yea.
those were good moves until bonds proved everyone right, i.e. he was/is an *******.
when he first hit the bigs folks in Pitt loved him. by the time he left they hated him and were glad he was gone.
baker, who i love, is a nimrod of a manager.
belt, for now, is hitting HR's ... pence is back, pagan is on form, aoki too... if matt cain and peavey(who i strongly dislike) come back in good form... who knows?
Belt comes up big for us in tight games but Pence and Pagan have to hit in both big and small games.
Cain has to look like his former self and Peavy has to at least be a regular season player.
Peavy (Cy Young year before Lincecum) and Cain (perfect game) in old days were perennial Cy Young talk but they are probably past their prime. Linceum is doing well right now but I only hope for 4.00 ERA but even that would be good. He's not the starting pitcher we once knew but could still be the best mid-inning reliever in the game.
We have what it takes to make postseason again
(probably a #4 NL power ranked team who will command no respect nor strike any fear), but will have to rely on another postseason type of miracle to get past the likely teams of the Mets and Nationals, Cardinals and Royals.
I think what makes a mediocre level postseason team like the Giants have been in recent years to a WS champion is Boche. As long as we have a level headed boss like him there's always a chance to go all the way. But we will have to have at least two players who are hitting .300+ in the postseason and get an Ishikawa like contribution in a big game from non-prime time players (Ishikawa, Maxwell, Duffy, etc). I will expect Crawford, Belt, Posey, Pence, Pagan, and Aoki to be close to .300 to make this all happen. September is a long ways off though and baseball is the least forgiving sport in professional sports when it comes to injuries affecting play.
You can come in taped up and hobbling in the NFL and get the adrenaline or luck to help win a big game, but never do so in the MLB in several series of games in the postseason. We still don't have a lights out Kershaw or strong hitting ARod type of name of big stars but as a team working together we have a dynasty.
In 2010, SF came in as three time WS losers and without Barry Bonds, and in 2012 with Timmy kicked off of rotation and no sign of resurgence of our franchise player, and 2014 with no Pagan or Scutaro and Romo off closer duties. But this year the negatives of having lost Sandoval and losing out on Shields and Lester made many write us off again. This was all in context of everyone knowing that the Dodgers would likely rule the division behind Kershaw in 2015.
