say Matt Latos) and DFA'd a bunch of relievers and starters during the start of the season. When you add all that up, you begin to realize how $200 million was pretty much wasted away.

But it's Mattingly's fault ... Lol

You went through a lot, but coming up next year it won't be a stretch to predict you win the NL West and get into the playoffs again. Arizona and Colorado have no chance. San Diego has Shields which is good but he's just one guy, and SF probably can't rely on Lincecum and Cain anymore. You didn't get to NLCS this year but you still have a future ahead of you unlike any other team in the NL West division.

It would be smart to keep Mattingly.

You know, I'm starting to see the Dodgers the same way. For as much as Bobby Cox is a true HoF manager, people will still hate on him for not winning more World Series titles. Dodger fans are now in that seat with Mattingly. Granted the Divisional title meant much much more pre-Wild Card era than now, it's still something to appear in the postseason as something other than a wild card three times in a row. Yet people in LA are so ready to have Don packed for Miami.

Matters are worse considering the Giants have won 3 in fast succession. The Dodgers have never won 3 titles in the same decade, much less in 5 years time. So now you have fans who want instant wins. Personally, I doubt even a manager like Maddon can keep this team focused enough. It's much easier to win when you have young talented kids working on a secured long term contracts, than a bunch of All Stars who already are getting their pay.

Don't get impatient and make the huge mistake we did in San Francisco with the 49ers. We had a coach who brought us to three straight postseason seasons and we let him go. The pressure on Jim Harbaugh was to win the big one but San Francisco fans forgot just how hapless the team was before him. Now that he's gone because we weren't happy with no Super Bowls, so are the team's hopes for postseason and we are back to being terrible in the pre-Jim Harbaugh era.

For us in San Francisco, we want to you release Mattignly, but as long as you have him it will possibly be that the Giants never take the NL West. While it was great to win the World Series, but maybe not as exciting as the first time in 2010, it was still hard to lose the NL West to the Dodgers.

On the individual level, we had a once in a lifetime pitcher with Tim Lincecum and his two Cy Youngs, but you had to get Clayton Kershaw who got three of them. We were hoping that this year would be one where Madison Bumgarner could get a Cy Young, especially after the low ERA he had in 2014's postseason being a launching point, but then you put up Zack Greinke and his ridiculous ERA which will give him the award for 2015.

This exactly! LA fans have been so spoiled with the Lakers, and recently the Kings, that they've lost value in what it means to get into the postseason. All I know is, this postseason will be huge for LA. Do they keep Mattingly? Do they pay through the nose for Grienke? Does Justin Turner stay as the third baseman?

I use to know more about the Giants farm. I would go watch the Fresno Grizzlies year after year. Seems like much of the 2014 Grizzlies team is either traded away or with the big club. Pretty sure you guys have some starters coming up. It'll be interesting to see what the Giants piece together this offseason, with the team coming back healthy for next year.

What did we learn? If you're going to play the shift, be a little quicker getting back to your positions if there was a guy on 1st and the batter walked. That pretty much won the game for the Mets.

So happy to see this team win the series. Bring on the Cubs!

I think we will end the dynasty and fall into rebuilding for the next few years.

We were first in line for Tanaka and Lester, and maybe second in consideration for Shields and we got none of them. We knew Lincecum was done for as a starting pitcher and franchise player and were thinking Cain had at best two years left in his arm. I don't think we will have any world class closers in next few years. We lost Pablo Sandoval and have suffered injuries with some of our key hitters. My prediction for next year is to be in the 70s on the W side and not even reach .500.

It would take a miracle for somebody to come up from the farm to save us at this point. Baseball is always about the present with an eye towards the next two years at most and things are not looking good for the Giants. Hindsight is 20/20 and we should have unloaded some former high paid starts and got at least one prime time pitcher to go along with Madbum.

glad they did. keep doing it. and they don't manage their pitching staff for ****.

but none of that matters to me.

i hate the dodgers. he can win a WS with anyone but them... or the yankees. ;)

just read this again... you realize that:

A. I didn't make the original comment about aging stars.

B. i am a San Francisco Giants fan.

C. I hate the dodgers and don't really give a **** about them, who they sing or how old they are, or mattingly either, right? nor did i blame him for anything. That's why he can win a WS anywhere but there cos i hate them.

i don't think this post season is going to be a pitchers post season like last years was.

i think the hitters are going to be the big story.

For the Cubs, and Arrieta's, sake I hope I'm wrong...

I think you're right, at least for the AL. With the exception of last night, Royals/Jays pitchers are good for at least 3-4 runs but that's nothing when you're looking at the type of offense both teams have where 3-4 can be easily overcome.
