So it's the pitching coaches fault that the GM brought in crap pitchers? The Red Sox dumpster fire is going to spread to the front office soon.

the Mets called up Noah 'Thor' Syndergaard to pitch against the Cubs on monday...this is getting interesting

It took 21 games, but Kris Bryant finally hit his first home run of the season. Not that it matters, as he has been spectacular this season.

Mets update:: good news, david wright and travis d'arnaud will be back on monday from injury, finally getting some reinforcements. bobby parnell is already in re-hab mode, could be back mid-season...its mid-May and the Mets are holding up ;)

... here we come...?

Giants win plus Padres loss has put us in second place in the NL West after having recently been in last place.

While it's never fun to be behind somebody in division, especially the perennially hot LAD, we didn't do so bad last year going into playoffs as the #2 NL West team wildcard.

So we did well with nabbing Aoki and McGehee and our standard Pence is back online and this could make up for the absence of Sandoval and Morse. We are still mediocre as a team and can't do it without Cain who can add the push we need late in the season after July.

agreed. how do we do it without absolutely no power hitters though? i don't wanna mess with the formula but man would i love having someone who could hammer the ball 30-40 times a year.

The Mets had a power surge last night, including the pitcher going 3 for 3 with an RBI. EVERY starter last night got a hit and scored a run, they batted around between outs being recorded in the 4th.

Syndergaard makes his Citi Field debut this afternoon, hopefully they saved some runs for him.

I was looking at the standings - the ASTROS are 4.5 up in their division? Nobody saw THAT coming...

Holy cow the Rockies have beaten the Dodgers two times in a row in LA!

I guess even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

That is a great thing. LA overall has been so hot this year and in previous years so they do need to lose at home to keep things honest.

one of the pinheads on the MLB network did. He was a year off though. near the end of last season he said they were a season away from being a dominant force.

"something something young talented players...something something Astros in 2016..." - pinhead/MLBnetwork. true story.

so i'm not too surprised. ;)

This season let's win the division. Yes we won the WS but it still bugs me we didn't win NL west. I guess I don't like Dodgers.

I can honestly say we worked harder than others and had more spirit to win 3 WS but I have to admit overall, day in and day out, the Dodgers were better than us last year on every level. This year we have the jump on them but even then we will have to take the division if only that.

he he he i'm in!

yeah, WS means so much more but it feels like something is missing when you don't win your division.

Seriously though, all i ask for is to finish .500 or better. anything after that is icing on the cake.

We (Giants) are catching up but like many years, and this year is no different, LAD is crazy good. I hope Atl takes tonight.

We may have to do some stealing of personnel one year. Getting Baker as coach some years back and bringing the Giants pride back to SF was a big coup. We got our confidence back in those years and never looked back.

not only can 'Thor' pitch but he can swing a bat like he swings his hammer...goMets!

I'm surprised I didn't have people knocking on (or down) my door at work when I saw that happen on MLB GameDay yesterday. That was not a cheap HR either, he put a great swing on it and went to one of the deepest part of the park.

yea.

those were good moves until bonds proved everyone right, i.e. he was/is an *******.

when he first hit the bigs folks in Pitt loved him. by the time he left they hated him and were glad he was gone.

baker, who i love, is a nimrod of a manager.

belt, for now, is hitting HR's ... pence is back, pagan is on form, aoki too... if matt cain and peavey(who i strongly dislike) come back in good form... who knows?

Belt comes up big for us in tight games but Pence and Pagan have to hit in both big and small games.

Cain has to look like his former self and Peavy has to at least be a regular season player.

Peavy (Cy Young year before Lincecum) and Cain (perfect game) in old days were perennial Cy Young talk but they are probably past their prime. Linceum is doing well right now but I only hope for 4.00 ERA but even that would be good. He's not the starting pitcher we once knew but could still be the best mid-inning reliever in the game.

We have what it takes to make postseason again (probably a #4 NL power ranked team who will command no respect nor strike any fear), but will have to rely on another postseason type of miracle to get past the likely teams of the Mets and Nationals, Cardinals and Royals.

I think what makes a mediocre level postseason team like the Giants have been in recent years to a WS champion is Boche. As long as we have a level headed boss like him there's always a chance to go all the way. But we will have to have at least two players who are hitting .300+ in the postseason and get an Ishikawa like contribution in a big game from non-prime time players (Ishikawa, Maxwell, Duffy, etc). I will expect Crawford, Belt, Posey, Pence, Pagan, and Aoki to be close to .300 to make this all happen. September is a long ways off though and baseball is the least forgiving sport in professional sports when it comes to injuries affecting play.

You can come in taped up and hobbling in the NFL and get the adrenaline or luck to help win a big game, but never do so in the MLB in several series of games in the postseason. We still don't have a lights out Kershaw or strong hitting ARod type of name of big stars but as a team working together we have a dynasty.

In 2010, SF came in as three time WS losers and without Barry Bonds, and in 2012 with Timmy kicked off of rotation and no sign of resurgence of our franchise player, and 2014 with no Pagan or Scutaro and Romo off closer duties. But this year the negatives of having lost Sandoval and losing out on Shields and Lester made many write us off again. This was all in context of everyone knowing that the Dodgers would likely rule the division behind Kershaw in 2015.

Really, it was Roger Craig who brought the swagger back to SF after near two decades of irrelevance in the 70s and 80s. Dusty was the first base coach and hitting coach under Craig. Bake did a decent job, but had a few maddening lapses in crucial situations that tarnished his legacy (Salomon Torres in Game #162 in 1993? Game 6 of the 2002 World Series?). Just makes me all the more grateful we have Bruce Bochy, who always seems to be prepared when the chips are down, knows his personnel and puts them in positions to succeed.

Regular season baseball and postseason baseball are two different beasts. Since 2010, the Giants have been reasonably good at the former, and unbelievably good at the latter. In October, it's all about doing the little things, minimizing mistakes, and getting the most out of the bullpen. The Giants clearly excel at all of those things.

We're finally seeing the Brandon Belt I expected was there all along. He's no J.R. Phillips, folks. Just avoid those flukey injuries that derailed him last season.

Chris Heston may not let Peavy have his job back.

Bumgarner has sufficiently proven he's a better "big game" pitcher than Kershaw.

The Nationals lost Werth for the better part of 2-3 months. 2 fractures in his wrist after a HBP. He's one of their sluggers and a good all-around player. I'm not saying his absence will ruin any chances for the post-season but it could make a run difficult for them. If the Mets keep it up, they could be back in 1st over the Nats and have the Nats fighting for a WC spot.
